The Australian Skilled Employer Work Sponsored Visa Australia (Regional) has been in effect. Subclass 494 isone of these visas. It replaces the RSMS Visa – subclass 187. Employers can nominate skilled workers by usingthe provisional employer-sponsored visa.
Does Subclass 494 Grant Permanent Residency?
Permanent residency is not granted by Skilled Employer Work Sponsored Visa Australia (Regional). Thefuture Skilled Regional Permanent Residence Visa - subclass 191 is available to 494 holders, which is differentfrom previous RSMS visas.

Criteria for Employers
Your employer must be in the designated region of Australia.Some of the existing regional areas include Adelaide, Canberra, and Geelong. However, certain regionssuch as Wollongong and Newcastle, along with the New South Wales Central Coast, are likely to be maderegional soon.You must be a skilled worker to get your job on the relevant occupation list. There are currently more than700 occupationsYour employer must obtain approval from the RCB (Regional Certifying Body) before you can benominated.Your current job must be authentic, full-time, and available for at least five yearsYour salary should be comparable to the market rate

While you hold a Work Sponsored Visa Australia, you can work in the designated region for three years.Three years of annual earnings. It is your partner who is included in the 494 visa application. The visaapplication only includes one partner.Your partner must be the principal applicant for a Permanent Residence (Skilled Region) Visa. However,both partners must meet the annual earning requirement.
Is Subclass 494 Visa a Permanent Residency Option?
Subclass 494 is for five years. You can apply for permanent residence (Skilled Regional Visa) subclass 191.However, before you can be granted PR, there are certain conditions.

An Approved Work sponsor must be your employer.You must be able to fulfill your chosen occupation.The nomination position must be true.You must meet certain criteria for Public Interest and Special Return.Your health and character need to meet the requirements.All requirements must be meet nomination CriteriaInclude specific criteria about the stream that youare applying for, such as having an eligible occupation, and associated position within a designatedregion area, or having been given a positive evaluation by a relevant authority. Regional CertifyingBody (RCB), etc.Specific criteria must be met for each visa stream that you apply for.

Unless you are exempt, your employer (sponsor) requires that you work in the designated occupation.You must be less than 45 years old (prescribed applicants might be eligible for an exemption).You may be required to submit a Skills Assessment unless you are exempt.Except where exempt, you must be employed in the nominated occupation for at least three years.You must demonstrate "Competent English" (prescribed applicants may be eligible to be exempt).

These Health requirements must be met.The Commonwealth and your sponsor must agree to the nomination of your occupation.Unless otherwise agreed to by the Minister, you must be less than 45 years old.To perform the duties of the occupation you are nominated for, you must have the requiredqualifications, experience, skills, and English proficiency.Except where otherwise noted by the Minister, you must have worked in your chosen occupation for atleast three years.
