Jamaica – The Postal History

This collection of Jamaica Postal History represents one of the finest in existence today. Items included in this collection have come from many important collections including Surtees, Britnor, Latham, Heart, Macoy, Topaz, Cameron, Tatham and Raine. Portions of this collection have been exhibited and have won numerous awards including a large silver at the International London, England 1980, gold medals at Stampex England 1975 and the grand award at both the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada and Stampex Toronto. It is an honor for us to be able to offer such an important collection to our customers. Many of the items in this collection are unique or extremely rare. The handstamp strike, in most cases, represents the best quality available to the market. We believe the manuscript town section to be the finest in existence today. We are most pleased to receive consignments of specialized and superior quality collections for inclusion in upcoming Sissons Auctions. We are now accepting material for our Spring Auction. KEY TO TERMS USED IN THE DESCRIPTIONS

The order of this Auction and catalogue notations are taken from 'Jamaica The Postal History 1662-1860' by Thomas Foster (1968). Indications of quantities known, in most cases, relate to the information given by Foster. The following is a listing of terms used in our descriptions.

QUALITY OF STRIKE

* FAIR - Light or watery strike

** GOOD - Easily discernible strike *** FINE - Clear sharp strike

**** EXHIBITION - As ideal a strike as possible In some cases an exhibition quality strike, on some items, may range from Good to Fine but may represent the best available of the strike.

RARITY OF THE STRIKE

A notation as to the scarcity of a strike will follow the listing and is an indication of Foster's estimates of the quantity of the strikes available per page 63 of his handbook.

VR - Indicates very rare plus the number indicates the quantity known.
