Fair Description

Silicon Valley Contemporary is the first fine art fair in this region. It will present important fine art from 1960s to the present. The Fair will showcase 60 well-established as well as up-and-coming contemporary art galleries from around the world, set to international production standards with 12 ft. high walls.

Welcome to the First Art Fair Ever in Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley Contemporary (SVC) will open up the art world to a region the rest of the country refers to as the “final frontier in America”–a world famous, sophisticated, highly-educated and multi-cultural region of 3 million people. SVC will bring the first major arts and cultural event to the peninsula, making fine art more accessible to the residents of this exclusive region.

What’s Planned for 2014

• Opening Night Preview, benefits the San Jose Museum of Art

• Arts Patron of the Year + Lifetime Achievement Awardee Ceremonies

• Museum Curators Weekend Retreat

• Expert-led tours for executives and investors from leading companies

• The Silicon Valley Modern Home Tour, showcasing the most spectacular homes in the Valley

Participate in an Art Fair 2.0

When in the land of innovation, innovate. SVC 2014 will introduce many Silicon Valley-originated technologies and sensibilities to the art world, helping to define SVC 2014 as the Art Fair 2.0 experience. These new approaches are designed to help widen the base of buyers and stimulate art buying over the traditional art fair model. It will also create international media buzz about the Fair. These will include:

• The Google Glass VIP Tour Experience- An art world premiere

• An opportunity for collectors worldwide to reserve a specific artwork to be shown at SVC, a week prior to Fair’s Opening.

• A wall-mounted tablet computer in every booth with the gallery’s complete artwork on display, artist bios and sales information and related info, for easy and immediate fairgoer perusal and comprehension.

• Urthecast Presents: The first Near-Live HD video presentation of Earth shot from the International Space Station orbiting the planet–to induce shock and awe.

• The 2014 Mobile Photography Award first-time exhibition and eye-popping live demos.

• Showcasing the most cutting-edge video installations in the world.

• Rhizome’s art+tech expert discussion

• A favorable terms financial loan to cover booth fees for every gallery participant (credit line pending) and a financial loan for every fairgoer to purchase art at the Fair, (credit line pending).

DEFINING STATE-OF-THE-ART

THE REGION’S FIRST INTERNATIONAL FINE ART FAIR

Silicon Valley is the only place on Earth not trying to figure out how to become Silicon Valley -Robert Metcalfe, co-founder of Ethernet and founder of 3Com

Why Now

1 As Silicon Valley matures, it becomes more Main St., although still evolving, vast wealth is being realized continually, which is a phenomenon not found anywhere else in America.

2 Well known as the technology innovation center of the world, the City of San Jose Office of Cultural Affairs and Team San Jose have partnered with the Fair in efforts to make SVC the region’s premier visual arts and cultural event.

3 The City of San Jose (10th largest in the US) is the cultural center of Silicon Valley with over 3 million residents, three art museums, a ballet company, a symphony and a major performing arts center.

4 The City of San Jose has an NHL team, the San Jose Sharks and the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers are moving to the Valley in August 2014. Silicon Valley will host the 2016 Super Bowl.

5 The Fair will be held at the best possible site for this event, the San Jose McEnery Convention Center, which recently underwent a dramatic $120 million expansion installing “The Idea Tree,” the cutting-edge of art and technology, as it prepares to host SVC 2014.

6 Many of the leading corporations in Silicon Valley are exploring and redefining the world of art and photography.

7 Many of the region’s corporations and venture capital firms, including Facebook, are starting and building fine art collections and some are even opening galleries in the offices.

8 A February 26, 2013 WSJ article, “The New High-Tech Donors” created considerable buzz in the art world, stating Silicon Valley power players are beginning to collect art.

9 Silicon Valley is comprised of several wealthy communities including 6 of the top 10 most expensive cities in America to buy a home are in Silicon Valley: Los Altos (average listing, $1.7 million), Saratoga, Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Los Gatos and San Carlos.
