EXT. BASEBALL FIELD - THURS EVENING

1975 small town USA- A group of friends are at the local lotpracticing baseball. Today was the last day of school and

they are out enjoying the beginning of summer vacation.

RALPHBottom of the ninth. Bases loaded.Andy Messersmith steps up to theplate. And heres the pitch!

Ralph throws his fastest pitch he can at Nate. Its high andto the right.

Phil get up, brushes off his pants, and walks toward thearguing pair.

PHILWell come on now Nate, theres somegirls, like Tracy, Jenn, and--others.

RALPHYeah, Phils right, and thats justour grade. Next year we hit highschool. And just think, all thoseolder babes!

EXT. QUIET TOWN CORNER - DUSK

Nate pedals fast, not because hes mad, just slightlyannoyed at Ralph. He smiles, enjoying the cooling summerair. He slows for an intersection. looks up to see a girlriding her bicycle on the other side of the road. Suddenly,the girl takes a turn on the sidewalk and hits a patch ofsand. She falls to the ground and bags full of groceriesspill onto the cement. Concerned, Nate rides his bike up toher.

NATEGnarly crash, need some help?

Nate quickly realizes its the new girl, Ivy. Ivy stands andbrushes herself off.

IVYYes--

She looks Nate up and down.

IVY--but not from you. Unless you fixbicycles. If not buzz off.

Ivy begins to pick up the food items scattered on thesidewalk, Nate moves to help her.

NATE

Bicycles?

IVYYeah turkey, if you werent sodense you would see my bikesbusted.

Ivy moves to her bike and holds it up for Nates inspection.The right pedal is broken off.

NATEOh, well glad youre okay-- well,See ya--

Nate begins to walk away. Ivy glances up from picking up thegroceries.

IVYWait, Im sorry, its just-- todaysbeen bogus, obviously! Thanks forhelping me.. Hey where ya headed?

NATEHome. Supposed to be back beforedark.

IVYGuessed that, where is homeexactly?

NATEEnd of Evergreen Ave. Couple milesfrom here.

Ivy flashes a smile. Nate sheepishly grins back, unsure ofthe situation and the girl in front of him.

IVYI need to get these groceries hometo my Gran, but my-- or, our block

is a ways away. Mind helping a gal?

NATEWhy not.

IVYGnarly! youre a pal Nate!

Ivy hangs one of the bags on her handlebars, and gives theother bag to Nate. They walk a block in silence.

NATEIvy?

IVYMmhmm?

NATEWhy exactly did you move with onlya couple weeks of school left?Seems a bit-- strange.

Ivys gaze drifts to the spokes of her front wheel.

IVY

Its, its complicated--

NATEYou live with your grandmother?

IVY(sigh)

Yeah,family troubles. Youunderstand right?

NATEThink so. Im sorry.

IVYDont be, not your fault.

They continued walking around a curve in the road. Suddenly

Ivy stopped. She paused for a second. staring off into thedistance.

NATEHey, you okay?

Ivy closes her eyes, her bike drops to the ground. Her armsslowly wrap around herself as if a cold wind has hit her.Nate looks on, troubled. Ivys breathing quickens as if sheis doing a strenuous activity. Her eyes snap open and shequickly glances from the road to Nate, and finally rests onthe woods to their right. (Ivy has just had a vision inwhich she and Nate are hit by the truck. However this isnt

shown to the viewer.)

IVYWhats in there?

Ivy points past a wall where the land rises steeply and intoa dense woods.

NATENot sure. The wall goes all the wayaround that place. Why? You sureyoure okay?

By now Ivys breathing has slowed, but she still seemsnervous.

IVYOf course Im okay, silly! Whywouldnt I be?

NATEWell you just--

IVYIm fine! Think theres anything in

there? Wanna check it out?

NATEIm supposed to be home soon.

IVYCome on, what are ya? Chicken?

Nate looks at his watch. 6:04.

NATEOnly if we make it quick. Whatabout the groceries? Wontsomething go bad?

IVY

Nah, theyll be fine.

