Carpathian (West-ern Ukraine) area allocated a number of ski resorts. They can be ranged from very budget to luxury.

Bukovel

The Bukovel tourist complex is the newest and most modern ski resort in Ukraine. 120 km from Ivano-Frankivsk, accessible by car or bus.The mountains surrounding Buk-ovel protect the resort from cold winds. The complex has 14 modern lifts and trails more than 50 kilometres long, on a grass base equipped with security systems.

There are illuminated slopes for night skiing and Bukovel’s snow-boarding instructors are the best.Slopes 300-2300 m in length at 880-1240 m elevation. This makes Bukovel the most popular ski resort in Ukraine

Drahobrat

Drahobrat is Ukraine’s highest elevation ski resort. It is 1360 metres above sea level in the mountain valley of Drahobrat near the town of Rakhiv in the Tran-scarpathian region. Its slopes meet Olympic requirements and it is the only resort

open from the middle of October to the middle of May. A vacation in Draho-brat is more than skiing but also nature’s gran-deur. The windows of the Drahobrat Hotel (run by the Drahobrat ski resort) and several modern cottages on the hillside command a wonderful view of the peaks of Hoverla, Petras and Blyzniuky. The Drahobrat resort is located 18 km from Yasinya village by off-road vehicle (local “taxis”), accessible from Ivano-Frankivsk by narrow-gauge train, minibus, or taxi.Has several lifts 400-1000 m in length or drive up to 3000 m long slope.

Slavsko

Convenient location on Kyiv-Uzhhorod railroad, or a 120 km drive from Lviv.Traditionally was the most popular Carpathian ski resort; lifts on all sides of Mt. Trostyan (900-1230 m elevation) with lots of variety and all levels of difficulty; slopes 700-2000 m in length; other mountains available at Slavsko (700-1100 m in elevation).

150 km from Lviv. Get off Kyiv-Uzhhorod train at Skole, take bus or taxi to resort. Slopes up to 800 m in length with chair lift.

Secondary Carpathian ski areasThese ski areas are not resorts per sé, but gen-erally ski lifts scattered here and there. At most

ski areas there are ho-tels and private rooms available for rent in the vicinity. Maybe at some of these places full-fledged resorts will eventually be created. Equipment can be rented both from locals and at the ski slopes themselves. Infrastructure is less well-developed than at the four major ski resorts above. Accom-modations range from rented rooms in locals’ homes to European-style suites.
