Transcript of Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 22, 2018 · 7/13/2018 · the name of the donor(s) ......
St. Stanislaus Centennial News: The statue of St. Stanislaus
will be out of the church for a few weeks. It is being
repainted in preparation for our centennial celebration. The
cost will be $1,500 which will include the crafting of a new
crozier (bishop’s staff). The old one disappeared some time
ago. I suspect the top was made of plaster, as many were,
and that it was broken. He had been holding what looked
like a spear. It was actually the pole for a small American
flag. It has a plaque which reads:
“Ladies Auxiliary 2704 VFW 11-30-45”.
We are hoping to find a donor (or donors) for this project
and many others that will be published as time goes on. A
plaque can be affixed to St. Stan to remember the donor. A
larger plaque will be fashioned for other donors to centennial
projects.
One big centennial project which should be in place
before the end of summer is a granite monument of the 10
Commandments on the south side of the church between the
two stone benches and the caladiums that are just starting to
emerge from the ground. The cost is $4,200 and will include
the name of the donor(s) or “In Memory of _ _ _ _ _ _” on the
base. Interested individuals or families should contact the
rectory.
HOLY GHOST FIRE CLEANUP UPDATE (as of 7-13-18):
The following items have been started or completed during
this week.
1. The basement ceiling grid has been removed.
2. The basement structure cleaning is complete.
3. The final content items will be moved out of the
basement on Monday.
4. The areas that need to be demolished (doors, carpet,
vinyl treads, soffits and trim) are complete.
5. The heating and cooling systems are in the process of
being removed. This is extensive but we hope to
have it completed by the end of next week.
6. The west stairwell window has been repaired and the
iron bars reinstalled.
7. We continue to gather information from the suppliers
and sub-contractors to prepare an estimate.
8. Discussed with Tim Hogan the progress and issues
regarding the heating and cooling to keep him in the
loop.
9. Met with Jeff to update him on things we would like
him to help with and give him the plan for the
week. Jeff has small amount of contents to take care
of in the basement. Empty the fryer oil, remove some
food items. I also let him know that the items in the
freezer could be in jeopardy because in jobs like
these electricity gets turned off occasionally for
several reasons. He is coming up with a plan for the
freezer items. In the choir loft there are two closets
full of stuff. He will go through them to let us know
what he would like to keep. Finally, Jeff will be
getting the stencils recreated.
Next week our goal is the following:
1. Deodorize the basement
2. Seal coat the basement ceiling above the grid area
3. Start structure cleaning of the main church area.
4. Hopefully, install the new duct work in the basement.
5. Solidify the sub bids and start the estimate.
Humanae Vitae: Countering Sexual Revolution’s
Harm - The Truth About Love and Sexuality (Part 1)
(Over the next few weeks, in view of the importance of the
anniversary of “HUMANAE VITAE” I will reprint parts of an
article by Fr. Shenan Boquet, head of Human Life International –
one of the greatest pro-life organizations in the world.)
Since its foundation, Human Life International has
committed itself to emphasizing efforts to teach the truth
about contraception. This approach is based upon the belief
that the contraceptive mentality is the root cause of many of
the greatest evils of our age: the abortion holocaust, the
explosion of divorce, the epidemic of fatherless children, the
legalization of same-sex “marriage,” the advent of brutally
enforced population control programs, and more.
To many, this claim is still nothing short of absurd. The
apparent “benefits” of contraception seem to them so obvious,
and its connection to the above-mentioned evils so tenuous
that they casually dismiss that prophetic encyclical as the
backwards and repressive musings of an uninformed celibate
who couldn’t possibly understand the “real” struggles and
needs of ordinary, married men and women.
Despite the enormous amount of empirical data that has
piled up in support of each of Paul VI’s predictions, it is
astonishing how widespread this dissent to Humanae Vitae,
despite fulfillment of predictions on what would happen if
contraception became normalized. In other respects, however,
it is perfectly understandable, if only we understand the truth
about human nature, in particular the wounds that affect our
nature after the Fall.
THE BLINDNESS of CONCUPISCENCE
Before the “Fall” (Original Sin), human beings possessed
what theologians call the gift of “integrity.” What that means
is that man’s lower passions completely obeyed his reason.
Things changed after Adam’s sin, however, at which point
humans became subject to concupiscence. That means that our
lower passions are no longer subject to reason. We all
experience this reality on a daily basis, when we desire things
that we know to be harmful for us and contrary to God’s law.
Concupiscence means that we are constantly subjected to
the restlessness of our own hearts, and the illusions of our
passions. Sometimes, this restlessness results in obviously
destructive and evil behaviors – the abuse of drugs or
pornography, for instance, or violence towards other human
beings. In the pursuit of happiness, we seize upon and
relentlessly pursue the very things that make us most unhappy
and that harm others.
But such is our brokenness, that we often misuse even things
that are morally good in themselves. For instance, a man might
be so anxious to support his family by working hard (a very
good thing!), that he becomes a workaholic. If he is not rooted
in God and His truths, his anxiety about the future, or need
for affirmation from others, instead leads him to abuse a
good thing (work), possibly without his even consciously
realizing it. (To Be Continued)

Stewardship Reflection: “…come away by yourselves to a
lonely place and rest awhile.” MARK 6:31
Do you spend time, every day, alone and in silence listening to
how God is calling you? If not, you are missing out on a
wonderful opportunity to develop a more personal
relationship with Him. Unless we talk and more importantly,
listen to God every day, how else will we know how He is
calling us? Consider making a retreat this year, spend some
“alone” time with God.
Word of Life: “Through [the] loving care [of my family and
friends], they affirm what I also know—that my life is, always
has been, and always will be, worth living.’” —“Maggie’s

REFLECTION
“WHO ARE WE?” It only
seemed right as we began
planning for our 100
th
year
as a parish to ask ourselves, “who are we today?”. That
question can be answered in a variety of ways. First and
foremost of course we are the people of God. We are the
baptized who as a Catholic community are committed to
opening ourselves to the Holy Spirit and lead our lives in
praise of God and in ministry to those around us. But as we
looked at our community today the question became a bit
more practical. “Who”, exactly are the members of our parish
community. We haven’t done a parish census for decades as
far as anyone can remember … maybe never. The parish
directories we have printed from year to year continue to
include names of people who, as far as we can tell, have left
or moved out of the parish years ago.
So in April we began Step One of our parish census as we
set aside two weekends for PARISH REGISTRATION or RE-
REGISTRATION at all the Masses.
We are now working on Step Two of the project as we
cross-reference the Registration Forms we received from those
Re-Registration weekends with the names we have in our last
parish directory which was printed in 2014. When that is
finished we will have a list of names that did not register or re
-register.
Step Three we will form a group of parishioners to call
each person who did not fill out a Re-Registration Form and
ask them a) “Are you still a member of Holy Ghost parish” …
and if the answer is, “yes”, b) “We would like to ask you for
current information for our parish files”.
Here are some facts about this important project:
250 people have filled out a new parish registration form
(48 of those were not previously registered).
There are 718 names in our 2014 Parish Directory.
That means we have 468 people to call to confirm their
status in our parish.
IF YOU HAVEN’T FILLED OUT A NEW REGISTRATION
FORM YET … IT’S NOT TOO LATE!
JUST CALL TOM OR KATHY SCHULTE AND WE CAN TAKE
CARE OF IT ON THE PHONE! 402 731-3599
The parish office will be closed next week. Sorry for any
inconvenience.
Please remember to let us know if your phone or address
changes so that we might keep our records
updated. Thank you!
