Q: You’ve had your porcelain veneers for two years now. What’s the verdict? How do you like them? Maryanna: Like, doesn’t adequately describe it. I love them! Having the procedure done has made more of an impact than I could have ever imagined. Q: Can you be more specific? Maryanna: Sure. Once you have a smile you love, you naturally smile more often. I wouldn’t call it showing off, but it feels great to have a great smile. It makes you want to smile more. I have also noticed the huge impact teeth have on one’s overall appearance. It’s true what they say, “a great smile is the ultimate accessory.” Q: What made you first think of getting veneers? Maryanna: I was diagnosed with a few cavities on my front teeth. The Doctors told me they could be fixed with bonding, but they took the time to ask if there was anything I didn’t like about my smile. Well, yes there was. I had some crowding and overlap, and I did want them whiter. Q: What was the next step? Maryanna: Well instead of rushing into the bonding, the Doctors took models and photos of my mouth. From these, they did an analysis which determined how they could best correct my complaints. I obviously liked their solution as I’m here today. Q: Common questions we often get concerning the procedure are: How long does it take? And does it hurt? What can you share with us? Maryanna: First off, the procedure was relatively painless. The Doctors and staff go to great lengthens to be sure you’re comfortable and very numb. There was a little soreness for a few days after, but it was mild. As far as time goes, I was finished in just a few weeks. It’s a really amazing outcome in a short period of time. Q: Have you talked with other people who have veneers? Maryanna: As a matter of fact, yes I have. This has made me like mine even more. I’ve seen others done elsewhere that look thick and chalky. They just don’t look natural. The Doctors emphasized to me early on that thorough analysis and preparation are essential. Personally, I know it’s very important to have a dentist who is well educated in cosmetic dentistry doing this type of procedure. These guys take a lot of courses and it shows. Q: Would you recommend veneers to others? Maryanna: Absolutely! Once you really love your smile, you can’t help but ask yourself why you didn’t do it sooner. It’s a very positive life changing experience. In fact, my husband is finishing up some orthodontics and he’s going to get veneers very soon. So, no problem on this one. If you don’t like your smile, talk to the Doctors about veneers. You’ll be very glad you did. A Conversation With Maryanna A New Look With The Same Friendly Care!

SMILE REPORT

Maryanna Abriola recently allowed us to frame and display her smile portrait in our newly renovated waiting room. We sat down with her to collect her thoughts on her new smile.

Q: You’ve had your porcelain veneers for two years now. What’s the verdict? How do you like them?

Maryanna: Like, doesn’t adequately describe it. I love them! Having the procedure done has made more of an impact than I could have ever imagined.

Q: Can you be more specific?Maryanna: Sure. Once you have a smile you love, you naturally smile more often. I

wouldn’t call it showing off, but it feels great to have a great smile. It makes you want to smile more. I have also noticed the huge impact teeth have on one’s overall appearance. It’s true what they say, “a great smile is the ultimate accessory.”

Q: What made you first think of getting veneers?Maryanna: I was diagnosed with a few cavities on my front teeth. The Doctors told

me they could be fixed with bonding, but they took the time to ask if there was anything I didn’t like about my smile. Well, yes there was. I had some crowding and overlap, and I did want them whiter.

Q: What was the next step?Maryanna: Well instead of rushing into the bonding, the Doctors took models and

photos of my mouth.

Periodontal (gum) disease can alter your glucose metabolism even if you are not diabetic. This is worrisome because experts believe this could lead to prediabetes in which blood glucose levels are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. Prediabetes can be a precursor to Type 2 diabetes.

The relationship between periodontal disease and diabetes has been studied extensively for more than fi fty years. Each arrives silently...is chronic ... epidemic ... and has been associated with chronic infl ammation. Gum disease is an infection that occurs when the bacteria in plaque, the fi lm on your teeth, is allowed to build up and infl ame your gums. It can lead to tooth loss and bone loss, and has been linked to cardiovascular

and other systemic diseases including diabetes. Diabetics with periodontal disease have two chronic conditions which may affect each other. People with prediabetes or diabetes are likely to have periodontal disease more often and more severely than people without. Diabetics with periodontal disease have more diffi culty controlling blood sugar levels. This perpetuates the risk of recurring gum disease and increases the risk of other diabetic complications during every stage of life, including childhood and pregnancy.

Gum disease can arrive without symptoms, and has been linked to both prediabetes and diabetes. It’s in everyone’s best interests to have regular oral exams.

So Much In CommonAbout gum disease, diabetes ... and you!

Gr in & Bear I t ...for oral health!

Exercise benefits run more than skin deep. Exercise contributes to the reversal of ageing at the cellular level. Astounding! Whether you perform aerobics for cardiovascular stamina or anaerobics for strength, your exercise program could jumpstart your quality of life.

When weight-bearing exercises are incorporated into your fi tness program, they can also ward off thinning of the bones, or osteoporosis, which has been linked to poor oral and overall health.

How do weight-bearing exercises improve bone density? They work your bones and muscles against gravity. In

reaction to the exerted force of your body mass and the pull of your muscles, the bone adapts by building more cells which increases sturdiness.

So do pushups, lift weights, or even cartwheel into your stronger, more-energized future. You’ll eat better, sleep better, and smile more!

Fact

s FAQHow often should I brush my teeth?

A: Brush gently at least twice a day for at least two minutes, and fl oss once a day, ideally at bed time.

My teeth are too close together to floss. What can I do?

A: If you’re not fl ossing you’re missing about a third of your tooth surfaces where your brush can’t reach! Waxed fl oss can be easier to use, but there are other types to suit different needs – tape, thread, unwaxed, and shred-resistant.

How do you floss wide spaces between teeth?

A: You can substitute fl oss with an interdental cleaner which is also effective with crowns, bridges, and braces.

Should I use an oral irrigator?

A: Oral irrigators are very effective for cleaning around braces and between teeth. They can also be used to clean periodontal pockets and to apply prescription medication.
