description

The Season for Nonviolence is celebrated each year from January 30, 2015 in cities across the globe. The annual 64 day campaign, co-founded in 1998 by Dr. Arun Gandhi and The Association for Global New Thought (AGNT), is an educational, media and grassroots awareness campaign spanning the January 30th and April 4th memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The purpose of the campaign is to focus educational and media attention on the philosophy of attaining peace through nonviolent action as demonstrated by legendary leaders Mohandas K. Gandhi, Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr., Cesar E. Chavez, and President Nelson Mandela, as well as living legends such as His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet. Spiritually guided citizen leaders in 900 cities in 67 countries have participated since the campaign began in 1998.

As a human family we are asking the question: “How can any act of violence be rec-ognized as a solution to the consequences of violence that we face today?” Violent actions and reactions are the scars of social, educational, and economic wounds... the voices of a spiritually inarticulate culture.

The practice of nonviolence is initiated by choice and cultivated through agree-ment. The time has come to agree upon this as a global community as if our lives, and those of our children’s children, depended on it. Our vision is of a better world for all human beings.

The Gandhi King Gyatso Season for Nonviolence is an international grassroots campaign growing out of the passion and creative expression of many spiritual and civic-minded individuals and communities. Our vision is to promote a proac-tive, life enhancing awareness of nonviolent activism as demonstrated by Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, and Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet.

The Season for Nonviolence is celebrated each year between January 30th and April 4th, marking the memorial anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is energized by spiritually-motivated citizen leaders and volun-teers in over 900 cities in 67 countries since inception.

Co-founded in 1998 by the Association for Global New Thought, and Arun and Sunanda Gandhi, the campaign is convened and directed by the Association for Global New Thought.

Our purpose is to create an awareness of nonviolent principles and practice as a powerful way to heal, transform and empower our lives and communities. Through an educational and community action campaign, we honor those who use nonviolence to build a community that honors the dignity and worth of every hu-man being. By identifying “what works” in these new models for reconciliation and human harmony, we are demonstrating that every person can move the world in the direction of peace through his or her daily nonviolent choice and action.

• ROCHESTER, NYAgents of Change WorkshopThis is a pivotal point in our civilization. But what if it turned out that the anger, rage, conflict and oppositional forces driving our crises contained within them the energy, creativity and will to solve all the problems? What if we already had, each of us and all of us, those resources - the capacities necessary to make humanity a blessing to the Earth in the midst of, and made from, the seeming curse of humanity's destructive power on Earth, its re-sources, its environment, and all living beings. Join us for a workshop where we explore these questions. Location: Gandhi Institute, Gandhi House, 929 S. Season  for  Nonviolence  January  30    April  4,  2015

By  Audri  Scott  Williams

The  Awakening  the  Heart  of  the  Beloved  Community  grassroots  movement  stands  at  the  intersection  of  global  social  justice  and  spiritual  transformation.  We  began  this  year s  season  for  Season  for  Nonviolence  with  a  pre-‐event,  joining  the  walk  to  celebrate  the  life  and  legacy  of  Dr.  Martin  Luther  King,  Jr.,  in  Dothan,  Alabama  on  January  19th.  This  initiated  our  Season  for  Nonviolence  activities  in  celebration  of   The  Beloved  Community .

On  February  21st,  Audri  Scott  Williams  was  a  member  of  a  panel  discussion  sponsored  by  Troy  University  on  Race  Relations  in  Dothan,  Alabama.  Audri  concluded  her  remarks  with  the  question:   When  your  grandchildren  ask  you,  what  did  you  do  to  create  a  sustainable  future  that  works  for  all,  let  us  be  able  to  reply we  remembered  that  none  of  us  are  free  until  all  of  us  are  free.  This  inspired  us  to  listen  to  each  other s  stories  with  open  hearts;  to  learn  each  other s  language.  We  stopped  assuming  and  as  we  did,  the  fears  that  kept  us  divided  for  so  long  dissolved  and  our  vision  cleared.  We  came  to  know  that  our   humanness  is  reflected  in  our  humanity.  The  circle  now  complete  is  our  gift  to  you.

Following the October 2014 success of the 1st Awakened World In-ternational Film Festival we learned the power of film to inform and inspire, witnessing how audiences were moved in their whole being, and how this led to exciting dialogue and commitments to action. If this can happen in an audience of viewers who then "go home" to places around the nation, think of how a community viewing might bring people together with the opportunity to keep them connected for sustainable good. We selected two films from the Awakened World Film Festival, each to serve as a centerpiece for dialogue and workshops that inspire enlight-en action. "Under the Same Sun" and "Admissions" both address the is-sues of the possibility of building peace in highly conflicted situations.

We added an additional film "#ChicagoGirl"a documentary which examines the power of media, how the Internet is influencing a revolu-tion and why a camera can be more effective than an AK-47.
