    Purpose The ZXA10 C220 xPON Optical Access Convergence Equipment(ZXA10 C220 for short) is a full-service optical access platform.It supports the video, data, voice, TDM, and CATV services. TheZXA10 C220 can be connected with ONUs of medium or larger ca-pacity through various networking technologies.

    The ZXA10 C220 device consists of the main control and switchingcard, xPON subscriber cards, CES uplink card, and Ethernet uplinkcard. It provides large-capacity controllable multicast and highQoS control.

    This manual provides procedures and guidelines that support theinstallation of the ZXA10 C220 xPON Optical Access ConvergenceEquipment.

    InterfacesThe ZXA10 C220 provides various types of network interfaces tomeet the device uplink requirements.

    Supports the following interfaces:

    Four GE optical interfaces

    Two GE optical interfaces and two 10 Mbps/100 Mbps/1000Mbps electrical interfaces

    Four 10 Mbps/100 Mbps/1000 Mbps electrical interfaces

    One 10GE or two 10GE interfaces

    Supports up to eight GE, two 10GE, or four 10GE interfaces.

    Supports up to two STM-1 interfaces.

    Supports up to two 32 E1 interfaces.

    SubscriberInterfaces

    The ZXA10 C220 subscriber interfaces are EPON interfaces. Theyare used for network uplink. The ZXA10 C220 supports up to 20EPON interfaces or 12 10G EPON interfaces, and 1280 ONTs.

    ManagementInterfaces

    The ZXA10 C220 control and switching card provides various man-agement and maintenance interfaces to meet the local and remotemaintenance requirements. It provides the CLI and NMS mainte-nance modes.

    Maintenance serial port

    The maintenance serial port uses the RJ-45 connector, whichcan connect HyperTerminal to perform local serial port main-tenance. When the serial port is working, the bit rate is 9600bps.

    Remote maintenance network port

    The remote maintenance network port uses the RJ-45 connec-tor. It supports 10 Mbps/100 Mbps self-adaptation and canconnect HyperTerminal to load and debug programs. It canalso connect the remote NM work station to achieve the re-mote management on the device (out-of-band NM).

    In-band NM interface

    This interface is a GE optical interface and it connects the ser-vice network in the uplink direction and connects the NM workstation externally.

    Environment monitoring interface

    This interface is connected to the environment monitoringmodule through a special cable. It can collect the environmentinformation, such as temperature, humidity, power voltage,and smog, sent from the environment monitoring module. Inaddition, the system backplane provides the fan monitoringinterface for the convenience of system management andmaintenance.

    To ensure ventilation, leave a minimum of 2U free space above thefan and under the ZXA10 C220 shelf of each unit.

    Shelf Configuration

    Shelf Structure The ZXA10 C220 shelf uses a 19-inch 6U (1U = 44.45 mm) plug-inbox.

    The shelf consists of the front and back beams, left and right sidepanels, and guide rails, as shown in Figure 5. Each shelf has 14slots, and the gap between slots is 25 mm.

    Shelf Configura-tion

    Figure 6 shows the typical configuration for the ZXA10 C220MB6UN backplane.

    The shelf consists of the 6U service card area and 1.5U cablingarea.

    6U service card area

    The service card area is used to insert service cards and controland switching cards. It has 14 slots.

    Slot 7 and slot 8 are for control and switching cards, andthis area is 6U in height.

    The other 12 slots are for general line cards, including allthe service cards and uplink cards except the main controland switching cards and power cards. The line card slotsare 4.5U in height.

    1.5U cabling area

    This area lies under the line cards and avoids overlapping thecontrol and switching cards. It is 1.5U in height and used forcabling, including the network cable, optical fiber, and coaxialfiber. Cabling brackets are especially designed for trimmingcables connecting different cards.

    Fan Tray Configuration

    Overview The TFANP speed-adjustable fan group is installed in the front out-let cabinet of the ZXA10 C220. Figure 7 shows the fan panel.

    The fan power supply uses the 3-core power cable, with one endconnecting the -48 V voltage input slot, and the other end con-necting any port of PDCC FAN1FAN5.

