BackESIGELEC has been awarded the EESPIG label (the title of "Higher Education Institution of Public Interest")

The French Education and Research Ministry (MENESR) has just awarded the Higher Education Institution of Public Interest label (EESPIG) to ESIGELEC for a period of 5 years (2017-21), via a decree dated 9 September 2016 and officially published on 29 September 2016.

This award, which was initiated by the higher education and research law dated 22 July 2013, is a label for private non-profit-making higher educational establishments that are under state contract. The goal is to highlight schools with a public-service mission and to share certain values. ESIGELEC has obtained this qualification because it fulfils the following conditions:

the ranged of courses on offer (Master's degree, apprenticeships, scientific and technological research, etc.),

operational criteria (non-profit-making association, administrative independence) social commitment (social promotion, professional integration and helping to spread humanist

culture, pro-diversity actions, international cooperation, etc.)

As Etienne Craye, ESIGELEC Managing Director, points out: "We are delighted that the ESIGELEC has obtained this qualification. The French Education and Research Ministry particularly appreciated the place given to apprenticeships, the good level of professional integration, the strong activity in contractual research, as well as the intensity of collaborative work with the different establishments, Grandes Ecoles or universities."

ESIGELEC is now one of the first 47 schools (including 26 engineering schools) that have been given this

BackESIGELEC is now part of Concours Avenir

ESIGELEC's new student numbers have progressed by 10 %.  The school now has 180 first-year students and 420 in the 1st year of the engineering course. In all, there are 1660 students in the different course programmes (Engineer, Masters, Doctorate).

This dynamic should develop further in the future, now that the school is part of the Concours Avenir, the leading entrance exam for post-baccalaureate private schools, which now includes 7 top engineering schools that are widely recognised for the quality of their courses (ECE-Paris, EIGSI La Rochelle, EISTI Cergy/Pau, EPF Sceaux /Troyes/Montpellier, ESIGELEC Rouen, ESILV Paris-La Défense and ESTACA Saint-Quentin en-Yvelines/Laval). ESIGELEC's participation in the Concours Avenir is fully in line with the school's strategic development. On 1 January 2016, ESIGELEC joined the schools in the UGEI (Union des Grandes Ecoles Indépendantes), a federation bringing together premium engineering and business schools, including the Concours Avenir schools. Pursuing this dynamic, the school wanted to consolidate its links with these schools, which share values of high academic standards, openness and ethics. ESIGELEC's geographic location and its orientation regarding "Intelligent and Connected Systems" help to broaden the range of the Concours Avenir in a logic of coherence and complementarity.

BackOver 30% of ESIGELEC students are now graduating through block-release programmes.

Each year, some 100 students benefit from the apprenticeship programme in the 1st year of the engineering course. There are apprenticeships in all 15 majors at the school, and they are not restricted to students with particular qualifications (Higher School Preparatory Classes, vocational qualifications, Bachelor's degrees, etc.). Grants are given by the Normandy Region and by companies through the apprenticeship tax. The apprentice is paid a salary during the three years of the course. Some 20 places are also available to start an apprenticeship in the 2nd year and a "Professionalisation Contract" in the 3rd year of the Engineering Course, with no limit to places.Out of a class of about 400 ESIGELEC graduates, over 30% (about 120) have taken block-release courses.

The school organises two annual events where partner companies can meet candidates: the "Bourses de l’Alternance" in May and September.

9th year of the Bourse à l'Alternance recruitment event

The 9th year of the apprenticeship recruitment event took place on 22 September 2016 on the ESIGELEC premises.

Over 80 candidate apprentices came to meet employers interested in hiring apprentices from the 1st year of the Engineering Course and/or via national "Professionalisation Contracts" in the last year of the Engineering Course.

The candidate apprentices were able to meet and make contact with 24 firms from industry, energy, I.T., services and the automobile sector, including:

ALTITUDE, ANDRITZ ASSELIN-THIBEAU SAS, ATTINEOS, AXIANS, AXIONE, BENNING CONVERSION D’ENERGIE, BET ROPTIN & Associés, CH EURE-SEINE, CLEMESSY, FEDERAL MOGUL POWERTRAIN, GROUPAMA CENTRE MANCHE, IVT SECURITY, LA POSTE, MILTON ROY, NEOTIXYS, SAP, SCOPELEC, SEINE MARITIME NUMERIQUE, SFR, SFR BUSINESS, SKF, SPIE, SPIE ICS, SSI INGENIERIE, TECHNO MAP, etc. The companies presented their vacancies and gave job interviews in the afternoon to selected candidates.

