Lily Allen - Smile

We liked the idea of using a bedroom as we thought it would make the character in the video seem relatable to the audience.

Both shots show a mid shot/close up of the singers sat on a bed.

Kelly Clarkson – My Life Would Suck Without You

These shots are very similar. Both show the singer performing on a stage against a dark background. There’s bright lighting in both shots which enhances the performance and makes the singer stand out even though they’re both wearing dark clothes.

We wanted to include a performance scene in our video as a lot of the other scenes mix narrative with performance, but this one is just plain performance. The full length shot of Emma means that you can familiarise yourself with the setting. Performance shots also give music videos the celebrity edge which is exciting to the audience.

Katy Perry – Hot n Cold

These shots are similar in the way that they’re both close ups of the girls singing. They’re also both pictured with a microphone which creates the excitement of a concert and adds the element of star quality.

We liked the close up in a performance scene as we feel it adds emotion to what is being sang. We were unable to add a bright background like Katy Perry’s video as it was too difficult! But the lighting we did use make Emma stand out against the dark background.

Lenka – The Show

Although our video uses a mid shot of the two girls sat on the bench, its still very similar to the idea from Lenka’s video. Both shots are quite bright and natural looking.

Using the bench was a last minute idea, we were filming at Emma’s house on a sunny day and thought we’d make the most of the weather opportunity so moved outside! The garden in the background is a very pretty looking effect and also relates well to our target audience as young people spend a lot of time outside.
