WHY SINGAPORE?
Singapore’s maths
results are the highest in the world.
Their programme is now used in over 40 countries
including the United Kingdom and the United States.
REASONING
Reasoning is
fundamental to
knowing and doing
mathematics.

It’s about thinking like a mathematician”
Reasoning requires children to
develop their thinking skills and
involves problem solving. There is
never just one way to achieve the
correct answer.
APPROACH
● A highly effective approach to teaching
maths based on research and evidence
● Uses concrete, pictorial, abstract (CPA)
process to develops a deep and
sustainable understanding of maths.
● Builds students’ mathematical fluency
without the need for rote learning
● Pupils learn to think mathematically as
opposed to reciting formulas they don’t
understand.
● Teaches mental strategies to solve
problems such as drawing a bar model.
How we have adapted
• Two even sessions of 30 minutes with a 15 minute intervention slot
• ‘Keep Up’ not ‘Catch Up’ interventions in the middle of the lesson.
• Expectation that we are all on the same journey and learning the
same things together.
