CONTENTS

1. March (Rasmus Storm nr 13)

The Rasmus Storm manuscript dates from 1760 and is in the

Royal Danish Library. During the lockdown of 2020 we had fun

exploring his tunes, many of which were published in Nick’s

nodebog.

2. Murchy (Rasmus Storm nr 14)

This tune has made its way into English sessions as the “Funen

March”. Funen is the area of Denmark where Storm grew up.

3. Agoriad y Blodau

Translated as The opening of the flowers, this is one of three

Welsh tunes that we play as a set. This tune is attributed to

harpist John Roberts (1816-1894).

4. The Height of Cader Idris

This tune was published in Two Hundred and Fifty Welsh Airs

for a Shilling by Davidson’s Musical Miracles, 1859.

5. The Imperial Quickstep

We were taught this tune by Chas Marshall. It was published in

the O’Farrell Pocket Companion for the Irish or Union Pipes,

Volume II in 1806.

6. Adele’s Delight

Written by Colin Hulme, this tune is a favourite at the

Harrogate Tap and Spile session.

7. March of St Timothy

This North American tune was written in 1985 by Judy

Morningstar of the Ruffwater Stringband.

8. Malthouse Hornpipe

This tune is to be found in the 19th century East Anglian

manuscript of William Clarke of Feltwell.

9. Stybarrow Crag

Every time we find a William Clarke tune that we like we seem to

find a partner for it in the manuscript books of Lakeland fiddle

player, William Irwin.

10. Round the World for Sport This version is from the Yorkshire manuscript book of Joshua

Jackson, dated 1798. Unlike some versions, there are only two

parts.

11. I’ll Touzel your Kurchy This is another tune from the Jackson manuscript. In the words of

Anahata: “old English tousle meaning make untidy and kerchy,

short for kerchief which is a square piece of cloth used as a head

scarf. The tune has an alternative title Rustic Courtship, which

suggests that the title means rather more than it says...”

12. Carol’s Waltz Composed in 2018 by Nick at the birthday party of Carol

Klemperer.

13. Vidars vals

This waltz was composed by Vidar Skrede, a Norwegian hardanger

fiddle player.