    Fan MonitoringConnection

    The fan can be monitored through the ZXA10 C220 or CSV. TheCSV can be configured as an accessory. Ignore it if the operatordoes not have any requirements for environment monitoring.

    The UPLINK interface of the fan is connected to the EDI interfaceon the ZXA10 C220 through ZXA10 C220 monitoring, as shown inFigure 8.

    When the CSV is used to control the fan trays in the cabinet, the fantrays are cascaded. The uplink interface of the topmost fan trayis connected with the CSV 485-1 interface. The uplink interface ofthe lower-layer fan tray is connected with the link interface of theupper-layer fan.

    In cascading mode, the interface of the fan tray works in 485 in-terface mode. Handle the S1 and S2 bit switches on the fan tray.Set S1 to OFF. Select fan IDs for S2, 1 for low, 4 for high, ON forlevel 1, and OFF for level 0. When four shelves are cascaded, eachshelf should be configured with different fan IDs. Generally, theshelf IDs are 0000, 0001, 0010, and 0100 from bottom to top.

    Core Control andSwitching Module

    The CGSD card performs the ZXA10 C220 system control and ex-change functions, including data exchange, TDM switching, systemclock processing, system control software management, protocolprocessing software management, inter-card communication, andoverhead processing.

    The ZXA10 C220 device is configured with dual GCSD cards run-ning in active/standby mode. The standby GCSD card performshot-backup for the active GCSD card.

    Service AccessModule

    The ZXA10 C220 system provides various types of services,such as VoIP, IPTV, CATV, and broadband service, throughGPON/EPON/10G EPON or CES access.

    Ethernet UplinkModule

    The ZXA10 C220 system provides the EIG, EIGM, and EIT1F cardsfor uplink. The uplink interface types and count are determinedby the configured cards.

    Air-conditioner is required in the equipment room. It is forbiddento place the equipment in any damp site. In southern areas wherethe humidity is higher, damp-proof devices should be provided;while in northern areas where the humidity is lower, antistatic floorshould be provided.

    CleannessRequirements

    Cleanness concerns the dust and harmful gases in the air. Theequipment room should meet the following cleanness require-ments:

    There is no explosive, conductive, magnetic, or corrosive dust.

    The density of the dust with a diameter over 5 m should beno more than 3 104 particles/m3.

    There is no corrosive metal or insulation-destructive gas, suchas SO2 or NH3.

    The equipment room must be very clean, and the doors andwindows must be sealed.

    Illumination The equipment room should meet the following illumination re-quirements:

    The equipment room is free from being exposed to direct sun-light to avoid aging and deformity of the circuit cards and othercomponents.

    The average light is from 150 Lx to 200 Lx without flare. Gen-erally , the equipment room is lighted by fluorescence lampsembedded in the ceiling.

    Power SupplyRequirements

    The power supply requirements are as follows:

    The equipment room is equipped with a 220 V AC power supply.2-core and 3-core sockets are available.

    The ZXA10 C220 uses -48 V DC power. The equipment roomshould be equipped with an AC/DC power transforming deviceto provide working power. The DC power voltage fluctuation isallowed to range from -57 V to -38 V.

    In order to ensure continuous working after the mains powerfailure, the corresponding measures should be taken, such asdiesel generator set and storage batteries.

    The noise level indices of DC power supply voltages shouldmeet the technical specifications of the former MPT.

    DC power supply must have over-voltage and over-current pro-tection and indications.

    GroundingRequirements

    The overall cabinet can use the joint grounding or a unified con-nection with the cabinet earth by connecting the working groundand the power ground on the power socket of the backplane, andthen connecting with the protection ground at the bottom of thebusbar.

    The grounding resistance should be less than 1 ohm.

    PowerConsumption

    Construction Check

    Before indoor cabinet installation, check the equipment room con-struction and indoor environment.

    Equipment Room Construction Check

    Check that the equipment room construction meets the followingrequirements:

    The civil work is complete and the indoor walls are dry.

    The equipment room is large enough for holding all cabinets.The door of the equipment room is greater than 2.2 m in heightand 1 m in width. The space at both the front and back of thedoor is more than 1 m. The room height is not less than 3 m.

    The load bearing capacity for the equipment floor is more than450 kg/m2. The bearing capacity for the non-equipment flooris at least 300 kg/m2.

