4.2. ASSEMBLY OF THE PTO SHAFT
If the PTO shaft is too long itmay get pressed when thethree point hitch is lifted up.This may cause damage to thebearings of the winch or to thePTO of the tractor. The PTOshaft must not be too short inany position. The PTO lengthis suitable, if the pipes do notreach the bottom. PTO isoptional equipment.
Note!
1. Mount the winch to the 3---point hitch ofthe tractor.
2. Raise the winch high enough to get thePTO shaft of the tractor and the winch to ahorizontal level.
3. If you have a shortened PTO shaftavailable, put one end into the drive shaftand check that the distance of the lockingof the other end. Take into account theadditional clearance of approx. 20mm(0.78”).
4. Fasten the other end of the PTO shaft in itsplace and also move the winch sidewaysat the same time securing that the axisdoes not base.

7. OPERATION
7.1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Read the operationinstructions before operatingthis machine! It is the owner’sresponsibility to instruct allequipment operators andsupport personnel in theoperation of this winch.
WARNING!
1. Choose a horizontal, hard based skiddingroute for the tractor. Avoid steep slopes, especially when winching from the side.Check that the winching trail is clear andthat the tractor’s parking brake is on. Donot run the tractor at a high idle whenwinching. Maximum P.T.O speed is 540rpm. Ensure that the logs can be drawnfreely. Be especially careful when workingon slopes. Avoid winching sideways atangles exceeding 30 degrees. Usesnatchblock which is fastened to the tree ifneeded. (See fig. 23.)
2. The safest place for the operator is at theback left side of the winch, allowing goodvisibility. See fig. 21. Take care that there isno one in the working area.
3. The tractor must have a ROPS cab andfront end weights.
D Always position the tractor on a flat groundin line with the direction of the pull (seefig. 21.). Avoid working in steep terrain.Ensure nothing is blocking the path oftrees.
D Avoid an unnecessarily strong pulls, thetractor may roll over.
D Adjust the tractors rpm’s according to theconditions.
D Use a shield between the seat and thewinch (e.g. safety cab or protectivescreen) if you run the winch from thetractor seat.
D Use agreed signals when working ingroups.
4. When you use a light tractor, there is avery big risk that the tractor will roll over.To avoid that risk, you must add extraweight to the front of the tractor.

D The falling danger of the tractor can bereduced by winching through the lowersnatchblock.
Fig. 21.
Fig. 22. Do not winch sideways at anglesexceeding 30 degrees. The tractor can tilt.
Fig. 23. Use a snatchblock to avoid winchingsideways.
7.2. PRE--OPERATION CHECKS
MOUNTING AND USE OF THE LOWERSNATCHBLOCK
D Usually the logs are winched in throughthe upper pulley of the winch. This lifts thelogs and they dig less into the ground. Theweight of the load also pushes the bladeinto the ground thus anchoring the winchand the tractor to the ground.
D The winch has a lower snatchblock. Themain use of the lower snatchblock is tolower the pulling point. This enables largerloads to be skidded out . For skidding outthe load the cable is transferred to thelower snatchblock.
D Several logs can be hooked up andwinched in at one time by means ofkeyhole sliders on the cable. The skiddingchain should have a pin on the end, whichmakes it easier to pass the chainunderneath the tree. See fig. 24.
When using the lower snatchblock make sure that it followsthe direction of the cable.Otherwise the cable will bedamaged, when it is pressedbetween the snatch block andthe lower snatchblock frame.
NOTE!
When wInching an unloadedcable, make sure that thefinger guard doesn’t rise upwith cable and doesn’t causecable to crosscut.NOTE!

7.3. WINCHING
Before using the winch, youhave to pull the cablecompletely out of the drumand winch the cable back onthe drum with a heavy load.Otherwise the cable will bedamaged.
NOTE!
D Park the winch and tractor on level, stableground. Lock the brakes of the tractorbefore winching. Lower the 3--point hitch sothat the dozer blade anchors the winch tothe ground. See fig. 25.
Do not let the dozer blade sinktoo deeply into the ground, sothat the PTO shaft is notdamagedNOTE!
D Before using the skidding winch, makesure that the lower snatch block, the uppersnatch block and the finger guard movefreely.
Fig. 25. Anchor the dozer blade to theground.
1. Draw the cable to the load but avoidtwitches. Do not draw out too much cableto avoid loose spaces when the cable isreeled in.
2. Start the tractor, turn the PTO on. Use thewinch with the control rope and stand in asafe place at a distance of at least 2m (6ft)from the winch. Use the upper snatchblockwhen winching.
3. Operate the clutch firmly. Avoid sliding theclutch to avoid warming of the clutch. Stopwinching by letting go of the control ropefor the leave. The clutch will slip when theload is heavier than the selected pull. Thisprevents damages to the cable or winch.
Avoid extra large loads. The winding speeddepends on the number of revolutions ofthe tractor. Do not wind too fast.
4. Stop winching when the logs are at about1,5--3 m (5--10 ft) from the tractor. Installthe cable on the lower snatch block.

7.4. SKIDDING
Fig. 27. Cable on the lower snatchblock
1. Turn the P.T.O on. Pull the clutch controlrope and winch the logs to the pulley. Keepthe tension on the cable and pull thethinner rope that operates the brakeratchet. Stop pulling on the clutch rope first. The load is now locked in place.Alternatively the skidding chains can beattached to the notched beam.
2. Turn off the P.T.O.
3. Raise the 3--point hitch so that the logscome off ground (fig. 28.).
4. Move the logs to the desired place.
