SealingUsing BOSS® 310 RTV Industrial SiliconeSealant in sealing applications followsapproximately the same step-by-stepprocedures as outlined for bondingapplications. After preparing the surfaceand priming where required, the sealant isapplied by forcing it in the joint or seam toobtain full contact between sealant andsurfaces.

SPECIFICATIONSBOSS® 310 meets performance require-ments for the following: Federal Speci-fications TT-S-001543A, TT-S-00230C andASTM C920-95.

CAUTIONDIRECT CONTACT OF UNCURED SEALANTIRRITATES EYES AND MAY IRRITATESKIN. OVEREXPOSURE TO VAPOR MAYIRRITATE EYES, NOSE, AND THROAT.Avoid eye and skin contact. Use withadequate ventilation. Do not handle contactlenses with sealant on hands. IN CASE OFEYE CONTACT, flush eyes with water for15 minutes. Obtain medical attention. INCASE OF SKIN CONTACT, remove fromskin and flush with water. Sealant releasesacetic acid (vinegar-like odor) during cure.KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN.

HOW TO USEApplying the Material: Tack-Free TimeBOSS® 310 RTV Industrial SiliconeSealant is supplied ready-to-use. Underpressure it flows readily from its container. The paste-like consistency makes it easyto work; a spatula or wooden paddle canbe used for tooling the surface.

The cure progresses inward from thesurface. At conditions of at least 77°F (25°C)and 50% relative humidity, the sealant formsa tack-free skin within 20 minutes. Toolingis not practical after this skin begins formingand should be completed within 5 to 10minutes of application, even though thismay require alternate periods of applyingand tooling. Likewise, if masking tape hasbeen used to mark off the area, it shouldbe removed before the tack-free skin forms.

Cure TimeCure time is affected by relative humidity, degree of confinement and cross-sectionalthickness of the sealant. Sections up to 1/8”thick become rubbery solids in about 24hours at room temperature and 20 percentrelative humidity. Less moisture contentreduces it slightly.

In applications where BOSS® 310 may bepartly or totally confined during cure, thetime required for proper cure is generallylengthened by the degree of confinement.Metal-to-metal bonds should not overlapmore than one inch. Every applicationinvolving confinement during cure should bethoroughly tested before commercialization.

The odor given off during cure is due tothe liberation of acetic acid. This odordisappears as the cure progresses, and isnot detectable after the cure is complete.

Bonding1. Thoroughly clean and degrease metal

and plastic surfaces, then rinse allsurfaces, except plastic, with acetone.Rubber surfaces should be roughenedwith sandpaper, then wiped with acetone.Follow the precautions given on solventcontainer label.

2. For stronger, more uniform bonds, applya thin film of A-120 prime coat to allsurfaces except rubber and siliconerubber. Allow to air-dry for 30 to 45minutes at room temperature. (Fullinstructions are provided with the primecoat.)

CAUTION: A-120 prime coat is flammableand has no FDA status. Keep away fromheat and open flames. Use only withadequate ventilation.
