ThisisthesecretforthegrandsuccessoftheHinduTempleofGeorgia,whichisasurprise, jealousandalsomysterytolotofotherpeople.Whilemanyarewell aware that that finding a temple or organization withoutpolitics is veryhard, I takepride in sayingthatIhaveestablishedtheHinduTempleofGeorgiaasauniquetemplewithnopolitics.

I know of many community associations who arestruggling with keeping the organization together.There are constant issues like group politics,membershipissues,etc.Whatstopsamembertopayaminimal subscription feewhile the incomeof theindividualismorethan$70K?

WhereisthetrustintheTrustee?It’sadisgracefulthatleading members of the organization is not truthfuland loyal. It’s a dishonor when I had to consult a

leadingmemberofawellknownorganization,whodid malpractice in his own medical profession andcheated his business partner. There are some morethatevenhavecriminalcasesagainstthem.Itagaingoesbackto,whatyousow,soshallyoureap.

Being a Siddhar, I always say that you need tounderstandyourself,beforeyoutrytomakesomeonetounderstand themselves.That’swhyit issaid inafunny way, that the only thing you get very easilyand freely are advises. However, the people givingadvises,howmanyarereadytofollowthesamebythemselvesisaquestion.

Always negative people think negatively, speaknegatively,andreactnegatively.It’snotawonderthattheirlifeturnsouttobenegative.Ihavewrittenveryclearlyinmylastmonth’seditorial,that,wecametothiswonderfulnationtolive.Soliveproperly.

Everyday, we get many phone calls and e-mails toenquire about the extension of the present HinduTempleinNorcrossGA.LetmegiveyouthefutureplanningoftheHinduTempleofGeorgia!According to Atharva Veda, the Balalayam(YoungTemple)needs tobe inplacefor10Mandalam(480days).Only then,wecouldgo for themainShrine/Temple.At theendof the10Mandal(480days) theconstructionofthemainMandirwouldgetstarted.At present, the Hindu Temple of Georgia owns 10AcresoftopnotchcommerciallandintheverycentrallocationofGeorgia,withtheexistingtemplefacilityinapproximate50,000sq.ft.

I am getting lot of constructive feedback from thetempledevotees tohold the108Shivji inNorcrossinstead of Carrollton, GA. The temple board hasfinally decided NOT TO MOVE the 108 Shivji to Carrollton.However,ascommittedonemoreHindutemple would get constructed in Carrollton, GA

to facilitate theWest Georgia Indian Residents andAlabamaResidents.

TheplansfortheMassive33000sqftHinduTempleisalmostdone.Attheendofthe10th Mandalam(480 days), the construction of themain Mandir will be started. I should thank MrJeykuamr and Mr Vincentraj for their timely co-operationtotransformthisventureontime.AlsotheTemple land inNorcross isgoing tohave22000sqftShoppingmallverysoon.ThismayincludeIndianGroceryStore,apureIndianVegetarianRestaurant,Fast food restaurants, Beauty parlor, Travels,NaturopathycenterandGift/Handicraftsstores.Also,anewcommunitybankcomingupinNorcross,GAhasalreadyreservedtheholyplacefortheirbusiness.However,thereisnocommitmentorpromisesfromthe Hindu Temple of Georgia for the allocation oflandyet.

The newly acquired land of 120 Acres by HinduTempleofGeorgiainCarrolltonhasalreadyaplaceto start the worship. 7 full time dedicated pundits/Pujaris will be allotted for the Carrollton HinduTemple.Boardmembersandthegoverningbodyofthe Hindu Temple of Georgia are taking necessaryactionstostarttheservicesofthetempleverysoon.Most probably by September 2007, the CarrolltonTemplewillstartitsservices.AlsoawellrenownedJain community leader is meeting with me on July12th,tolookforprospectsofthebiggestJainMandirinCarrollton,GA.

The108ShivjiscomingupinNorcross,GA, in thenew extension of the Hindu Temple of Georgia isgoingtobethehistoryintheHinduLineageandthetempleisexpectingthousandsofvisitorsandtouristseveryday,after the inceptionof thegreat108ShivMurthismadeofPanchaloka.Thetotalweightofallthe108ShivaMurthiswouldbe approximately3.5tones.ThestatuesaremadewiththemajormixtureofGold,SilverandCopper.

Asweeveryoneknow that, this isgoing tobe the1st and only Shiv Temple/Mandir in the Hindulineagewith108Shivji(notdancesofShivaorShivalingam).