    The equipment room can be installed with the antistatic activefloor. The floor is installed firmly with the horizontal inaccuracyper square meter less than 2 mm. The grounding and antistaticmeasures of the floor meets the requirements.

    Air conditioners are used to keep normal temperature and hu-midity.

    No drain pipe passes through the equipment room. The re-served hidden ducts and holes meet the cabling requirements.The hole size is 400 mm 400 mm. Ducts and troughs shouldbe damp-proof.

    Lighting wires and power cables are grounded and hidden.Dust-proof measures are taken to protect walls and roof.

    The anti-shock level reaches seven.

    The lightning-arrester or rod are mounted to avoid lightningstrike. All the metal pipes are grounded at the entrance of theequipment room.

    Equipment Room Indoor Environment Check

    Check that the equipment room indoor environment meets thefollowing requirements:

    Operating ambient temperature: -5 to +45

    Relative humidity: 10%90%

    The temperature and humidity are measured 2 m above thefloor and 0.4 m at the front of the equipment when the equip-ment is in operation.

    Cleanness

    Cleanness concerns the dust and harmful gases in the air. Theequipment should be installed in the equipment room wheremeets the following cleanness requirements:

    Power Supply Check

    Check that the power supply meets the following requirements:

    The equipment room is equipped with 220 V AC power supplyand both two-pin and three-pin sockets are used.

    -48 V DC power is provided with the allowed fluctuation rangefrom -57 V DC to -38 V DC. The DC power supply providespower-OFF protection measures and the storage batteries areavailable for backup.

    The cabling routes, quantity, and cabling position of the DCpower cables is compliant with the general regulations oftelecommunication projects. The specifications of the lineconductors applied, the dielectric strength, and the fusecapacity meet the design requirements.

    The power cable employed is one-piece cable without anyjoints.

    The voltage fluctuation of the mains supply does not exceed20 V, with the frequency fluctuation no more than 5%, andthe distortion rate of the cable voltage less than 5%.

    The cabling of the power supply system is exact, tidy with goodinsulation, and reasonable layout.

    Note:

    If the system has the active/standby power supply, both the powercables should be connected in correct directions. Once the cable isconnected in a reverse direction, it may cause serious short circuit.

    The power cables should be clearly separated from the signal linesand subscriber lines. In the process of laying out the power cables,make sure that the feed cables and busbar meet the medium-termor long-term expansion demands.

    Grounding Cable Check

    Check that the grounding cables meet the following requirements:

    The cabinet has the protection grounding busbar. All the pro-tection grounding and working cables are connected to thegrounding busbar. Therefore, the protection grounding busbaris a hybrid busbar for both protection grounding and workinggrounding.

    The soil type has the greatest effect on the grounding resis-tance. In an area with poor soil condition, it is recommendedto add the resistance reducer (like acrylamide) around thegrounding stub.

    Temperature also affects the grounding resistance. In northernChina, it is recommended to embed stubs deep to reduce thetemperature effect. The grounding stub is made of galvanizedmaterial.

    Use electricity-conductive cables with cooper jacket to connectthe grounding stub and equipment. Their cross section areasis not less than 50 mm2 and the distance should be as shortas possible. If necessary, take corrosive-proof measures forgrounding connectors to lower the resistance.

    Safety Check

    Check that the equipment room meets the following safety re-quirements:

    The equipment room is equipped with fire extinguishers.

    The large equipment room is equipped with the automatic firecontrol system.

    Flammable or explosive materials are forbidden in the equip-ment room.

    Other Supporting Facilities Check

    Based on the contract configuration requirements, check:

    Whether the uplink optical interface or electrical interface isavailable.

    Whether the uplink devices are ready.

    Whether the power cables for external power supplies and cab-inets are ready.

    Whether the ODF, DDF, and MDF have been constructed.

    Whether the optical fibers are prepared and whether the opticalfiber connectors match.

    Equipment room area should be spacious enough for the equip-ment operation and maintenance.

    The space reserved for opening the front and rear door shouldbe larger than 1 m.

    The space between the cabinet side and the wall should not beless than 0.9 m.

    If there are operation buttons on the cabinet side, the spaceleft should be more than 1 m.

