Week 1 Lofting

Week 1 sketch book exercise is to create a functional and workable place for the Merri Creek site. I designed to create a serise of shelters with a irregular free form curves. The users can decide to sit on the shelter or under them, the free form curves also provided a nice visual pleasing shadows to the people who decided to sit under the shelter. However, the exterior roof is contrasting with those shelters in its regular form created by loft as well.

After visiting the site, I have found that people usually visit Merri Creek during the morning time and spend time on walking and relaxing untill the afternoon. There is less people walking on the trail in the evening and no one after sunset.

In this week sketch book exercise, I decided to create a geometry mesh which can provide roofing system with electrical lights across both side of the creek and it is supported by its own structure which doesn't has any extra supports. It will give an opportunity to the user visit the site during the night time.