Also I invite every one to be the member and a

trusteeintheHinduTempleofGeorgia,freewithnomembership fees orTrusteeship fees. PambaattiSiddhar:Inthisweek,wecananalyzeafewversesof

PambaattiSiddharandhowithelpsustohaveaspiritualwayoflife.Asapoet,heisnotcontemptible(deservingtobetreatedwithcontempt). He has a facility of expression and an imaginative fla-vourinthought.Heholdsthatthosewhohavenofeelingofloveintheirheartscaneverattainsolvation.HisGodvisionispicturedin a fine stanza. This poet uses entirely the common speech of the people and has produced powerful effect. He has referred the five basic elements as a five-headed cobra and he refers the human mindascobra.Hecallsthemindandgivesordertothemind.Heordersthemindtoleavethreeevilmostthings.Theyare“AAna-vam, Kanvam and Maya”. The first two can be easily eradicated bydoingthemeditationsandprayersandtoeradicatethethirdweneedthehelpofaGuruandthealmighty.Aanavammeansbeingproud,KanvammeansalittlebitofjealousyandMayaistheblackscreenwekeepbetweenthesuperhumanpowerandus.Ifwehaveagoodcontroloverthemind,wecaneasilyleadaverygoodandcomfortable divine spiritual life. Even though it is very hard tocontrolthehumanmind,henarratesafewexercisestothemindtohaveagoodcontrol.

Inthepastissues,wediscussedwhatspiritualityis.Inthisissue,wewilldiscussaboutthewritingsofsome“Siddhars”.Siddharsareofspecialqualitysaintsormonks.Theyarecapableofdoingthehardesttasks

bythesimplest.Thereareeightsiddhisandastheyarethemastersofallthoseeightsiddhis,theyarecalledasSiddhars.Theeightsiddhisare,

The first exercise he explains is the Kundalini yoga, which isveryhelpful tocontrol thehumanmind.Kundalini isaSanskritwordmeaningeither“coiledup”or“coilinglikeasnake.”Thereareanumberofothertranslationsofthetermusuallyemphasizingamoreserpentnaturetotheword-e.g.‘serpentpower’.KundaliniYogaisameditativediscipline- or a system of meditative techniques and movements -within theyogic tradition that focusesonpsycho-spiritualgrowthandthebody’spotentialformaturation.ThepracticeofKundaliniYogaconsistsofanumberofbodilypostures,expressive movements and utterances, characterologicalcultivations,breathingpatterns,anddegreesofconcentration.ByproperlypracticingtheKundaliniyoga,onecaneasilycontrol themind.Bycontrolling themind,onecaneasilyerasetheevilthoughtsinthemindandregulatethemind.

SivaVaakkiyarSiddhar:Heusedtocursethepeople,thosewhoare quarrelling with each other based on religions. His ideais that thehumanrace isonlyoneandthere isonlyonedeitycommon to thehuman race. If eachoneofus starts adoptinghistheorytherewillbenoquarrellingatall.Heteachesusalotaboutspirituality.According tohim, thebaseofspirituality isthemindandthehumanity.Byadoptingthehumanitarianrules,onecanhavethemostadvancedspirituallifestyleandbythatspirituallifestyleoftheindividual,theentirehumanracewillleadagreatpeacefullife.

Bypracticingtheyogatechniques,wecanthinktothehighestspirituallevelandcanhaveahigherstyleofspirituallife.Iwishtoquoteoneoftheversesandexplainhowithelpsonetoreachthepeaksofspirituality.Itisaknownfactthatourhumanbodyisa combination of flesh and bone. Even though the physical body isnotmadeofgoodmaterialssuchasgold,weshowagreatloveand affection towards the physical body. The blood, flesh and

bonearenotsogoodmaterials.Normallythese are the food of the wild animals.Ifthelifeinthebodygoesoutandturnstoashapeofdeadbodyautomaticallyabadsmellandodorstartsfromthebody.Therefore,weshouldstopworryingaboutthisphysicalbody.Wehavetotakecareonlytomaintainthisbodyinagoodlevel.Thenonlywecanhaveasoundmind.

Our lifetime is not a standard one: Ourlifetime is just like bubble in the water.Eventhoughthelifetimeisverylimited,wedonottakecaretomakethelifeusefultothedevelopmentofthehumanrace.Weuse our livelihood and brain only to fight with each other. We should pray moreandmoretothealmightyandonlybythe

prayer, we can cultivate our mind to the best humanity. Onlybyhavingthebesthumanityandhumanitarianthoughts,wecanhavethebestbasetoaspirituallife.

Donotshowagreatattractiontowardstheoppositesex:Ifwehavefeelingsthataremoresexual,wecannotcontrolourmindandbody.Themindandbodywillbecomeweakerandweakerifwehavethesexualfeelings.TheSiddharadvicesustohavethesexualattractiononlytowardsourlifepartnersandnotwithothers.

