PATHWAYS

Page 12: SIXTH FORM MATTERS - Formby High School

Majority of Year 12 are not in school on Fridays

Rationalises remainder of working week – less free time

Monday to Thursday

Students use time to complete independent study

Students CANNOT commit to part-time work as there

will be occasions when they are required in school

BTEC Engineering students and GCSE re-sit students

still have timetabled lessons on a Friday

FRIDAY INDEPENDENT STUDY

Page 13: SIXTH FORM MATTERS - Formby High School

Progression into Year 13 will depend on students maintaining a minimum of three viable subjects in September of that year. • Where a student is making good progress in all three courses, demonstrates a positive attitude

to learning and has a good attendance and behaviour record during Year 12, s/he will be allowed to progress to Year 13.

• Where there is clear evidence at the end of Year 12, based on internal assessment and

tracking data, that a student is not meeting the standards required for the course, he or she will be offered guidance on alternative pathways.

• Similarly, issues such as poor punctuality and attendance at lessons along with concerns over attitude to learning would result in students not being allowed to progress to Year 13.

• In cases where a student is repeatedly failing to follow the academic instruction of his/her teachers or the Sixth Form team, s/he will be asked to withdraw from the course.

• Finally, the school reserves the right to remove a student from Sixth Form in the cases of serious breaches of the school’s Behaviour Policy.

• Students who take Level 3 BTEC courses must be aware that a failure to attain at least a pass grade in controlled and external assessments completed during Year 12 or Year 13 will be subject to a stringent review where a decision on continuing the course will be made based on the additional evidence outlined above.

Sixth Form Prefects

We encourage all students to become prefects, especially given that it is great to put on a CV and in a personal statement. This is because prefects are the school’s role models and come with responsibility. Students with an excellent record of behaviour, attendance and punctuality, or who are aspiring to achieve this in Sixth Form, are suitable candidate. What will Sixth Form Prefects do? Prefect responsibilities will include: representing and serving the whole school community. representing the views of Sixth Form students. promoting the Sixth Form in a positive way to pupils. setting high standards of dress, behaviour and attitude. Prefects will also share the following duties: assisting with school events such as parents’ evenings, open evenings, clubs and activities. being asked to give tours of the school to prospective parents and pupils. carrying out a lunch duty. helping to co-ordinate School Parliament meetings. leading on charity events with the charities committee. .
