COSMETOLOGY INSTRUCTORS

The four Cosmetology instructors in the program are experts in the field, each bringing years of experience in their own specialties to cosmetology students at Maxwell. To stay current with cutting-edge trends and technology, the instructors have assembled a strong and very active advisory board, featuring salons, beauty schools, colleges, and business owners from the Metro-Atlanta area.

COSMETOLOGY

The Cosmetology program at Maxwell High School of Technology will provide an introduction to the arts and science of the professional career of providing beauty care for clients. You will develop skills to create and design hair-styles with cutting, shaping, and color applications. You will also learn to care for nails and skin by using different products, makeup, and by giving facials. Additional instruction is also given for relaxing the hair, giving permanent waves and removing unwanted hair. Instruction takes place in a true-to-life salon atmosphere with full salon capabilities. This program prepares you for the next step toward completing your education, at the post-secondary level, where a multitude of career opportunities as a Cosmetologist, Hair Designer, Manicurist, Fashion Designer, Esthetician, or Retail Specialist, may become choices for you.

The program begins with introductions to important terminology, math, and sciences associated with cosmetology practices. Once you have learned the importance of professionalism, and the sanitation and safety procedures associated with each the curriculum area, your training becomes more extensive. All of the above-mentioned areas include practical hands-on training. The study of government regulations, proper communication, and giving consultations to clients are also emphasized.

For aspiring entrepreneurs, salon management, including record keeping and other related business practices, are stressed throughout the training courses. You will develop the strong customer service and social skills necessary to work with a diverse population. An additional major benefit is that your time in school also earns you the professional training credit hours as required by the GA State Board of Cosmetology. Those credit hours are transferable from Maxwell High School to a post-secondary school as you continue your education and prepare for the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology examination. Passing that examination gives you a license to practice the profession of Cosmetology.