    The equipment should also have a passage with more than 1m wide.

    Equipment Room Cabling

    Generally, the cabling in the equipment should meet the followingrequirements:

    Power cables, grounding cables, signal cables, subscriber ca-bles, and optical fibers should be laid separately.

    The cables in the same direction should be bound together andnot crossed.

    Make the cables to bend a little at their roots and at turnings.Try not to straighten them to ensure that neither the roots northe plugs are given force.

    There are horizontal cabling racks between the layers of plug-inboxes of the cabinet. Meanwhile, there are vertical cablingtroughs at a side of the cabinet. Each cable connected at theback of each layer in the plug-in box should be laid out alongthe horizontal cabling rack, and then along the vertical cablingtroughs.

    All cables must be bound with cable ties in the following manner:

    The bound cables should be arranged tidily without any obviouscrossings and twists.

    Do not bind the cables too tightly or too loosely.

    The spacing between cable ties must be consistent and varywith the diameters of the bundle, usually three to four timesof it.

    Increase or reduce cable ties according to the bundle branches.

    The cables should be bound and fixed securely at ends, bends,and crosses.

    Extra parts of the cables should be cut off neatly, without leav-ing any sharp edges.

    Before unpacking, ensure that the equipment room is qualified forequipment installation. Consider the following guidelines:

    The Equipment room building project is complete.

    The equipment room meets the requirements for installingTelecommunication equipments.

    The power supply is already available with adequate power andsufficient connecting terminals on the power distributor cabi-net. It is also equipped with necessary standby power system.

    The grounding connection is done according to the relativestandards, by connecting to the ground together, with agrounding resistance less than 1 ohm. The number of theconnecting terminals on the grounding copper busbar meetsthe equipment grounding demand.

    Prepare the following tools in advance: large and small Phillipsscrewdrivers, large flathead screwdrivers, diagonal pliers, ad-justable wrench, diagonal pliers, pliers, sharp nose pliers, in-sulation plastic tape, wallpaper cutter, electrical knife, mark-ing pen, sharp-nose tweezers, tape, dehydrated alcohol, dustproof paper, antistatic wrist strap, crowbar, and nail hammer.

    Inform the project supervisor and the relevant personnel fromthe equipment operator in advance to be sure of their availabil-ity upon unpacking. Make sure that there is enough personnelespecially for moving the cabinet.

    The ZXA10 C220 should be packed properly to avoid damage fromwater and vibration during transportation. Upon equipment arrivalat the installation site, handle it properly and protect it from ex-treme sunlight and rain.

    Unpacking the Cabinet

    Purpose Check whether the cabinet is in a good condition and whether thecabinet type is correct.

    Procedure To unpack and check the cabinet, perform the following steps:

    1. Count the total number of the goods.

    Before unpacking, it is necessary to count the number of thegoods according to the packing list attached to the packingboxes. It is recommended to keep a record of goods.

    2. Unpack the cabinet box.

    Be cautious while unpacking the cabinet. Protect the equip-ment coating and the circuit cards. Wear an antistatic wriststrap to touch and move the circuit cards and other metal com-ponents. When the equipment arrives at the destination with aconsiderably different temperature and humidity, do not openthe package until it stays for some time in order to avoid dam-age to the equipment.

    Unpack the box carefully and check the items one by one. Makesure that the goods are consistent with the order requirementsspecified by the contract, shipping list, and packing list. All thelists of equipment components and their technical documentsshould be put in the packing box.

    i. Open case 1. Check if the delivery attached documentsand the acceptance report are available. The installationpersonnel should read the technical documents, check ifany device is damaged, and then take down the results.

    ii. The cabinet is contained in a wooden case. Figure 14 showsthe case body. The cabinet is wrapped by an aluminum foilbag, and pads are used to protect the edges of the cabinet.The pads are fixed by adhesive tapes, as shown in Figure15. Therefore, abide by the following steps to open thecase.

    i. Before unpacking, place the case horizontally upwards. Usethe unpacking pliers or nail claw to remove iron corner-wrappers of the box and the nails in the cover. The un-packing sequence is: Detach the top cover > Remove thefront side plate > Remove the side plates (two sides) >Remove the back side plate > Remove the foam plates >Open the moisture-proof plastic film, as shown in Figure16.

    ii. Remove the packing material such as foam cushion andaluminum foil bag on cabinet. Hold the lower part of thewooden box and pull the cabinet slowly till it is upright.Then, drag the box out slowly until it stands steady.

