Transcript of Sin Corrupts Sin had engulfed Saul, that Saul was afraid of the giant. Saul had lost his faith in...
Sin Corrupts
• Sin had engulfed Saul, that Saul was afraid of the giant.
• Saul had lost his faith in God.
• Saul had sinned and lost his favor.
None in Israel had faith
• Each army stood opposite each other for forty days. No telling how long this would have continued if David had not offered to fight the Philistine
News travels fast
• As soon as David asked questions and inquired about the reward for defeating the Philistine, news came to Saul, and Saul sends for David.
• David agrees to fight not for Saul or himself, but for God, because of what Goliath had been saying.
David had faith
• David slew the lion
• David slew the bear
• And with God’s help would have no problem with the Giant
We must wear our own armor
• Saul offered his armor, but remember that Saul stood head above all the others, so his armor must have been 4x, and David was probably a medium. It was too much.
• David chose his own armor.
• A stick, five stones, and his sling
Do not under-estimate your opponent
• Goliath was laughing inside that the champion of Israel was a youth.
• I wonder what kind of odds Vegas would put on this battle?
• Do we under-estimate Satan?
All things are possible with God
• I come in the name of the Lord
• The Lord will deliver you into my hands
• Before this day is over, everyone will know that there is a God in Israel because God has already won the battle. It belongs to Him.
People do not keep their word
• Remember the agreement was that the losing side of the loser of the challenge would become the servants of the other.
• The Philistines saw their champion dead, and they fled.
• The Israelites pursued them and killed many of them.
Conclusion
• Just think of the lessons learned from this one chapter. Imagine the lessons learned if we read more of God’s word.