LotofsocalledSwamiandSwaminissaythattheyarecomingtoUStohelptheircommunity.Isitmeanthattheyhavealreadysettledeveryonesproblemsintheirmotherland?.ComingtoUSismainlyamoneymakingpropositionsforlotofsocalledspiritualpersonality.

l TherealappearanceandqualitiesofOmni–Potentisbeyonddescription.ThatmaynotbecountedinHundredsandThousands,Maynotbedividedinvarietiesandvariations,Maynotbetermedeitherbycolororbymeasure.l Devotion is a close relationshipwith“Godoutofallthedevotions”.

l Wisdom is superior; In frontof the ‘wisdom’ the meditation is more

superior;In front of all these merits,renunciationisfurthermoresuperior.l This physique is made of flesh and blood. And this has the five senses and has the tendenciesof enormity.Onewhowants theheavenlinessorwisdomshoulddemolish the feelings of five senses of physique.l Tryandattemptmanytimesthatwill give good result. But laziness andidlenessorsolititudewillgivepoverty.

l This Universe is filled with ever-present lightnesswhichhas thenatureofexpansion.Thisiscalled“Satva–Guna”nature.Thiskindofnaturehasnofoilsorburden.l Pleasure has the tendency ofwillingnessandambition.Thiscomesoutwith one combination of strong-desire.Thisiscalled“Rajo–Guna”,whichposses’enimity.l A lier when he tells a lie heimaginesno-other;oneknowsaboutit,butduetotheconsequenceofthelie,hewillfacesorrow.l ThroughtheseedofaBanianTree,it grows as a shrub and plant. And finally it comes up as a big tree. This Universeis the seed for the whole galaxy. And ithas both good and bad qualities; knownandunknownthings.Deattachmentistheweaponthroughwhichapersonshouldcutoffthistreetogetselfrealization.l A person who has divinity ofthe nature should possess gracefulness,patience, stability, purity and gratitude.The rightfulness with obedience takes apersontoenterintoheaven.Disobediencehasthesinfulnature,whichwillthrowhimintothehell.l One who never feels tire some, Onewhodoesn’thavethesensationthatisegoor‘I’Onewhohasthestrengthandenthusiasm.Onewhoisunmovedeither insuccessordefeat.Thatkindofpersonhasthelightnessofthesoul.Apersonwhoknowsthethreetimes,past,presentandfuture;canconqueranything,includingthisworld.l Aperson’sdivinitiescanbeseeninhisgoodtendency,kindwordsandinhis

About70yearsbackone incidence tookplaceatNewYork.AteamofthreefriendsFrederic,TonyandJimweregoodfriends.Theywerestudyinginacollege.

Sincetheaccommodationinthecollege-hostelwaslimited,theyhadtostayinaprivatechamber.Theyweretheguysaswellasclose,intimateandattachedtoeachother.

OneSundayasitwasaholiday,theydesiredtowatcha film show. The film was most entertaining. After theshowwasover,theydinnedinaninnandcametotheirresidingbuilding.

Whentheyreachedthebuildingitwasaround10’oclockinthenight.Therewaselectricalpowerfailurewhichmadetheentirestreettobedark.

Theywaitedformorethanonehourinthefloor side of the building. Their chamber was in 48th floor of the building.

Theelevatorservicetogoupwardswasalso not possible on account of power

failure. It was actually 48floors; they had to reach by walk.They sat on the foot steps discussing theideastoreachtheirchamber.

Tomake it easyand forget the tediousnessofclimbingup,theysuggestedtellingtheirambitionsoffutureandthelivingstyle. Each one should tell for 16 floors to their account. The first one was Frederic who started to tell his ambition and then walking up was continued. The questions had been prepared by ThirumathiKalpagam Sainathan and it was very well conducted by Mr.SainathanSivasubramanianandMr.Ashok.Thegameforadultsincluded participation by couples. Both hands were tied by astringweavedwith thestringof thespouse.Theobjectof thegamewas to freeeachotherwithoutuntying thestrings.Thisgamewaswell orchestratedbyThirumathiSankari andThiruBalakrishnanRamasubbu. In the end, thepotluckdinnerwith

severaldeliciousdisheswasservedinbuffet.

Thistestwasgivinggreathappinessforothersculptors.Afterawhile, Nayanar came and reported that the first one pillar which was installed in the main auditorium (Prayer Hall) was withdefect.Kingasked the leaderMaayanabout thisandMaayanrepliedwithboldnoandcontestedtheissue.

King enquired Nayanar to explain in detail about the defect,Nayanar told “My respectable king! The rock selected and

utilizedinthepillariswiththe“therai”(Asmallcreature)insidetherock.So,onanydaydamagecouldoccurtothebuilding”.

Protesting this statement, Mayan asked Nayanar to prove thematterimmediately.Nayanarwenttohishouseandbroughtthesandalwoodpowderdulymixedwithwaterandsomeherbs.Hebegantopasteitonthesuspectedpillar.

