SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 29, 2018

My Dear Parishioners,

Hard to believe it but this week brings to a close Andrew’s me with us this summer. Next Sunday, he returns to his family before reporng back to the seminary in late August to begin

his theological studies. Join us aer the 7:30, 9 and 10:30 AM Masses next Sunday to wish him well as he begins his last four years in the seminary!

Andrew’s me with us this summer has been a real blessing. For me, personally, it was a delight to share my priestly ministry with him: teaching, showing, sharing with him the way of priestly life. For us as a parish, Andrew brought great blessings. To give you an idea of what he did, over this summer, Andrew:

Reached out to over 500 families of our parish who for one reason or another have not worshiped with us for some me.

Assisted in teaching and preparing some of our young children to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliaon and Eucharist.

Wrote weekly column in the bullen and intercessions for Sunday Mass.

Visited the sick at home and those in assisted living facilies.

Taught a class on prayer.

And now the best news of all, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, “He’ll be back”. Andrew has been assigned to our parish for Thursdays of the coming school year! Thanks be to God!

Speaking of the coming year, our Jubilee Year is taking shape. Here’s a lisng of some coming dates. Be sure to visit our website for more detail and keep posted via Facebook and Flocknote on all our excing news!

April 23: PARISH PILGRIMAGE TO IRELAND

May 6: GOLF OUTING

Peace,

Fr. Rogers

Seminarian Says

Queson: Can you explain the part of the Mass that is the hymn of praise to God the Father before we sing Amen?

Answer: This is a really good queson. The prayer that the queson is referring to is at the end of the consecraon of the Eucharist when the Priest says “Through him and with him and in him, Oh God almighty Father, through the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours forever and ever.” Then the congregaon sings “Amen”. This part of the Mass is called The Concluding Doxology. Doxology is the Greek word for Glorificaon. The reason why it is the con-cluding glorificaon is because aer we all sing Amen, the Mass moves from the Liturgy of the Eucharist into the Com-munion Rite. What this means is that the Priest is done con-secrang the Host and we glorify God the Father for the gi of his Son. The statement “Through him and with him and in him” is one of the most essenal moments of the Mass be-cause we recognize what is actually taking place. The Mass is a presentaon of Jesus’ sacrifice and death to God the Father for the redempon and salvaon of humanity. All of us are redeemed and saved once we unify OUR sufferings to the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross. When we say Through him, and with him, and in him, we are assenng that we have united the crosses we bear, by the unity of the Holy Spirit, to Jesus’ ulmate sacrifice. When the priest raises up the host and chalice, we are literally presenng our gis (which is our enre being) to God the Father, and in turn thanking him for the presence of his Son in the Eucharist.
