What is the SoCal Tech Group?

• STG is a network of technology expertscentered in Southern California, dedicated

to making SoCal fertile ground for

technology startups

• The group operates without membership

dues, but rather is self-funded by providing

a number of services to the venture

community



Why SoCal?

• Southern California graduates a hugeamount of technical talent from localuniversities: UCLA, USC, UCSD, UCI, UCR,Cal Poly, Cal Tech…

• The Los Angeles area in particular has alarge amount of both financial and creativecapital…

• But there has not been a rich,entrepreneurial, networking culture thatties the two together





Who is STG?• A bank of on-demand experts who work full time

at Google, Yahoo!, Symantec, and other high-profiletechnology companies, as well as thought leadersin both academia and in industry

• Over 75% of members have at least a Master’s inScience or Engineering

• Many are also startup veterans and companyfounders

• Our group knows tech because we are theengineers and scientists who design it, deploy it anduse it




How We Recruit• By performing consulting and diligence tasks for

startups and VCs, STG members gain earlyaccess to local startups and face-time withventure capital

• STG grows virally using a special incentive structurethat encourages teamwork, recruiting and thepooling of information

• STG members know that the time they donate will

ultimately provide benefits for the whole group
