Student Selection Criteria

2009 Program • 40 students selected• 1200 applications

Passionate aboutGrand Challenges

Show a thirst and commitment to address humanity’s grand challenges and opportunities

2010 Program • 80 students• 1600 applications

Students are selected based on three criteria:

Top in their field academically

Students are selected into 1 of the 10 Tracks and must be in the top of their class

Demonstrated Entrepreneurs/Leaders Students must be demonstrated entrepreneurs or leaders (having founded companies, research projects and/or organizations)

1. Poverty – strategies to bypass barriers to wealth creation and reform systems in order to promote improved living

2. Energy – provide low-cost and abundant energy to meet needs of humanity and to enable prosperity

3. Education – unprecedented opportunity to accelerate learning and provide access to education

4. Security – seek personal and global security for citizens of all nations in a harmonious way

5. Space – utilize vast material resources and the potential of networked sensors for measuring critical global conditions

6. Global Health – provide ubiquitous health care and simultaneously identify and mitigate pandemics
