Compensation Board Employee Can't Collect ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) A man who was injured while go- ing to take a civil service pro- motion examination has been barred from workmen's com- pensation for the injury. The New York Workmen's Compensation Board received court approval Tuesday to deny compensation to Anthony V. Costa of Troy, a board employe. The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court ruled unanimously in favor of the board, which had appealed its own decision that Costa's acci- dent was work-related. Costa fell on a sidewalk in December 1964 as he went to take the promotion examination on the urging of his superior. The board earlier had agreed that the injury was work-relat- ed, partly because of the super- ior's recommendation. Later the board the the State Insurance Fund appealed, say- ing Costa was injured in person- al activity. Costa lives at 22 Valley View Drive. Ruth Barber, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wood, Morse Ames, Grace Gasser, Helen Kampney, Bill Spencer Dottie Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Krebs, Lawrence Alcott, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Randal, Mr. and Mrs. Layton Webster and Mrs. Grace Downing. The picture is now a modern craft and today is a form of work in which pieces of veneers are cut and shaped, to be assembled into a preconceived picture and af- fixed to a solid base with the colors, grains and natural markings of veneers used to their best advantages. To use a broad comparison, it is assembled in such a manner, as a jigsaw puzzle would be assembled. Don McDonald, a Syracusan, came upon the marquetry works of a French artist named F. Spindler that was having his works exhibited in Syracuse. This interested him and through books and the encouragement of his wife, Biruta, who is the artist in the McDonald household, he took up this hobby and has been working at it over the last ten years. The subjects are usually obtained from photographs out of books, paintings and sketches that his wife will draw for him and he will then transfer to wood and work his picture. Mr. McDonald is terminal manager of the Interstate System in Syracuse and resides with his wife and two children on Oakdale Drive. He and Mrs. McDonald have displayed their works at the Cortland Art League Park Art Festivals and they anticipate participating in the upcoming show in June of this year. -Outside Collector- Midland Time Plan Dep't.
