HISTORY
Skateboarding started in the late 1940s early 1950s when California surfers wanted something to surf when there where no waves in the ocean.
HISTORY CONT.
The first known skateboards where made out of wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels attached to bottom of the board.
PRODUCTION OF THE SKATEBOARD
After various ways of making the skateboard where invented, a certain model seemed to stick and it was decks of pressed layered wood.
PRODUCTION OF SKATEBOARDS
A number of surfboard companies started to make skateboards that looked like miniature surfboards and assembled teams to promote their products.
WHEELS
Original skateboard wheels were made out of steel and clay, but in the 1970s a company called Cadillac wheels invented a polyurethane wheel. The wheel had much better traction
DECK
The actual board itself is called the deck and in the 1970s companies experimented with different metals and plastic but the type of board that really worked the best was made of layered plywood.
SHAPE
From the 1940s to 1982 all of the skateboarding took place in pools and downhill so all of the skateboards were shaped like surfboards to make the ride easier, as the skateboarding moved to the streets and skaters started performing tricks just on the ground the design of the skateboard changed to make it easier to perform various tricks.
CONCLUSION
Skateboards have changed a lot over 60 years and the main purpose of changing the way the skateboard is shaped is to accommodate how the skateboard is used. Longboards are used for skating and carving down hill just like a surfboard, and the most recent skateboards are made for tricks and have a completely unique design.