    At least five persons are needed since the cabinet is veryheavy.

    iii. Keys required for cabinet are packed in a plastic bag andhung on the handle of the cabinet front door. Use the keysto open the front, rear, and side doors, to check whetherthere are complete collection of plug-in units in the cabi-net. Check cabinet cleanness, scratches, or loosened partson the surface. Make sure that the cabinet interior is cleanwith reliable socket connection and clear markings. Be-cause the plug-in units are transported with the cabinet,their reinforcing mode, installation accessories, and relia-bility should be checked carefully. Close the cabinet dooron completing the cabinet inspection.

    Unpacking the Shelf

    Purpose Check whether the shelf is in good condition and its type ismatched.

    Procedure To unpack the shelf, perform the following steps:

    1. Place the packed unit on ground and keep its face upwards.Figure 17 shows the shelf packing box.

    Unpacking Cards

    Purpose Check whether the cards are in good condition and their types arematched.

    Procedure Each card is packed with an antistatic bag (with desiccant inside).The packed card components are put in a box with foam plates inthe gaps.

    Figure 18 shows the packing box.

    Cabinet Installation FlowBefore installing the cabinet, decide the position to place the cab-inet according to the Engineering Survey Report. In case of anychange, discuss with the customer.

    Then, decide whether to install the base according to the equip-ment room floor.

    If it is the antistatic floor, install the base, and then fix thecabinet on the base. This is the base installation mode.

    If it is the concrete floor, fix the cabinet directly on the con-crete floor with press plate assembly. This is the leg installa-tion mode.

    Types The cabinet can be installed on three types of height-adjustablebases: Type A, Type B, and Type C, as shown in Figure 21. Theholes of these three base types have the same positions and sizes,but their height adjustment ranges are different.

    HeightAdjustment

    The three types of the adjustable bases have different height ad-justment ranges. As shown in Figure 23, L is the height adjustmentrange of the adjustable base, which is the height from the installedcabinet bottom to the ground. The base height can be adjustedin steps of 25 mm, together with the cabinet feet adjustment, toachieve continuous adjustment at each height section.

    The height adjustment range L of each base type is as follows:

    Type A: 160 mm210 mm

    Base Positioning

    Overview Base positioning is to fix the base on the floor in the equipmentroom. It consists of two steps: mark and drill.

    Mark According to the reference dimensions, cabinet dimensions, andthe base dimension position given in the engineering plane designdiagram, confirm the installation position of the cabinet, work outwhere to fix the cabinet by using a measuring tape, and then drawthem with a ink marker, as shown in Figure 25 and Figure 26.

    Drill Whiling drilling holes, pay attention to the following points:

    Use a 14 drill bit to drill the holes at the positions where theexpansion bolt holes are marked.

    While drilling holes, keep the drill bit vertical to the ground andtightly hold the drilling machine.

    Keep the depth of holes equal to the length of expansion bushplus cone. Keep the depths of all holes equal.

    While drilling, use a blower to remove dust.

    If the floor is too hard and smooth to locate the drill bit, youcan cut a dent at the desired position with the sample drill firstto help locating the drill bit.

    Base Installation

    Before installation, use a cleaner to clean the inside and outsideof all the holes, and then measure the space between holes. Forholes with large deviation, it is necessary to reposition and re-drillthe holes.

    Take the gasket and nut out of the expansion bolt. Put the expan-sion rod and expansion bush vertically in the hole and hammer theexpansion bolt fully into the ground.

    The expansion bolt is M12 100, which is attached to the base.

    Installing theFixed Support

    Align the two holes on the bottom of one base in the vertical direc-tion to the expansion bolts, and then fix the base on the foundationfloor firmly, as shown in Figure 29.

    Install the other base in the same way as mentioned above. Screwdown the expansion bolts and nuts, and then fix the fixed supportof the adjustable base on the floor firmly.

