Considered the most important handgun ever producedby the factory, the Smith & Wesson .38 Military &Police revolver is the earliest model that remains in con-tinuous production. Since 1899, over six million unitshave been produced and sold worldwide to lawenforcement organizations, military agencies and toprivate citizens.

Built in 1899, the .38 Military & Police was originallydesigned to fire the .38 U.S. Service Cartridge (.38 LongColt). However, D.B. Wesson wanted the handgun to bemore powerful than the Colt and suggested lengtheningthe cartridge case to increase the powder charge from18 grains to 21.5 grains and the bullet weight from 150grains to 158. The new and powerful cartridge wouldbe known as the .38 S&W Special. Everything aboutthis revolver was innovative, from its solid frame and itshand ejector system to the cartridges it fired. TheM&P, now known as the Model 10, was an immediatesuccess. The sheer firepower of the handgun, whichcould shoot through nearly seven and a half inches ofsolid pine, made it a formidable weapon for crimefighting.

Since 1899, the Smith & Wesson M&P has been carriedby law enforcement and military agencies around theworld. Never in the history of firearms has any modelbeen in continual production so long, serving the gov-ernment, law enforcement and the people for which itwas designed.

After more than a century of successful service from the Smith & WessonMilitary & Police Model 10 revolver, the M&P line is expanding. No longerlimited to revolvers, Smith & Wesson will now offer the Military & PoliceSemi-Automatic Pistol Series. Engineered to become the handgun of choicefor global law enforcement and military personnel, the M&P Pistol Series isbased on input from over a dozen law enforcement and military organiza-tions. Reflected in nearly every facet of this new design, Smith & Wessonengineers have addressed the evolving needs of military and police. Realworld problems dictate that a handgun be dependable in all scenarios. It islightweight, high capacity, extremely rugged, and capable of functioningflawlessly.

The M&P Pistol Series is available in .40 S&W, 9mm and .357 Sig. and laterin compact frame sizes. For durability, the M&P features a Zytel® polymerframe reinforced with a rigid stainless steel chassis and a thru-hardenedblack melonite® stainless steel barrel and slide giving the pistol a surfacehard enough to sharpen a steel blade. Along with a new-age trigger system,featuring a smooth 6.5 lb. trigger pull and an advanced ergonomic designthat features an 18-degree grip angle for natural aiming, the M&P has acombination of features that provides reduced felt recoil resulting in unpar-alleled shootability. The M&P pistol incorporates a number of unique fea-tures: three easily interchangeable palmswell grip sizes for various handsizes, an ambidextrous slide stop, reversible magazine catch and an enlargedtrigger guard to accommodate gloved hands. With a universal Picatinny-style equipment rail incorporated for tactical lights and lasers, dovetailmount front sights, steel Novak® Lo-mount carry rear sights (or Tritiumsights), the M&P has it all, yet weighs only 24.25 ounces. Following on the heels of more than a century of success with the Military & Police Series, the new Smith & WessonM&P15 rifles are based on the popular semi-automatic AR-15 rifle. These rugged, lightweight rifles chambered in5.56 mm NATO are built to perform flawlessly under varied conditions.

The standard M&P15 offers both the professional and sporting shooter the ideal top-of-the-line semi-automatic rifle.Featuring A removable carry handle and adjustable front and rear sights, the M&P15 offers quick sight acquisitionand convenient handling. As tough as it is effective, the rifle comes standard with a chrome-lined 16-inch barrel, boltcarrier and gas key while its six-position adjustable stock easily accommodates varied shooters and shooting posi-tions. The M&P15 is shipped with a hard carry case.

The M&P15A is equipped with a rear folding battle sight in place of theremovable carry handle.

Since 1852, Smith & Wesson has maintained

a reputation as the premier hand-gun maker due in large part to inno-

vative design in response to customer need. Theworld famous Model 29 .44 Magnum® revolver is proof ofthat creative excellence and quality. For years big-borehandgunners like Elmer Keith wanted a gun to handle the

heaviest of loads. In the early 1950s, Smith & Wessonresponded by developing a revolutionary handgun to fire a new

and powerful cartridge. In 1956, the heavy duty, N-Frame .44Magnum® revolver was made available to the public and in 1957 was

assigned the model number “29”.

The reputation of the .44 Magnum® Model 29 reached a new pin-nacle after the release of the film Dirty Harry starring ClintEastwood. “Dirty Harry”, Detective Harry Callahanannounced the Model 29, .44 Magnum® was “the most power-ful handgun in the world.” For the last fifty years, the .44Magnum® Model 29 has been recognized as a legendary pow-erhouse.

With modifications and improvements along the way, theModel 29 enjoyed decades of attention until 1999, when it was

joined by the Stainless Steel Model 629. In 2005, Field & Streamrated the Model 29 as the 5th best gun ever made, the only handgun

to make their top ten. Smith & Wesson honors this revered firearm witha special 50th Anniversary Limited Production offered complete with anengraved 24kt gold plated anniversary logo and mahogany presentationcase.

In the years following World War II, law enforcement officers needed a small, yet powerful handgun that could be easily concealedfor plain-clothes work. The .32 Hand Ejector, or as it was better known in the factory, the I-Frame had been a good revolver sincethe late 1800s, but was limited to firing less powerful cartridges. Since its introduction, the K-Frame has been a favorite of target shooters as well as military and police shooters. In the 1930s, atthe suggestion of competitive shooters, the K-Frame was offered in .22, .32 and .38 caliber rounds. The models offered were knownas the K-22 Outdoorsman, K-32 Outdoorsman and K-38 Outdoorsman. After World War II, the K-Frame target series wasredesigned with ribbed barrels and an anti-backlash feature and was known as the K-22 Masterpiece, the K-32 Masterpiece andthe K-38 Masterpiece. In the 1950s, the K-Frame was redesigned to handle heavier loads, giving shooters the option of increasedpower. To meet the demands of law enforcement officers, the Smith & Wesson Model 19 Combat Magnum® debuted in 1955, a K-frame revolver that was chambered to fire the powerful .357 Magnum® cartridge. Today, the K-Frame is available in both .22Long Rifle and .38 S&W Special.
