Duties & Punishments for Slaves

• Slaves were considered property under Roman Law. They had no legal rights to their citizenship.

• Slaves were treated very unfairly. Mostly women, they did men’s work out on mills and farms and they also could have been forced to sexual exploitation.

• The testimony of a slave could not be accepted in a court of law unless the slave was tortured with full proof.