    The leveling washers are available in the 1 mm and 2 mm speci-fications. They are used to level the adjustable base, as shown inFigure 30.

    Installing theMovable Support

    After installing the fixed support on the ground, release the boltsconnecting the fixed support with the movable support. Adjustthe height of the movable support to meet the specified heightbetween the bottom of the cabinet and the ground.

    The height between two adjusting holes is 25 mm. Fix the boltsof the movable support and fixed support firmly after proper ad-justments. When tightening the movable support, first tighten thebolt at Mark A and then at Mark B and C to ensure a firm connec-tion between the movable and fixed supports, as shown in Figure31.

    The adjustable range of the anchor bolts on the cabinet is 0 mm25mm. It cannot exceed 30 mm. Otherwise, it may lower the cabinetstability.

    Cabinet Fixing After the adjustment mentioned above, lock the four anchors of thecabinet with four press plates, and then fix the four press plateson the adjustable cabinet base with four hex bolts, as shown inFigure 35.

    Insulation Test

    The base has insulating coats that guarantee insulation against thefloor.

    Adjust the multimeter to the resistance range to measure the re-sistance between the anchor bolt of the cabinet and the expansionbolt that fixes the base.

    If the circuit is in open state, the insulation is qualified.

    Otherwise, the cabinet is not insulated. Then, check whetherthe insulating pad and plate are installed or the insulating ma-terial is ineffective.

    After performing the insulation processing, install the cabinetagain and redo the insulation test.

    Cabinet Fixing

    Leveling Move the cabinet and place its four anchors at the positions markedfor them. If thecabinet is slanted, adjust the adjustable nuts of the four adjustablelegs of the cabinet to level the cabinet.

    Cabinet Fixing Lock the four pressure plates onto the four anchors of the cabinet,and install them completely, as shown in Figure 44. Screw downthe nuts of the expansion bolts to fix the cabinet firmly on the floor.The fastening moment of force should be 45 N m.

    The horizontal and vertical deviation should not exceed 3 mm.

    The main aisle between rows of cabinets must be alignedstraight with an error rate lower than 5 mm.

    The adjacent cabinets should be close against each other andthe entire row of cabinets should be on the same plane.

    Installing SideDecorative Panels

    Align the connection holes of the two side decorative panels withthe holes at the front and the rear decorative panels, and then fixthem tightly with screws, as shown in Figure 63.

    Figure 64 shows the installed side decorative plates for a singlecabinet.

    For multiple cabinets in a single row, just install the side decorativepanels.

    Shelf InstallationThe shelf is packed together with the cabinet. Therefore, it is onlynecessary to check whether the screws of the fixed shelves aretight and whether the connection lines are loosened.

    In case of expansion, the shelf is packed separately and needs tobe installed.

    On the two sides of the cabinet front, there are two columns forinstallation positioning. In actual installation, place the shelf hor-izontally on its bracket and push it into the cabinet. Tighten theM5 14 screw with the floating nut on the column to ensure thefirmness of all the shelves. The shelf can be fixed by four panelscrews, and can be flexibly placed in the cabinet as required.

    Figure 65 shows the shelf installation.

    Card InstallationPreparation Before installing a circuit board, do as follows:

    Remove sundries from the cabinet and the frame.

    Take out the circuit card from the antistatic bag and removethe moisture-proof bag.

    Check whether the circuit card name is the same as that onthe packing list and whether the parts on the circuit card aredamaged or fall off.

    Card Installation Each shelf is installed with a floating grounding reed, so all thecards use the same grounding cable in the shelf.

    To install a card, perform the following steps:

    1. Insert the card according to the slot name on the upper andlower beams of each shelf.

    2. Press claspers on the card and push it in until it is latched,which means the card is in place.

    Caution:

    While installing a card, wear antistatic wrist straps.

    Dummy PanelInstallation

    Because of different configurations, the shelf in each cabinet mayhave idle slots. All the idle slots are decorated with standarddummy panels. The spring reed at the back of the dummy panelcan be used to adjust the tension.

    Fan Tray InstallationInstall an empty shelf onto the columns of the cabinet. Insertthe fan tray into the empty shelf with captive screws, as shown inFigure 66.