NATEOkay, but how are we getting in? Noway were climbing over that razorwire.

IVYOh, there has to be a holesomeplace. This wall looks ancient.

NATEBelieve me, me and my friends have

rode circles around this wall foryears. Theres no way!

IVYJeepers! Its like they want to keepsomething locked away. (ominously)or in.

NATEThis town isnt that interesting.

IVYNever know!

The pair walk a few more minutes along the edge of the wall.Suddenly, Ivy jumps ahead excitedly.

IVYHey look!

Ivy runs forward and squats by the wall. She pulls somevines aside revealing small hole in the wall.

IVYSee! Told ya

Nate walks over and inspects the wall. Sure enough, there isa hole just large enough for a small person to fit through.Ivy grabs Nates bike away from him and pushes it into theunderbrush.

NATEHey hold on--

IVYWell youre taking forever! Quick!suns setting!

EXT. QUIET OLD WOODS - DUSK

Nate follows Ivy off the road as they dump their bikesbehind some low bushes. They then work their way into thehole and slide out on the other side. The woods are dim andquiet, but the setting sun still sheds enough light toeasily see where theyre going. Slowly they make their waythrough the woods. The pair follow what seems to be a driedup creek bed. They look around marveling how the old oaksseem to glow in the fading light. Golden Sunlight streaksthrough the roof giving making everything feel like anotherworld.

IVY

Wow, its beautiful. Dontcha thinkNate?

Nate gazes at Ivy as she twirls through the forest. Eyesclosed and arms spread.

NATEYeah-- Stellar.

IVYWow, its so peaceful here.

NATE

Never wouldve guessed it by thatcrummy wall.

IVYFor sure! Never know whats thereuntil you look!

The two walk for another couple of minutes. Suddenly theycome to a clearing. They find the remnants of some unknownancient ruins. Pillars and stone slabs are scattered about.

IVYNate check these out!

Ivy runs up to some ruined columns.

IVYThese are so sick! Probably someancient shrine or something! Heylook at this!

Ivy walks over to a stand with a basin in it. The basin

appears to be raised higher to be the focal point ofwhatever the ruins used to be. It is clear it used to beextremely ornate, and while it is heavily dilapidated, itstill holds immense beauty. Strange ruins run up the standand also into the basin where a pool of crystal clear waterhas collected.

IVYGnarly! Wonder what this was for.Wait! Betcha I Know! Nate get overhere!

Nate hesitates then joins Ivy behind the stand.

IVYIve read about this, the Aztecs hadsome kind of ritual. Ya know? Thepriest would get a volunteer--

Ivy slowly moves behind Nate and puts a hand on hisshoulder, indicating for him to kneel. Nate obliges and Ivythen whispers into his ear.

IVYThey would position their head sohes staring at the sky--

Ivy gently lifts Nates chin skyward and his cheeks begin toredden.

IVYAnd slit their throat and spilltheir blood!

Nate jumps, shocked by Ivys outburst. Ivy falls downlaughing.

IVYChill! You jumped a mile!

NATENearly gave me a heart attack!

IVYI was joshin!

NATEYeah, more like trying to kill aguy!

Playfully, Nate throws a twig at Ivy.

IVYHey! what was that for?

NATEJee, I wonder!

Ivy throws one back in mock anger. Nate picks a handful ofold foliage of the ground and throws it at Ivy. Ivy jumpsup.

IVY(laughing) Now youve doneit!)

Nate gets up and runs, laughing. Ivy follows through thewoods. Camera pans up and fade to black.

EXT. ROAD - SUNSET

Nate and Ivy run through the woods laughing.

IVYCant catch me slow poke!

NATE

Well see about that!

Nate and Ivy emerge from the forest. Light has faded, andits somewhat dark. Nate checks his watch. 6:57. Both pushtheir bikes onto the dirt shoulder.

NATEShoot! Im gonna be late! Ivy comeon!Ivy?

