When does knowledge begin?By the time we start grasping the whatness or
quiddity of the object.
When the mind grasped the quiddity, the mental act is called simple apprehension or intellection. This is the rational act of knowing a person.

PhantasmA product of the imagination, it is a sensible
and concrete image of an object.

Simple ApprehensionAlso called intellection.Is the mental act of interpreting the imagined
phantasm, putting image into it. Its product is called concept or idea. The mental process by which we grasp the
general meaning of a thing without affirming or denying anything about it.

Example 1: Sense: I hear something loud.
Sensation: The loud noise arouse my instinct to hear.

Imagination: I imagine what this loud noise could be.
Sense image: I know sense the image of the loud noise.
Phantasm: The result of my imagination is a loud noise you could hear on the streets.

Abstraction: My mind now sees the essence of that unique sound of a person’s voice by disregarding the accidental features. My knowledge now understands what is the loud noise I hear.

Concept/Idea: The mental representation of the loud noise is a person speaking through a megaphone.
Term: I now express this idea by writing, drawing or saying “A speaker”.
