The first Sheridan County Snowpack Report of 2013 shows below normal snowpack for this date despite the addition
of the snows of the last week. The manual snow course data included in this report does not include the snow of the
last 48 hours, and pulls down the overall snowpack averages slightly. Todays Snotel data show on average the
Tongue River Basin is at 83% of normal and the Powder River is just below normal at 96%. These averages are up
14% and 10%, respectively, over the readings from the beginning of this week. Total Precipitation at the Tongue
River drainage Snotel sites is below average at 76%; while total precipitation at the Powder River drainage sites is
98% of average. Manual snow course data included in this report was collected January 25th
through 30th
and Snotel
data in this report is current data as of today, February 1st.
Todays Snotel data from the other major basins in Wyoming report most of the northern and western basins near butslightly below normal. Snows in the past week have improved snowpack Statewide, though the southeast and eastern
border basins of the State are below normal. The southeast basins are well below normal; the highest of which is the
Upper North Platte at 74%, while the Lower North Platte is very low at only 28% of normal, the lowest in the Statetoday.
Snotel data collectors are permanent, remote sites that transmit real-time snow water content and precipitation data
through a west-wide computer network. Daily data from these sites, as well as other water supply-related reports and
products can be accessed through the Waterlink on the Wyoming NRCS Homepage atwww.wy.nrcs.usda.gov.
