A Guided Walkthrough of the Design and Development Process
You Want A Website…
Welcome to the Guided Walkthrough of the Design and Development Process of making and maintaining a website.
Together we’ll go through the steps from concept to completion!
The Process: In Brief

There are six basic steps to having an online presence.
Each is as important as the ones before and after, and they work in conjunction to make the process
smooth and effective.
Step 1: Learn
You may or may not know what you want yet, but this is the part where we work together to figure it out.
• What I Do: Learn what you need in terms of functionality and site requirements
• What You Do: Sit down and go over the New Website Questions and prepare for the Creative Brief.
Step 2: Plan
This is where we take what we have learned and put it together into a cohesive plan. We’ll create a timeline based on your needs and put together a comprehensive, step-by-step
agreement to work from.
• What I Do: Put together the Creative Brief, Contract and Timeline of Events.
• What You Do: Sign the Contract, and approve the Creative Brief and Timeline.
Step 3: Design
All the planning is done and now it’s time for the real work to begin! Taking your preferences and requirements into account, we turn your brainchild
into a tangible image of a website. You’ll also be able to see a visual mapping of your website pages in the Information Architecture. After all,
what you put into the site as content is just as important as how it all looks!
• What I Do: Create a Design Mock-up and Information Architecture for your review and approval.
• What You Do: Review and approve the designs, and make changes as needed.
Step 4: Code
This is where a developer really gets their hands dirty! Coding and development start as soon as the designs are approved. This is the step that typically requires the least
amount of interaction and input on your part. It’s where you take it easy!
• What I Do: Program a lot of lines of code, and turn the picture we drew in the last step into a real, live website!
• What You Do: Sit back and relax! Also, work on any additional content for your website.
Step 5: Launch
Launching the site is more than just turning on the domain name. It’s about testing before and after the site goes live to
the internet and making sure you have a pretty, polished product to show for all our efforts!
• What I Do: Go through the 35 Step List for Launch and make sure everything is just the way it ought to be.
• What You Do: Review the site and test all the pages, forms, etc. to make sure it works the way you want it to.
Step 6: Maintain
Once your site is live, it’s important to make sure you are staying on top of the upkeep! Regular backups, Search Engine
Optimization, and maintenance updates are important to keeping your site running smoothly and at it’s best!
• What I Do: Babysit the site, run regular, scheduled backups, provide SEO ideas or changes, make sure your site stays secure and up to date.
• What You Do: Relax, knowing that your brainchild is in good hands. Provide regular content updates.
