Andy Blake – Ski Trip Leader

• Skied every year since 1981• Qualified as ASCL which means that

Snowsport England has assessed me for running ski trips and leading groups of students and adults skiing

• I have run family, young people and adult trips and this my third School trip from here

Equipment Hire & Tuition

Hire of skis, boards, boots and poles, helmets plus lift passes for the week are included in the cost of the trip

Ski fit, on arrival in resort, by qualified ski wtechnicians

6 days tuition by local qualified instructors in wa group ratio of 1:12

JGH HinterronachAn attractive traditional guest house which occupies a superb location on the slopes above Saalbach town.

OverviewThis family-run youth hotel is located high above Saalbach town. It offers doorstep skiing and superb views, whilst only being a 10 minute walk down into the town, and a more energetic 20 minutes back up the hill.

Guests walk or ski down (on prior arrangement with the instructors) to the meeting point in the centre of Saalbach. Beginners use the ski slope next to the ski hire, whilst more experienced skiers can take the gondola to explore the area.Facilities2 Large games roomsTable tennis / Table football

A typical day!

• A typical timetable would be breakfast (around 7.15 a.m.) students make own packed lunches after breakfast, get ready for slopes. 

• walk 10mins to the slopes, meet up with ski instructor, 2 hours tuition, meet up with rest of group and rep for lunch– normally lunch is taken outside either a restaurant or the old ski

school on one of the nursery slopes, afternoon 2 hours tuition • meet  up with group and rep, return to hotel

(15:30/16:00), showers, free time, evening meal (probably around 18:00/18:30) and then evening entertainment.

Evening activities

• Sat – get skis and sleep• Sun – games night• Mon – Austrian bowling in Saalbach• Tues – skating• Weds – Ice Hockey match• Thurs – talent show and prizes for ski

ClothesKeeping Warm and Dry!

• Essential items to pack• Ski Jacket• Salopettes / Ski trousers• 2 pairs thick socks• 1 pair ski gloves• Sun glasses and goggles• Thick pullover/fleece, plus shirts or polo necks• Scarf and warm hat• Après-ski boots or heavy shoes• High factor suntan lotion / block

• Pillow and pillow case for the journey (by coach)• Wash bag and towels Guests needed to bring their own towels • Night clothes• Several changes of socks and underwear• Casual wear for evenings including warm fleece• Short and long-sleeved T-shirts• Pair of trainers• Warm waterproof jacket• Labelled strong plastic bags for spare clothes• Plastic water bottle• Toiletries• Small rucksack for packed lunch etc.• We strongly suggest that all items are labelled with your name and the

name of the school/group so that any lost items may be returned.

Parental Approval

• Medical conditions• Home contacts• Helmet – is a legal requirement – no helmet – no ski!• Skiing in lessons only or with me

– No free skiing

• I undertake to reimburse Countesthorpe for the full costs of sending my child home, if his/her behaviour is found to be unacceptable. This includes any possession or consumption of any alcoholic drinks

• Please don’t test this rule ………. It could cost you £500

Fitness Preparation

Key points to ski training.

• Skiing/snow boarding is a physical sport

• You will be skiing for at least 4 hours per day

• Improve stamina• Suppleness/joint

flexibility• Muscular endurance• Mental preparation

Fitness Training

• Warm-up – pulse raising activity/joint mobility/stretching – 10/15 minutes

• 20/30 minutes exercise activity

• Cool-down 10 minutes slow jog/stretching

• 3 times a week

Travelling

• Arrive at College on 22nd March in time for session 2 – leave time for storing luggage

• Luggage will be stored securely in CMR• Collect luggage at 2.50 and change

clothes if necessary. School clothes can be left here.

• Meet in coach groups in the canteen area– Coach will be decided on bedroom groups

• leave Countesthorpe 3.30 pm, 22nd March
