Six Hour D How to get a Six Hour D: People who get a Six Hour D usually read the entire material, sometimes over and over again, without really understanding the core concepts. They may glance through it, but they never take the time to read it carefully. Other times, students highlight answers and study the answers to the questions, but never review the questions themselves without looking at the answers. Sometimes the student looks back and forth at the question and answer until they memorize it, which also leads to poor understanding. How to avoid a Six Hour D: If students read through the material carefully, then return to it a few minutes later and recall the section or answer any study questions regarding the text while blocking off the text, they should be able to avoid the Six Hour D. Studying gradually, instead of for large chunks of time right before the test, is also a good idea. My Study Techniques: Unfortunately, I am a victim of the “memorization” technique when it comes to studying. Granted, there are some things like equations, constants, and such that need to be memorized; however I usually just glance through chapters of the book we need to study, look over the problems we did for homework/did in class, and that’s it. I have been trying to avoid that and instead try to solve problems without the text, but my laziness sometimes gets the better of me. I am also better at reviewing a little bit each day, reading things over in my spare time between classes to see if I understand a concept discussed in the text. Changes: I should stop memorizing answers and instead focus on the material. Instead of skimming, I should take the time to read the chapter, even if it seems like I know the material already. Also, I will try to answer questions without looking back at the text, to see if I retained what I read.
