SolutionWith SMARTair wireless access control, Witzand facility managers can tailor the precise security levels they need for different areas of the building. It’s easy to manage and amend access rights for every site user.A combination of battery-powered SMARTair devices — wireless escutcheons, cylinders and wall readers — ensure security at their new Almelo building meets the demands of a busy mixed-use environment. Employees carry programmable MIFARE® smart cards which allow them to freely use offices and secure warehouse areas. Shoppers only have access to the retail areas of this new superstore during opening hours.The Almelo installation runs via an Update on Card system, which is adapted to premises with medium to high daily user traffic. Strategically located wall updaters provide a link between the software and SMARTair-protected doors. With Update on Card management, administrators can set time-limited access rights and order audit trails when needed. It is easy to cancel a card’s access permissions if an employee leaves — and there’s no need to worry about unauthorised copies of physical keys. Go keyless . Keep control . In university buildings or student halls of residence, mechanical locks don’t offer the control managers need . There’s no real-time monitoring, and you can’t generate detailed audit trails for locks or users, meaning there’s no easy way to track un-authorised access — in cases of a theft, for example . ChallengeOpened in 1902, Brisbane Boys College is one of Australia’s most prestigious schools. The opening of a new building – with 36 classrooms and 96 doors in total – provided an opportunity to upgrade access control from an expensive and time- consuming mechanical master key system that had been in place for over 100 years. What was needed was a 21st-century solution to securing the new annex.

SolutionSMARTair® wireless access control met the school’s needs. Doors were fitted with new electronic escutcheons and wall readers. Because the system is wireless, installation was quick and caused mini-mal disruption to building aesthetics and every-day school life. Students come from all over the world to study on CUNEF’s Masters programmes.As in many educational institutions, access control challenges at CUNEF centre around keeping the site secure while providing flexible and user-friendly access to an ever-changing roster of staff, students and visitors.

SolutionFunway selected a SMARTair® electronic access control system. Now, student rooms are locked with SMARTair® escutcheons. Energy-saving wall devices inside rooms regulate electricity use, and students each have a safe with a SMARTair® e-motion cabinet lock. Students and staff open all authorised doors with the same access card: Funway’s gym, study rooms, games rooms, pool and changing rooms, spa and staff areas are also locked with SMARTair® escutcheons. ChallengeThe Tatra National Park is a national symbol of Slovakia and in 1993 was designated a transboun-dary biosphere reserve by UNESCO. The park is famed for its mountainous scenery, and is visited by tourists, hikers and campers all year.On the Slovakian side of the border, park camp-ground facilities were being used by day-trippers, when they were intended for registered campsite guests only. This increased the risk of theft and vandalism, as well as causing more wear and tear.

ChallengeStanding 200 metres high, Tower 185 comprises an office building with 51 floors and a base building with a horseshoe-shaped floor plan. A new landmark of Frankfurt’s skyline, the building combines advanced functional, environmental and economic elements in its design. Original plans specified that the entire building should be equipped with a mechanical locking system. However, with repeated loss of keys and the associated expense, the facility management company decided to install a more flexible, user-friendly system.

SolutionBuilding managers at Tower 185 chose SMARTair® Update on Card management system. For Tower 185’s SMARTair® installation, access permissions at the door are updated via user cards. Access control management is simple, visual and easy to operate. Users open doors with smart cards employing MIFARE® technology.SMARTair® is cost efficient in its daily operation. Instead of a permanent connection to mains electricity, SMARTair® devices are powered by standard lithium-ion batteries. This reduces lock operating and maintenance costs, and uses significantly less energy than traditional wired access solutions. Intelligent technology notifies the system when it’s time for a new battery.Tower 185 is one of the first European high-rises to be issued Gold LEED Certification from the US Green Building Council. In support of sustain-able building projects, ASSA ABLOY Group has published over 100 Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for its locking components, including in the SMARTair® range. ChallengeWorking with architect Francisco Daroca Bruño, Spain’s Red Cross sought a new Córdoba office block designed around the person, to reflect the or-ganizations human welfare-related work. The new building combines modern materials and Andalu-sian design principles to create a flexible workspace bathed in natural light.The project’s main security challenge was to offer the highest levels of protection for a broad range of users – around 300 in an average day.

SolutionSMARTair® wireless access control met the key goal: to accommodate the needs of all users, in one efficient, configurable system. Wooden, glass and emergency-exit doors are secured with SMARTair® door devices, and two wall readers bring lift access into the same SMARTair® system.The site has 100 permanent staff and a roster of around 3,000 volunteers. With SMARTair®, doors are opened with programmable smart cards, eliminating risks associated with lost keys. A single system gives facilities managers control over who accesses the building, and when. With SMARTair® Wireless Online management, staff monitors security status in real time. It is easy to receive audit trails from SMARTair® devices, and to expand a SMARTair® installation should the Red Cross want to bring more premises into the system. Aesthetics played a pivotal role in the Red Cross’ choice. Glass doors complement the open, transparent new building. ChallengeULab is a new co-working space in Alicante’s financial district, with 56 workstations, 12 offices and an area reserved for events.
