I'm not ignorant of the fact that in order for me to always be on the media, I have to spend some amount of money and the funds is not really available for publicity. But somehow we have been telling the public what we have been doing so that it will be on record.Regarding skil ls acquisit ion programs, you made mention of ICT and underwater training, are there other trainings you have had or you intend to embark on?We intend to embark on more programs. There is a major one we are looking at, that is establishing a Rivers State Youth Development Centre with the support of His Excellency. I have a technical background and with that I know that one does not need to have a University degree to put food on the table. In the proposed youth development centre d i fferent vocations would be undertaken and whoever is privileged to be there can choose any of the vocations, be it Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical and Electronics, Welding and Fabrication, Catering and a whole lot more. Those who are somewhat disadvantaged, whose parents cannot afford to send them to school can go through these

  • Mr. Ayo MesiemaYes, because I am a benefactor of a skill acquisition program. In fact, what I am doing is not what I read in school. So, if I had not acquired that skill probably I would not have had something doing today.I certainly recommend it also for parent, I know vocational education is not enough. You must have skills most especially in Nigeria today. Skills are very important.

To me, skill is more like the most important thing right now anyone can think of. Come to think of it, we have so many graduates. It is no longer the latest trend. Being a graduate is like the least certificate you can even have and if you get into the labour market you will see many of them (graduates). You have so much competition here and there, so what is your stand if you become a graduate today? I think the best thing is for you to get out there, to get involved in one skill (handwork) or the other. You could be self employed. There are so many skills you can learn out there that are really helpful and that reduce crime and other things like prostitution. So, I feel skill is very important for every youth today and I recommend it for every youth in the society.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF SKILL IN THE SOCIETY

    Nigerians speak

Mrs Egioma Eboku Yes. If he or she is old enough. It depends on the age. At the end, she will acquire more knowledge on how

to carry out these various skill like

    baking, hair dressing and others.

Charles EkonseYes, because, with the way Nigeria is now, I think somebody with skill can survive. But without skill he may be dancing around just like that. So, I will always recommend it for people and for my children.

We asked some responsible parents the question: Would you allow your child to run a skills program? Here are their answers.

    Uduka OjiYes. Because

    with technology now somebody can

have skills and he can open a shop for himself and even employ others. So, it will be good for the child.
