Bridging Disciplines Programs allow you to create an interdisciplinary concentration that integrates area requirements, electives, courses for your major, internships, and research. The Social Entrepreneurship & Non-profits BDP brings together students who are interested in pursuing a career in the public service sector and expanding their involvement in the community. Non-profit leaders for the 21st century must increasingly understand the blurring of lines among private, government, and non-profit sectors. The Social Entrepreneurship & Non-profits BDP is overseen by a panel of faculty members from across campus. Members include Pat Stout (Advertising), Andrée Bober (Fine Arts), Sharon Brown (Assoc. Vice-President for Research), Rowena Fong (Social Work), Michael Granof (Accounting), Elizabeth Hedrick (English), Kurt Heinzelman (English), Sarah Jane Rehnborg (LBJ), and Cal Streeter (Social Work). Upon completion of 19 hours, you will earn a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship & Non-profits. This essay is your opportunity to draw connections among your interdisciplinary BDP coursework, your connecting experiences, and your major. For additional guidelines, see your BDP advisor. In addition to the 9 hours of foundation courses, students must take 3-6 hours of courses focused on a particular content area. Students have the option of choosing courses from one of the sample strands or developing their own strand in consultation with the BDP advisor and the faculty panel. The Social Entrepreneurship & Non-profits BDP brings together students who are interested in pursuing a career in the public service sector and expanding their involvement in the community. In courses taken for a letter grade, the student must obtain a grade of C or better to meet BDP certificate requirements. Only one BDP course may be taken pass/fail. Any exceptions will be considered by the faculty panel on an individual basis.