BackContractual research: the stakes for IRSEEM

The work of the IRSEEM research laboratory at ESIGELEC is developing rapidly in all 3 of its domains, "Automatic Control & Systems", "Electronics & Systems" and "Instrumentation, Information Technology & Systems", which have been conducting joint research, with an applied aim linked to the automobile, aeronautics, energy and telecommunications fields. This special relationship with companies finds concrete form through a growing number of theses that are part of the CIFRE programme. This autumn, there are 5 CIFRE conventions, 2 regional programmes (one of which is co-financed) and 2 VEDECOM doctoral candidates.

The IRSEEM research theme focused on "Cyber-physical systems in harsh environments" can be seen in particular through ongoing research contracts, and 5 new projects beginning this term (see boxed text).

The IRSEEM laboratory is also launching a project as part of the Interreg VA, which is currently under deliberation, and which it will coordinate with a consortium of 18 Franco-British partners. This project will also include a focus on the Individual Autonomy and Health programme (an issue in the silver economy).

Close collaboration is also continuing as part of the ITE VEDECOM, the FAURECIA-CENTRALESUPELEC – ESIGELEC Research Chair and the framework agreement with SAFRAN Nacelles, and soon with the BOUYGUES ES framework agreement.

Lastly, the Argos International Robotics Challenge, where IRSEEM, in association with the small business SOMINEX, won the first two rounds, is mobilising the "Vikings" team to ensure a final victory in March 2017, up against competitors from Switzerland, Japan, Austria and Spain.

5 collaborative research projects are beginning in the last quarter of 2016

BackThe BATTERIE project, winner of the Atlantic Project Award

The BATTERIE project, with the participation of ESIGELEC and its laboratory, IRSEEM, won the prize in the "Accessibility and Connectivity" category at the Atlantic Project Awards Ceremony, which took place on 27 September in Dublin.

The Atlantic Project Awards were given to five projects (one winner in each category) as part of the Atlantic Strategy and matching the priorities of the Atlantic Action Plan, in recognition of remarkable performances in the relevant fields and sectors. In addition, the goal of the awards is to increase awareness of the Atlantic Strategy and the Action Plan even further.

The Jury of six judges, including representatives from the European Commission, the Atlantic Strategy Group, the world of science and the economy, examined projects according to such criteria as strategy, innovation and practical application, in line with the main priorities of the Atlantic Blue Growth plan.

The general aim of BATTERIE (Better Accessible Transport to Encourage Robust Intermodal Enterprise) was to provide potential improvements to the quality of transport in the Atlantic area by optimising inter-modality in terms of road, rail, sea and air transport. Basing themselves on how the current inter-modal networks operate and the impact of smart technologies and alternative energies, the BATTERIE partners developed scenarios and models of behavioural changes and of national and European policies, and set up transnational pilot networks.

IRSEEM, the ESIGELEC laboratory, was in charge of work package 4, which dealt with intermodal practices in transport in the Atlantic area.

studies in Colombo.

The preparatory course programme is based on the Integrated International Preparatory Course at ESIGELEC in Rouen. The course in Colombo will be given in English, but intensive lessons in French throughout the course in Sri Lanka will enable students to acquire the level needed to follow the Integrated International Preparatory Course at ESIGELEC in France in good conditions. ESIGELEC will be in charge of the programmes, assessment, selection and admission of students to this Preparatory Course, and will work in close cooperation with the teaching and administrative teams of the AIC to make a success of this new and unique course in Sri Lanka.

With its Integrated International Preparatory Course in Rouen, the creation of three joint Preparatory Courses in Senegal (2004), Cameroon (2006), and Benin (2008), then the launch of two Joint Adaptation Courses in Shanghai (2012) and Hangzhou (2016) in China, this new preparatory course in Sri Lanka underlines once again the post-baccalaureate orientation of ESIGELEC, both nationally and internationally.

We wish great success to the eight students in this first class year in Colombo!

BackA practical guide for non-sexist visual communications designed for those working in the communications field and for journalists.

As part of the 2013/2018 convention drawn up by the Regional Prefecture to promote equal opportunities in the education system between boys and girls, men and women, ESIGELEC has played an active role in the working groups, and in September 2016, the school hosted an event to launch the guide to "Best practices for avoiding male/female stereotypes in visual communications" in the presence of Prefect of the Normandy Region and the Rector of the Academy of Rouen.

On this occasion, Benoît MONTALAN, lecturer in social psychology at the University of Rouen, gave a presentation about male/female stereotypes in communications.

The guide was presented by the Regional Direction for Women's Rights and Equality (DRDFE) and the Rouen Education Authority. Its aim is to develop non-sexist visual communication by identifying male / female visual stereotypes. It is aimed at anyone whose work is involved in visual expression and communication. It is a complement to the first guide that was published in 2014 and devoted to written communication.

The two guides are available here:http://www.ac-rouen.fr/medias/fichier/guide-bonnes-pratiques-volume1_1474885040252-pdfhttp://www.ac-rouen.fr/medias/fichier/guide-bonnes-pratiques-vol-2_1475052757231-pdf
