Snow forecast - Sunday 24 March 2013
It’s another cool and unsettled week in prospect for the Alps with further
snow at times (though not generally in huge quantities).
Detailed forecast:
Austria
Monday will be cold and mostly cloudy with the chance of snow flurries (to low
levels) almost anywhere. It will become colder still on Tuesday with snow
flurries becoming more widespread for a time.
Wednesday will remain cold, but any snow flurries will become lighter and
more scattered again with some sunny spells appearing, especially in the
north. Thursday should be mostly dry with good sunny spells and milder
temperatures.
France
Monday will be mostly cloudy with a few mostly light flurries (1000m) here and
there. The best of any brightness will be in the southern Alps. Tuesday and
Wednesday will be a little colder still with the odd flurry in the northern Alps
(800m). The southern Alps should be fine with some sunshine.
Thursday may see more persistent snow return to the French Alps, especially
the south.

Italy
Monday will be mostly cloudy with a few snow flurries, particularly in the east.
The best of any brightness will be further west. Tuesday will see snow
showers (900m) become more widespread across the eastern Italian Alps.
Showers will be more scattered further west.
On Wednesday any snow flurries should become light again with the best of
any brightness in the west. On Thursday the situation will be reversed with
snow showers likely in the west and the driest, brightest weather further
east.
Switzerland
Monday will be mostly cloudy with a few light snow flurries (600-900m) here
and there. It will become a little colder on Tuesday with more widespread
snow showers (600m) for a time.
The odd snow flurry is still possible on Wednesday, but many places will be
dry and bright, though still rather cold. On Thursday it should remain dry and
bright in the north and east, but cloud will increase in the south-west later
with snow showers possible later in the day.
Outlook:
It looks like it will remain changeable for the foreseeable future with further
snow in places. However, temperatures are likely to increase a little with rain
also possible at lower elevations.
Next detailed snow forecast will be on Thursday 28 March, but see Today
in the Alps for daily updates
