Swami Sivananda 1887 – 1963One of the greatest saints of modern times, and the strength behind the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, Swami Sivananda’s teachings are a synthesis of all the formal paths of yoga. He trained many exceptional disciples in yoga and Vedanta — among them, Swami Vishnudevananda, whom he sent to the West in order to spread the teachings of yoga. He authored many books on Yoga and Vedanta.

Swami Vishnudevananda 1927 – 1993A disciple of Swami Sivananda and founder of the Inter-national Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, he is a world renowned authority on Hatha and Raja Yoga and author of ‘The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga’ and ‘Medi-tation and Mantras’. Swamiji synthesized the ancient wisdom of yoga into five points that could be incorpo-rated into a modern lifestyle to provide the foundation for healthy living.

5 Points for Health and Happiness 1. Proper Exercise {Asanas} 2. Proper Breathing {Pranayama} 3. Proper Relaxation {Shavasana} 4. Proper Diet {Vegetarian} 5. Positive Thinking and Meditation

{Vedanta and Dhyana}

“Yoga aims at controlling the mind and its modifi-cations. Yoga is a perfect practical system of self-control. It is an exact science. It can help you attain healthy and flexible body and mind, ethical perfection, perfect concen-

tration and serenity of mind. “Yoga is eternal life in the soul or spirit. Yoga trans-

mutes a person into divinity. Yoga brings a message of hope to the forlorn, joy to the depressed, strength to the weak and knowledge to the ignorant. Yoga is the

secret key to opening the realms of eternal bliss and deep, abiding peace. “

- Swami Sivananda

In Japanese, the name “Ohashi” means “big bridge” -- the perfect sym-bol for someone who has devoted his life to bringing Eastern approaches of healing to the West. He originated Ohashiatsu®, a special method of touch derived from traditional shiatsu, exercise, and Zen philosophy. Ohashi came to the United States in 1970 and became the first shiatsu therapist at the Watergate Health club. But, his interest in education motivated him to start teaching, and in 1974, he founded the Ohashi Institute, a nonprofit educational institution. He and his Certified Train-ers will be offering special workshops, courses, and personal sessions throughout the year.