Ivy is standing wide-eyed, looking at the ground. (What shesees is the line "Get off the road" written in the dirt, butthis isnt shown to the camera. This has been written by Ivyfrom the future, but this isnt explained until later in thefilm She snaps out of it once she hears a truck reviving andquickly turns to Nate.

NATEWah--

Ivy grabs Nates arm as the truck swerves out of its laneand comes barreling toward them. They dive just before thetruck runs them over. The truck rams the bikes and groceries

sending food and debris everywhere. The truck swipes a treetaking off its side mirror before coming to a stop. Ivy getsoff up of the ground. She is visibly shaken, and when shespeaks its but a whisper.

IVYDrunken turkeys-- Couldve--

killed us

Nate squints in the fading light and sees a rusted Chevypickup truck. He notices the rebel flag hanging from theback window.

NATEWe need to go.

IVYWhat?

NATEBack to the woods, quick!

IVYWhat? Why? our bikes!

NATE

Leave em!

Nate and Ivy hide in the bushes. James stumbles out of thetruck and looks at the damage. Bruce staggers out as well.

JAMESWhatd we hit?

BRUCENot sure.

The two walk down the road toward where Nate and Ivy arehiding. They find the ruined bikes and groceries.

JAMESWell shit, Bruce. We kill someone?

BRUCEWasnt any blood on the truck.

JAMESWell whatre a couple a bikes doinout here?

BRUCEDont know, but the owners cant be

far. (yelling) What happened herewas an accident! You two--

Bruce sees name scratched onto one of the frames. He lightsa match to read it. It reads Nate Hynes.

BRUCE(to the woods)

Well Nate Hynes, what happened herewas this. You and your friend werebeing a couple of asses and leftyour bikes in the street. Thatsthe story and if you say different

youll be paid a visit by me. youcan count on that! Lets go James.

They pick up the mangled bike frames and walk back towardtheir truck, then throw the bikes in the bed.

JAMESWho the hell is Nate Hynes?

BRUCEI dont know but were gonna findout.

Truck leaves. Ivy and Nate crawl out of the woods. The roadis now littered with Ivys groceries.

IVYWho were those creeps?

NATECouple of seniors, nobody to messwith.

IVYBut they jacked our bikes!

NATEDont matter, sure they were bustedafter a hit like that.

IVYWhat punks! Should be taught alesson.

NATEHey relax, Okay? Nothing we can do.

Once more Ivy grew silent and stared at the dirt. Softly,almost so much so that Nate misses it, she whispers.

IVYTheres always something you cando.

The pair walk silently along the road while the light fades.Finally they make it back to their block. Ivys house it upon a hill, away from everyone else. It is clearly older thanmany of the houses, and is in need of many repairs.

IVYWell Nate, heres my house. Thanksfor the, well, interesting evening.

NATEHey no problem, sorry those prickshad to ruin it.

IVYNot your fault in the least bud.Hey, whatre ya doing tomorrow?

NATENot much, playing some ball withthe guys, why?

IVY

Well, I was thinking of doing somemore exploring, you know? See whatwe can find in the daylight.

NATEOh, I dont know the guys--

IVYAhh the guys the guys-- you haveall summer to hang with the guys!

NATEGuess so, fine! They want to playball at 2:00 but well probably bedone by 3ish.

IVY3:00 sounds great! Where do yawanna meet? Soda Fountain?

With that Ivy dashes to her house and inside. Nate quickenshis pace for the last couple blocks to his house.

INT. NATES HOUSE - NIGHT FALL

Nate rushes into his house. His family is already sittingaround the table. Nates father, BENJAMIN, reads the paperwhile his mother, KAREN, puts their supper on the table.Nates 8 year old sister, CYNTHIA, runs up to him and giveshim a hug.

CYNTHIAWeve been waiting FOREVER!

NATEI was--

MRS. HYNES

Its after dark! You know the rules.At least call us!

NATEBut--

Benjamin Hynes sets down the paper and looks over hisbifocals.

MR. HYNESAlright, everyone calm down. Nate,your mothers right. You are late,but its not the end of the world.Im sure you have an explanation?

