Join students from around the globe in these unique summer programs. Youth between the ages of 8 and 18 can spend a week enhancing their skills in a specific area through an intensive, hands-on learning experience with expert instructors. Structured classes include practice sessions, exercises, skill-building activities, group work, field trips, and other forms of learning that complement the subject area.

ISPY — International Summer Programs for Youth — offers English-language learning programs and intensive Music Programs ranging from two to six weeks. These programs are suitable for a broad range of ages and abilities. All of our programs incorporate an experiential learning component, which allows students to apply their skills in an authentic situation. English language students apply their skills through the global responsibility program, which takes them through a curriculum of leadership skills, exploration of global issues, and involves participating in local service initiatives linked to leadership skill development outcomes.

Summer Music Academies is for young, experienced musicians who have a passion for music. Band, Voice, and and Musical Theatre students learn with talented clinicians, and perform in small ensembles and final concerts. Throughout each program, students are encouraged to reach their full potential with exposure to experts in their field, stimulating instruction, and guided learning.

Jazz Band and Rhythm & Blues MusicThe Jazz Band workshop is for students who would like to experience jazz in Big Band. This workshop not only provides excellent instruction in a positive and fun environment, it is also an excellent opportunity for young rising stars to meet and develop their skills in a traditional big band setting. In addition to daily rehearsals, there are also master classes and improvisation sessions. The music will be energized with swing, latin, and rhythm and blues, and is open to saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, vocalists, and drums students. Clarinet or flute players can also be accommodated through special arrangement. Subject to enrolment, there will be both intermediate and advanced ensembles.

Jazz CombosGroups of 4-8 players work in small ensembles under the direction of a single teacher. All levels are welcome and groups will be organized so that students work with others at a similar level. The teachers may also perform with the students.

The Jazz Combos will focus on improvisation, rhythm and small group arrangements. The instrumentation will be rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass & drums) plus lead instruments consisting of almost anything else, including voice.

ChoirThis program has a strong emphasis on healthy vocal production, music reading skills, and performance. Students will learn to use proper vocal technique and understand how posture and breath affect the voice. Participants will develop the discipline and work ethic necessary to sing in an ensemble, including learning to manage time and work, preparing for rehearsals and performances as necessary, acting professionally on stage, and being an important member of a talented group.

Instruments may be rented from Long & McQuade, who are offering a special rate for SummerBand students.

It was a very fun and nice experience to work with people who have the same passion as you with different ages and experiences.
