SMME Skills Programme Invitation to Enterprises Project Rationale South Africa has a massive skills shortage in the ICT sector. The sector together with academia is required to help the country build capacity needed to develop a digital economy. Project RationaleSouth Africa has a massive skills shortage in the ICT sector. The sector together with academia is required to help the country build capacity needed to develop a digital economy. Background to CHEITA Background to CHEITAChemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA) in partnership with Masithuthuke Holdings (Pty)Ltd will be implementing an Entrepreneurs skills programme. The programme will run in three provinces, Kwa-Zulu Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.

The programme is designed to respond to ICT skills shortages, prepare enterprises to deal with business challengesinnovatively.

The Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA) is a statutory body established through the Skills Development Act of 1998 to enable its stakeholders to advance the national and global position of the Chemical Industries sector.

The Chemical Industries Education & Training Authority (CHIETA) as guided by its mandate is an agent of transformation and seeks to promote employment equity and broad based BEE through skills development.

For the Entrepreneurs• Entrepreneurs are invited to

participate in a recruitment process to ensure that learners are selected and meet employer requirements;

• Participating enterprises will not incur associated costs for participating on the programme.

• Once the learning areas of the programme are completed, entrepreneurs will be able to contribute to the operational workload of their businesses more innovatively.

• Entrepreneurs will be provided with an opportunity to gain new ICT skills.

• Entrepreneurs will accumulate credits towards their learning areas.

Pam has experience in setting up abroadband network from her previous job, but is unsure how her experience can transfer over to this new project.

This case study follows their progress as they research ways that the Internet can help Mr. Lee’s business.

businesses, they’re interested in supporting the project as local contractors. Join them

as they learn about the responsibilities of a contractor.