NATEYeah, playing some ball with theguys. It went kind of late. Sorry.

was I was almost home.

MRS. HYNESWhatever you see fit, dear.

MR. HYNES

Well, considering his tardinesswasnt outrageous, and hes gettingin some good practice, I thinkwell let him off with a warning.

Mr. Hynes flashed a wink to Nate. Nate tried to suppress asmile. Mrs. Hynes turned back to the table, and sighed.

MRS. HYNESJust be on time from now on. Okay?

NATEI will Mom.

MRS. HYNESOkay good. Now whos turn is it tosay grace?

CYNTHIA/NATENot it!

The family laughs as the camera pans backwards and the scenefades to black.

EXT. BALL DIAMOND- FRIDAY 2:33

Nates dad drops him off at the ball diamond where Ralph andPhil are already throwing the ball back and forth. Nate runsup to the guys

The group starts practice. After 10 minutes it is clear thatNate doesnt have his head in the game and cant hit asingle ball.

RALPHStrike two! Come on man you eventrying?

Nate takes a swing at an invisible ball in disgust.

NATEHey, give me a break man! Justwarming up!

Ralph sends another pitch at Nate. Once again Nate swingsand completely misses it.

RALPHNate! That was the crummiest swingI ever saw!

NATEWell maybe if you actually threw inthe zone Id have a chance!

Phil runs in from the outfield

Nate walks off toward the center of town. Ralph and Philwatch him go, suspicious.

INT. SODA FOUNTAIN 3:06

Imagine classic ice cream parlor, with giant over sizedlolly pops on the counter and candy on shelves. TheShopkeeper is dressed in a white and red striped uniformwith a matching hat. Nate enters and sees Ivy sitting at thecounter drinking a smoothie.

NATEHey, sorry Im late.

IVY

Nate, there you are! Ive beenwaiting forever!

NATEHey! Sorry! Im not that late!

IVY(Laughing) Chill, I wasjoshin.

NATEI was gonna say! So whats up? Yourgrandma mad you lost the groceries?

IVYNah, I said I forgot to pick emup. Shes so nice she wouldnt havecared anyway.

Ivy gives Nate a looks of mischief. Nate smiles, and looksup to the shopkeeper.

NATE

Excuse me sir-- I think I know whatIm having--

A couple minutes later Nate is sitting in front of amonstrosity of a drink. It is a sparkling orange soda withwhipping creme and cherry on top.

IVY(looking on enviously) Nowthat-- thats a drink.

NATE(gleaming) Sure is!

IVYLucky youve got me right?

NATEYeah, guess so.

IVYYou guess so? (mock disgust) Daggerin the heart.

NATE(Laughs)Im joking. Yes Ivy,

(Awkward Pause, the shopkeeper walks toward the back of thestore)

IVYNate, can I tell you a secret.

NATE

(taken back) Uh-- sure go forit.

IVYOkay, but you have to promise meyou wont tell anyone, okay?

NATE(looking intently) I promise.

IVYSwear it?

NATEI swear it! You can trust me.

IVYOkay. Well you know yesterday how Isaid i had family troubles?

NATEYeah, what about it?

IVYWell, its kinda more complicatedthan that.

Ivy glances at the shopkeeper who is still working at theend of the store. She drops her voice lower. Nate leans incloser. There is a flash back the events of Ivys childhood.

IVYWell, My family used to be perfect,From what i can remember anyway. I

IVY (contd)was 5 at the time. Anyway we wereat a gas station. Just paying forgas and getting food. When suddenlya robber bursts in demanding money.

Slow-mo of the flashback. The robber can be seen yelling at

the man behind the register. Ivys mom then walks up infront of the robber and begins talking with him.

IVYNext thing I know My moms in frontof him trying to talk him down, andshe-- gets shot. Next thing I knowMoms back at my side, holding myhand-- perfectly fine.

Still flashback, A young Ivy looks confused and looks up ather mom. Her mom looks back down and smiles. A second latera robber bursts through the door.

IVYSuddenly the robber burst throughthe door, just as I saw before. Mymom tries to stop him. Gets shot.Again. This time its real.

