A MESSAGE FROM THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR – BILL THEISEN

Welcome to our second world premiere of the season with this incredible production of Daddy Long Legs, a show the Huffington Post called “the most deeply adored new musical of the 21st century.” Based on the classic book of the same name by Jean Webster, Daddy Long Legs is musical storytelling at its very best.

It is a great pleasure to welcome Robert Adelman Hancock back to the Cabot stage playing the title role. Robert first appeared in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum back in 2000 and then spent a year as a Skylight Resident Artist. We are also thrilled to have Megan McGinnis making her Skylight Music Theatre debut in the role of Jerusha Abbott. These two performers have created these roles and have truly made them their own.

I am also very proud to announce my final season as artistic director of Skylight Music Theatre and want you to know that you are in for a treat. We open the season with the Midwest Regional Professional premiere of the Broadway hit Avenue Q, and then continue with the world’s most beloved musical The Sound of Music just in time for the holidays. Next up in the Studio Theatre the brilliant mind of Dale Gutzman brings us another fresh take on two of our favorite collaborators with Here’s a Howdy Do - The Mischievous World of Gilbert and Sullivan. Then for the first time on the Cabot stage we are thrilled to present Skylight favorite Leslie Fitzwater in Edith Piaf Onstage, a tour-de- force of the brilliant chanteuse. We follow that with the very first county music show in Skylight’s history, Pump Boys and Dinettes which the New York Times called “Both musically and theatrically a triumph of ensemble playing. Pump Boys doesn’t merely celebrate the value of friendship and life’s simple pleasures, it embodies them.” Our second Studio Theatre show brings Milwaukee’s favorite cabaret couple, Kay Stiefel and Jack Forbes Wilson to Skylight with the delightful Sing Me a Story. And we close with this unprecedented season with Gershwin’s American Folk Opera masterpiece Porgy and Bess - another Skylight premiere. Seven captivating shows and seven unique points of view - just what you have come to expect at Skylight Music Theatre…where we make your night sing!

A MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR – AMY S. JENSEN

Welcome to the Milwaukee premiere of Daddy Long Legs. I still remember Bill excitedly calling me late one evening after having seen Daddy Long Legs at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park in Ohio. He was so taken with the show and knew how perfect it would be for the Cabot Theatre that he couldn’t wait to call me. To be a part of a six group consortium giving life into this charming piece that deserves to be destined for Broadway, to bring a former Skylight Resident Artist, Rob Hancock, back to Milwaukee as a part of this production and to provide our audiences with one of the first opportunities to see this wonderful new musical were exciting and compelling reasons to bring this show to the Skylight.

The story is also a true celebration of learning and the ways in which a joy of learning can expand your horizons and forever change your life. This past summer, I heard from a friend about a mother-daughter book club to which she and her daughter belong with four other mothers and daughters. Daddy Long Legs sprang to mind immediately and I suggested that they consider selecting it as one of their books this year. They did and enjoyed it so much that they will be coming to see the show and added June Webster’s sequel, Dear Enemy, to their reading list as well. Thanks to a generous grant from Service Club of Milwaukee, Skylight has also been able to work with local libraries, the Girl Scouts and the Boys and Girls Clubs to provide copies of the book and an opportunity to see the production.

Finally, and sadly, Skylight and the entire Milwaukee community recently had to say a fond farewell to one of its greatest supporters and leaders with the passing of Harry Franke. Harry served on the Skylight Board from 1986 to 1997 and remained on our Board of Advocates until his death. Harry embodied the spirit of the story of Daddy Long Legs in so many ways - he supported the community through the Harry and Mary Franke Idea Fund, he provided scholarships to young scholars, he loved learning and was so enthusiastic about everything he did. And so, we would like to dedicate Daddy Long Legs to Harry in honor of his love of music, his love of language, his love of learning and his unwavering love and support of his hometown.

SK YLIGHT MUSIC THEATRE C IRCLE OF DONORS

Skylight recognizes and honors, with our deepest gratitude, the following individuals, foundations, organizations, businesses and government agencies who provided support to our Annual Campaign and helped us to deliver high quality music theatre productions to the Greater Milwaukee community. A special thanks to the members of the Clarion Society, who have made multi-year commitments of pledging $5,000 or more for the Annual Campaign (these members are listed as bold). Our thanks too, for the many donors of $249 and under whose gifts are vital to Skylight’s continuing success, we regret there is not space to list them all. TO THE AUDIENCE

Audience Guide…A free audience guide is generated by Enlighten, Skylight’s education program, with the help of volunteer Justine Leonard. It is meant to provide in-depth background information about the show, including information on the composer and author, source material, historical perspective on the setting, and information about Skylight directors, designers and performers. The guide is available on our website and in the lobby of the theatre.

Bad Weather Policy...Skylight rarely cancels or reschedules performances due to inclement weather, however in cases of extreme weather circumstances we may be forced to do so.

Cabaret Series...Friday and Saturday evening performances in the Cabot Theatre are followed by a free, 45-minute cabaret show in the Skylight Bar & Bistro. There is not a cabaret performance on opening night.

Emergency Contact…If you need to be contacted during the performance, an emergency number is available for your convenience: (414) 908-6645. This extension is a message center for the house manager. Please leave your seat location so we may contact you.

Food and Drink...Skylight Bar & Bistro, located on the second floor of the Broadway Theatre Center, is a full-service bar with a pre-theatre dinner menu open two hours before Cabot Theatre performances, at intermission and after performances on Friday and Saturday evenings. For dining information visit www.getindulge.com or email [email protected].

Group Discounts...Groups of 10 or more are eligible for our group discount. Make your event unique and ask about our rental spaces for a pre- or post-show reception with cocktails, hors d’ oeuvres, dinner or dessert. Please contact Rose Hebein at (414) 299-4951 for more information or to reserve group tickets.

Lost and Found...Leave a message with the House Manager at (414) 908-6645 to check if lost articles have been found.

Parking...Convenient, free or low-cost parking is available in several locations. Metered street parking throughout the Historic Third Ward is free after 6:00 p.m. and on Sundays. The Italian Community Center parking lot, three blocks east of the theatre at Jackson and Menomonee streets, is free after 6:00 p.m. and on Sundays; daytime parking is also available for a small fee. Structure parking is available for a small fee in the Third Ward parking structures located at Chicago and Milwaukee streets (two blocks east) and Chicago and Water streets (two blocks west).

Recording Equipment & Cameras...The use of recording devices and/or photography is strictly prohibited in the theatre during a performance.

Skylight’s Annual Campaign...Consists of individuals, corporations and foundations whose generous gifts allow Skylight to achieve fiscal soundness and artistic excellence. To become a donor, please contact Amy LaMacchia, Campaign Manager, at (414) 299-4953.

Skylight Insights…Join us for an opportunity to learn more about Skylight Opera Theatre productions. Ray Jivoff will lead pre-performance talks one hour before curtain for every Wednesday and Sunday performance.

Special Patron Services... A limited number of infrared hearing systems are available on a first come, first served basis. Audio description, sign language interpretation and wheelchair seating are available and can be arranged in advance by calling (414) 291-7800.

Tours...With advance notice, tours of the Broadway Theatre Center and Skylight’s production shops are available throughout the year. Call (414) 299-4972 for reservations.
