SmileY DAY!
At the end of this Parsha we have the rules of the Korban Tomid - the daily offerings, and the Korbonos Mussaf - the additional offerings for special days. Each year, Parshas Pinchos is read during or just before the
“The Three Weeks” as we call them. The Sefas Emes asks why the Chachomim
set it up that way - that we should read Pinchos during “The Three Weeks” (so much that on certain years we double-up Parshios to ensure it is this way).
He explains as follows: We know that while the Kohanim did the “Avodah” of the offerings, the Leviyyim would sing and play music. The Gemara tells us that this “Shira” - song, was an important part of the Korbonos - offerings. The Sefas Emes says that by including the voice, the Korbon-offering has all three parts one can have of a Mitzvah. These are - “Machshovo” - thought, “Dibbur” - speech and “Ma’aseh” - action. The Kohain must have proper thought and
prepare the offering as prescribed, but there must also be “speech” - the song of the Leviyyim.
This explains what the Leviyyim said with the coming of the Churban - destruction, and the stopping of the offerings, “How can we sing the song of Hashem” outside the Mikdosh, because they knew how important were the words they sang - as they elevated the Korbon. Thus, the sages arranged that today we should be “saying”, that is “layning” about these Korbonos at the time of the anniversary of the Churbon, to awaken us to remember the Korbonos and long for their re-introduction. We know that this “saying” is considered as a “Korbon” today especially considering what we just learned. So we hope that the effect of this “layning” of the Korbonos” at the time we think of the Mikdosh - will help us pray and improve our ways to bring the re-building of our holy Mikdosh, may it be soon.

What’s for lunch next week?
So here is the scoop on our second most incredible week with a cherry on top: During one of the hottest weeks in history, we had snow! “Snow in SDC?” you may ask!? You betcha! That’s because the snow cone machine was pumping out icy snow cones all day to keep the campers cool, at one of our greatest events. Hot on the heels of a relaxing July 4th, our super-excited campers steamed off the buses to be meet with an incredible sight! The SDC Carnival Extravaganza had taken over our camp! I thought I heard some left over fire-crackers, but in fact it was the 10’s campers, sliding alllll the way down the 58 foot slide. (That’s taller than our 4 story building by the way) Awesome! That’s a long way down. They also enjoyed a Dragon Bouncy House, Watergun Maze, spinning twisty knock down thingy, the Eliminator challenge, the Wrecking Ball and other rides and activities. It was hard to pull the boys away for lunch! Ok, Ok. Truth be told the counselors didn’t really want to leave. (Neither did this Scoop Reporter). Unfortunately, the rest of the divisions also needed to enjoy the Carnival, and they did. In the words of one happy and soaked camper, “SDC Carnival ’18 rocks!” An extra special thank you to the CITS, led by Rabbi Bornstein, who ran all of the rides at the carnival. Rabbi Bornstein, you deserve a few days vacation. How about a 2 day overnight?
On to our second scoop with sprinkles: Every Friday, the 10’s end off their week with a special Erev Shabbos Oneg let by their Division Head. Rabbi Posnick gives out the Camper of the Week awards, along with many special prizes for boys who show good behavior and achdus within their bunk and by sports. An exciting story is then told and the week ends with everyone wishing each other a great Shabbos! The 20’s also Oneg, with Rabbi Polter giving out awards and telling a story, ending the week with comradery and ruach.
Scoop number three with chocolate syrup takes us to the 30’s Division, who were quite the Active Kidz this week. They enjoyed laser tag, bowling, bouncy houses, and a tricky obstacle course. Not to be outdone, the 40’s were bouncing around in Bounce, especially in the trampoline zone.
Major scoop alert with whipped cream!: This week heralded the long awaited start of Leagues!!! Each boy is assigned to a team and they go head to head to see who the champion will be. The teams will be working together to name their teams and leagues.
In the Senior Division, the 50’s went fishing. The boat was awesome, and the campers caught fluke, stingrays, and some seaweed (unfortunately, there was no sushi inside). The 60’s and 70’s went to Country Fair – an amusement park with go karts, batting cages, mini golf, a driving range, and more. On the bus ride, B71 had a trivia contest, made up by the campers themselves. They came back to join the 50’s for a rocking late night with swimming and a BBQ.
What is that special shaded box on the calendar? Ahhh! An Overnight is coming up! Yes, indeed. The Senior Division and CITS will be going to Lake George this coming Wednesday and Thursday. The Scoop will bring you all of the action in the next edition. Stay tuned.
Of course, we cannot end off without one final scoop – that would be a delicious scoop of slurpees from Seasons Express, our Juniors sponsor. The lucky bunk winners from the weekly Poweranking Points boarded buses today and got their own, yes their very own slurpppppeeeees! Yummy! Time for a refill! See you next week, same time, same place, different scoops.
Have a Simcha-dikeh Shabbos!