Present time. Ivy has tears in her eyes. She had beenstaring at the table. Now her eyes rise to meet Nates,whos eyes are also watery.

IVYI tried explaining what happened to

Dad. He didnt believe me. I knewwhat I saw. I saw my mom die.before it happened, but I couldntdo a thing about it.

Ivys gaze drifted back to the table in front of her.

IVYMy dad died a couple years later.He was driving drunk. Now I livewith my Grandma.

NATEIm-- Im sorry, I didnt know.

IVYThats not all. Yesterday, when wewere walking along the road, I--

Suddenly Ralph and Phil burst into the shop.

Nate and Ivy jump and stare at the pair.

Ivy rapidly wipes the tears from her eyes and tries tocompose herself as Ralph and Phil walk over.

IVYWho are these guys Nate?

NATEIvy, these are my friends, Ralphand Phil. Guys, this is Ivy.

PHILPleasure to meet you.

RALPHHows is going?

Ralph smiles to Ivy then turns and glares at Nate.

IVY

Hey guys, Whos Cynthia?

NATEMy little sister--

RALPH--That hes supposed to be watchingright about now.

PHIL

(Panicking) Shoot, Im allout. Ralph?

Ralph shakes his head.

PHILNate?

NATEI can spot ya.

PHILThanks, man.

Ralph walks out. Phil hurriedly follows thanking theshopkeeper quickly and exits the store. Nate puts a dime onthe counter.

IVYWhat was that about?

NATEI think the guys are mad at me forbailing on them.

IVYOh, thats probably my fault. Imsorry.

NATENo, its fine. I wanted to come.

The Shopkeeper leans in over the counter toward Nate.

Ivy flashes a wide smile.

IVYGuys! someones coming.

The group quiets and peers into the darkness. A dark figurecan be scene riding a bike toward them. It passes under astreetlight and light is reflected off of Phils giantglasses.

RALPHThe heck is he riding?

As the bike comes closer it is clear that Phil is too bigfor it. The bike is hot pink along with streamers, basket,and horn. Suddenly Ralph looses control and crashes into agarbage can. There is a loud clang and Phil falls over ontohis side. The horn hits the ground making a loud honk sound.Nate, Ralph and Ivy flinch, then run up to help him.

Ivy points to a pile of what looks like junk. The grouppeers through the fence post and see that it is a pile ofbikes.

PHILWell, who wants to go in?

NATEI got us this far.

Ralph slowly walks up the driveway and creeps toward thebike pile. Suddenly a dog growls. Ralph runs as fast as hisstubby legs can carry him. He makes it back to the group asthe dog starts barking louder. The group freezes.

Slowly, still growling, the dog stalks out of his house.Sniffing the air and eying Ivy. Its a large rottweiler.Its fur is ragged, and it looks malnourished. Ivy reachesout her hand and the dog sniffs it. Gradually Ivy startspetting it, and the dog flips to its back. Ivy rubs hisstomach, then motions for the other guys frantically towardher. Slowly Ralph and Nate start to move. Phil loosens hisgrip on Ralphs arm.

Ralph too gives the cutters his all but is unable to cut thelock. He lays down exhausted.

Ivy walks up to the fence, and lightly pushes on the gate.It swings open freely, as it was never locked in the firstplace. The guys stare in amazement.

NATEIt was unlocked the whole time?

The gang rush up to the door. This time it is locked.

Ivy walks around to the side of the building. She hops afence that leads into the back lawn. This is where the dogsare let out to do their business. Ivy walks along the row ofsmall dog doors that let the dogs outside. She finally stopsat the last one. She sits and scoots herself to the door.She begins kicking the door. The dogs inside start barkingfuriously.

Phil slowly rises looking himself over.

EXT. ROAD SATURDAY LATE NIGHT.

The gang are walking their bikes so Killer can keep up at areasonable pace. They are roughly a 20 min walk from home.They are laughing and enjoying themselves.

