Exelis Signal Sentry 1000 is a GPS interference detection and geolocation solution that includes a set of sensors connected to a server running software to enable 3D geolocation of interference sources. It provides a web-based visualization tool to support timely and effective actionable intelligence.

Signal Sentry 1000 provides 3D pin mapping of interference sources— the longitude, latitude and altitude data is available through an easy-to-use web enabled graphical user interface. It is ideal for monitoring a location where security threats could exist such as airports, sea ports and train stations or at any event where a large number of people congregate— such as major sporting events, festivals, parades or the Olympic games.

Exelis worked with UK-based Chronos Technology on this solution. Chronos applied their learning from the GAARDIAN and SENTINEL research programs, partly funded by the Technology Strategy Board—the UK’s innovation agency supporting business-led innovation. These programs helped quantify the clear and present threat of GPS jamming; Signal Sentry 1000 leverages the sensor technology that emerged from the research.

In addition to longitude, latitude, and altitude, GPS provides a critical fourth dimension—time. Each GPS satellite contains multiple atomic clocks that contribute very precise time data to GPS signals. This enables time to be determined within a 100-billionths of a second.

Precise time is crucial to a variety of economic activities around the world. Financial networks, communication systems, and electrical power grids all rely on precision timing for synchronization and operational efficiency. Major investment banks use GPS to synchronize their network computers located around the world. Base system includes 1 server, software and 10 sensors with antennas. Each sensor should have access to the internet. Also included is a site survey to determine the optimum number and placement of sensors and installation of the system.

The system operates on a standard server running Red Hat Linux and is included as part of the solution.

coverage

Base systems provides approximately 1 mile (1.6093km) x 2/3 mile (1.0729km) coverage. Desired signal strength to be monitored and topography may impact the system coverage. The solution can be adjusted to meet requirements.

One year, full system.
