The New Smartfind range of Next Generation 406MHz EPIRBs
Meeting the demands of both
commercial mariners and
recreational boaters, the new
McMurdo SMARTFIND heralds the
arrival of the next generation in
EPIRB technology.
This compact and stylish unit is
available as a standard 406 MHz
EPIRB or for enhanced position
location, with a built in high
accuracy GPS.
The key features are:
 Stylish and compact
 GMDSS compliant
Non hazardous battery for safe and easy transportation
Unique CARRYSAFE bracket for safe transportation
High brightness LED flashing locator lights
Integrated 12 channel GPS (PLUS version)
 Comprehensive diagnostic and self-test facilities
 6 year warranty*
 6 year battery life*
The McMurdo
SMARTFIND EPIRB is
the result of an
extensive research and
development program
with a brief to produce
a compact, robust yet
stylish beacon. The
resulting EPIRB offers
the latest state of the
art technology
ensuring that it
exceeds the
requirements of both
commercial mariners
and recreational
boaters.
The SMARTFIND
Series consists of two
base models;
SMARTFIND E5 is a
406 MHz EPIRB
designed to operate
with the COSPAS-
SARSAT international
search and rescue
system. Once removed
from its CARRYSAFE
mounting bracket the
unit can be activated
automatically by
immersion in water, or
manually by following
the activation
instructions printed on
the unit.
The SMARTFIND PLUS
G5 has all the
advanced features of
the standard
SMARTFIND E5 with
the addition of an
integral 12 channel
GPS receiver. The
addition of a GPS
receiver to the EPIRB
ensures that the exact
position of a casualty
is relayed to the
rescue services. This
will in turn improve
the speed of recovery
by updating the
position of the beacon
at regular intervals.
SMARTFIND EPIRBs
are programmed with
a unique serial number
which must be
registered with the
national authorities.
Where permitted by
these authorities,
beacons can be re-
programmed with the
vessel’s MMSI or
Radio Call Sign.
This can be done by
authorised McMurdo
service agents.

GMDSS
The SMARTFIND
E5/G5 range of
EPIRBs are fully
compliant with
international
legislation and
meet worldwide
approval
standards.
How Does
SMARTFIND
Work?
When activated,
SMARTFIND transmits
radio signals which are
detected by the global
COSPAS-SARSAT
satellite network. The
signal is then passed on
to ground stations for
processing. Any
emergency distress
alerts received are
relayed to the nearest
automated relay station.
The processed
information is then
forwarded to a control
centre where it is
decoded and the
distress and registration
details are passed on to
the relevant search and
rescue authority.
The SMARTFIND PLUS
G5 406 GPS EPIRB
features an integral 12
channel GPS receiver
within a compact and
stylish 406 EPIRB. The
benefit of the
SMARTFIND PLUS G5
integral GPS is that it
has the ability to
provide a position when
the EPIRB has been
activated and is drifting
at sea, the position is
then constantly updated
throughout the operating
life of the beacon.