RALPHYou shouldve seen the look on your

face man! When killer came chargingout and you jumped into that pileof dog doo-doo!

PHILI didnt jump! The crazy thingknocked me down!

Suddenly a tire screech can be heard. Its coming from theintersection in front of the kids. An old rusted Chevy comesflying through a red light and drifts through theintersection. The group stops and stares.

An eerie bright red glow can be seencoming from one of the houses. Ivy soon realizes its hers.Ivy runs up and throws her bike to the ground. Bruce andJames are running from the side. They are sweating profuselyand are panicking.

We didnt mean to! I swear! Itspread from the shed--

Bruce and James jump in their truck and peel off. Sirens canbe heard. The house has gone up like a matchstick. Ivystands in the lawn and drops to her knees in tears. Thehouse is already engulfed in flames.

IVYGrandma!

Nate and his friends stand in the street staring at thescene. A firetruck rolls up.

FIREMANHey kids, scram!

NATETheres a lady in there still!

FIREMANLets move men! Get the fire out bythe door.

Ivy gets up crying and runs shaking her head. She iscompletely traumatic. She picks up a bike and beginspedaling off.

Nate gets on his bike and takes off after her. Ralph andPhil look on not knowing what to do. Another fireman comesup and forces them back. Killer barks uncontrollably. Natefollows Ivy as closely as he can, but in her agony heradrenaline quickly carries her out of sight. Nate followsanyway, because he knows where shes headed.

EXT. RUINS IN THE WOODS

The moon is up giving everything a surreal greenish glow.The light hits the engravings on the ruins and it seems asif they are actually emitting light. Ivy is sitting on apillar close to the pillar with the basin of water on it.Her face is buried in her hands and it is clear shes cryinguncontrollably. Nate slowly walks up and gently puts a handon her shoulder. The pair are still for a few minutes untilIvys crying slowly stops and the woods are silent.

IVY

How-- (sniffs) did you find me?

NATEI had a hunch.

The two pause for a few moments. Not saying anything as bugsin the night can be heard. A cool, gentle breeze blowsthrough the woods.

IVYGran was all I had left. Now itsjust me.

NATEI-- Im sorry.

IVYNow I dont know what to do.

Ivy stands, and slowly walks to the basin. Nate steps backwatching her. Slowly she bends down to wash her face. Asingle tear falls from her face into the basin. Suddenly afaint humming can be heard, and it begins growing louder.The runes around the basin that appeared to be glowingbefore are now pulsing with light.

NATEIvy-- whats happening?

Ivy looks at Nate in confusion, the lights coming from thebasin grow in intensity. The humming grows louder now, untilits the only thing that can be heard. The scenery aroundthem fades until its almost dreamlike.

The humming is deafening now. The two put their hands totheir ears. The light coming from the basin is now the onlything the two can see. Ivy begins fading. She looks at Nate

with a horrified expression and reaches out her hands. Nategrabs them. The light then engulfs them. White is the onlything they see. They hear a metallic strike, then nothing.

EXT. WOODS THURSDAY EVENING 6:57 PM

Nate and Ivy find themselves in the woods. It is Thursday,the day that the two went into the woods for the first time.They have traveled back in time. Ivy is the first to standup. She looks around.

IVY

Nate, Nate wake up!

NATEWha-- What happened?

IVYI-- I dont know. Looks like thewoods though. Look! theres thewall! And the Opening!

Ivy points, and sure enough they see the opening to thewoods they found earlier in the wall.

NATEHowd we get here? We were deep inthe woods--

IVYNot sure, wait! listen!

The pair freeze, suddenly the two can here snapping twigsand sticks coming from deeper in the woods. The sound getscloser. faintly voices can be heard.

PAST IVYCant catch me slow poke!

PAST NATEOh well see about that!

Future Nate, or the one that just experienced the flash oflight and sound, is greatly confused by the sound of his ownvoice. Future Ivy doesnt give him a chance to ponder on it,and she grabs his hand and begins pulling him through the

Ivy finishes her sentence. It reads "Get off the road" Thesame sentence Ivy read when she first came out of the woodsin the past. She has completed the loops of warning herselfabout the truck. Thus confirming that her vision of thetruck hitting them was yet to happen.

FUTURE IVYNate! I need to tell you something!

Ivy pulls Nate across the road into some bushes.

FUTURE IVYThe day at the ice cream parlor, Ididnt finish my story. That daywhen the truck hit our bikes. I sawit happen!

FUTURE NATEWhat are you talking about?

Future Nate and Ivy watch as Past Nate and Ivy emerge fromthe wall. Nates heart stops, and he vomits. Ivy looks justas shocked, but she continues whispering quickly.

FUTURE IVYI saw the truck hit us Nate. Wedied. Thats why I wanted to go tothe woods. But we wouldve stillbeen hit if I hadnt written thenote to myself.

The future Nate and Ivy watch as past Ivy reads the writingin the dirt.

The future pair watch in horror as the past versions ofthemselves are nearly run over. Ivy breaths a sigh ofrelief.

Future Nate and Ivy awake in roughly the same spot that they

jumped from. They are dazed and confused. But slowly cometo. They look up to see the past versions of themselveswalking on the other side of the road, with them are thepast versions of Ralph and Phil. Future Nate and Ivy arehidden in some bushes and cant be seen. Suddenly the pastversions of themselves look back and see the bullies truckcoming. The past version of the group jumps through thehole. However Ralph gets stuck. The bullies stop their truckand hop out.

toward the sound of the noise.

FUTURE IVYI-- I dont know.

The truck barrels closer. Within a distance of two cityblocks. Ivy stands and dashes to the road. Nate grabs Ivysarm stopping her.

FUTURE NATE

Ivy! Stop!

Ivy turns and punches Nate straight in the face. She dashesinto the road. She stands directly in front of the oncomingtruck. The truck is less then a block away. Suddenly Nategets up. He dashes toward Ivy and tackles her, knocking herout of the way. The truck swerves, and crashes into a tree.Nate and Ivy lay in the middle of the street, unharmed. Ivybrings her hand to her face and cries.

Nate and Ivy look at each other with concern. Suddenly tirescan be heard screeching. Suddenly theres a crash. Ralph andPhil take off running toward the intersection. Ivy and Natefollow. The gang get to the corner and look down the road.They see the bullies truck has just struck a tree.

RALPHShit, its those goons.

PHILLooks bad, come on lets get help!

Phil and Ralph run off to the nearest house. Ivy and Nate

look at each other. They then run off towards the truck.Bruce is stumbling out of the truck. Hes bleeding from acut to the head, and clutching his stomach. James is knockedout in the passengers seat. James sits down and leansagainst his truck tire, he looks back to where hed comefrom, then looks up to see Nate and Ivy running toward himfrom the front of his truck.

BRUCEThe hell?

IVYHey, you okay mister?

BRUCEIm alive.

NATEYour friend?

Suddenly Killer jumps up on Bruce and licks his face.

BRUCEYou guys found Killer! Hey boy!its okay. Im here now.

BRUCEThanks for finding him, I wasworried sick.

IVYNo, prob. Hey you just relax buddy,an ambulance is on the way.

Ivy turns back and looks at Nate, who shrugs. An ambulancecan be heard in the distance. Ivy walks toward Nate andwhispers.

IVYHe doesnt seem to remember us, atleast not yet.

NATELets hope it stays that way.

Nate takes Ivys hand and leads her away from the scene.

NATEYou okay?

Ivys eyes are glistening, and her hands are visiblyshaking. Slowly she nods and sits down along side the road.Nate sits down beside her.

She takes his face in her hands and slowly leans in for thesoftest kiss she can manage, and plants it on Nates cheek.Ivy then pulls away quickly and the two stare at the roadfor a long moment.

NATEI thought you were about to spillmy blood.

Even through her puffy eyes, and frizzled hair. Ivy let outa crystal clear laugh that pierces the night. Nate was soonto follow. Eventually one of the officers that arrived onthe scene walks over to Nate and Ivy.