Every living human being should understand and be aware of True Self, Buddhi, Atma, Soul and Wisdom. When a person

is alive, it is known that the life exists in his/her body. The life here is understandable as a living body. If the living is not doing its action, it is a ‘lying’ body which is same as dead body. The destiny of any birth is death. The life, atma and soul represent the spirit which rules the body for living. In a life, one can live either good or bad. If he is good, the person is called good atma, if he is bad then bad atma.

Spirit also can be either a good spirit or evil spirit. Somebody or something should ‘train’ this atma or life or soul to be good for ever? Agree? If the practice is done properly, the bad can be totally avoided. It’s the duties of elders in the family to give appropriate teaching to the children who will gain this knowledge and be aware of fixing their mind for a proper life with norms of justice.

As these are related to one’s soul, I would take the real experiences and observations for research, which were guiding the Saint Ramana, to attain the wisdom. In the life of famous Saint Ramana, an incidence took place. Learned disciples of Saint Ramana have explained that his real name was Venkata Raman who at the age of 16, his eagerness and the curiosity drove him to find the answer for the Self-inquiry “Who am I?”.

Every day uncountable birth occurs and uncountable deaths occur in this world. What is the purpose and who initiates or controls this chain of occurrences and “Who am I?” was his self doubt which started as glorious achievement of immortality. Now, one more phrase ‘immortality’ also adds up in our bundle of titles already in the “mind file”. Let us see what actually happened to Saint Ramana at his age of 16.

The Great Enlightenment

“It was about six weeks before I left Madurai for good, in the middle of the year 1896, that the great change in my life took place” said Sri Ramana Maharshi, when asked by devotees as to how he was transformed, “It was so sudden. One day I sat up alone on the first floor of my uncle’s house. I was in my usual good health. But a sudden and unmistakable fear of death seized me. I felt I was going to die and at once started about thinking as to what I should do. I did not care to consult anyone, be he a doctor, elder or friend. I felt I had to solve the problem myself then and there. The shock of the fear of death made me at once introspective or ‘introverted’. I said to myself mentally, ‘Now that death is come, what does it mean? Who is it that is dying? This body dies’.

I at once dramatized the situation. I extended my limbs and held them rigid as though rigor mortis had set in. I imitated a

corpse to lend an air of reality to my further investigation. I held my breath and kept my mouth closed, pressing the lips tightly together, so that no sound could escape. ‘Well then’ I said to myself, ‘this body is dead. It will be carried to the crematory and there burnt and reduced to ashes. But with the death of my body, am I dead? Is the body I? This body is silent and inert. But I am still aware of the full force of my personality and even of the sound of I within myself as apart from the body. The material body dies, but the Spirit transcending it cannot be touched by death. I am therefore the deathless Spirit’.

All this was not a feat of intellectual gymnastics, but came as a flash before me vividly as living Truth, which I perceived immediately, without any argument almost. I was something very real; the only real thing in that state, and all the conscious activity that was connected with my body was centered on that. The I or myself was holding the focus of attention with a powerful fascination. Fear of death vanished at once and for ever. The absorption in the Self has continued from that moment right up to now”.

After this incident, there was a complete change in the young sage’s life. The things that he had valued earlier now lost their value. He reached Thiruvannamalai, then called as Arunachala, the place considered as the dwelling place of Lord Shiva (Hindu deity and the Almighty). Saint Ramana was troubled by little boys who threw stones at him as he sat in meditation. He shifted himself to obscure corners and even to an underground place known as Patala-lingam and continued his meditation. His aim to get wisdom --deepened. After 30 years of his Mouna Vratha (meditation of silence), became Gnani. He had thousands and thousands of followers. The teachings were most notable, attractive and appreciable to the people all over the world.

AR Rahman’s career has flourished over the past twenty years. He has sold over one hundred million records world-wide and over two hundred million cassettes. His work includes film scores, soundtracks, theatre, world music and instrumentals. Along side film composing he made an album “Vande Mataram” (1996) singing the title song on the album. Mandira Nandani (MN) - AR Rahman ji congratulations on a superb concert. I won’t praise you any further because anything I say would cheapen the experience of your concert. What or who do you owe your success to?AR Rahman (AR) - I owe my success to God, the love of my family and my fans. Because without love you can’t do anything- and that’s the motivation behind me.

MN - You’re an icon and idol internationally. You inspire millions globally. Who your inspiration?AR - All good people are inspiration to me, because you need infinite things because you are living a mortal life and you need good nature and art and stuff like that (he smiled).

MN - I know this is an unfair question- you have 5 fingers you can’t choose your favorite, similarly, you have many songs and projects- do you have any favorities or specials that touch your heart? AR - I have many, it depends. Last year it was “Luka Chupi” with Tabu sang by Lata Mangeshwar ji, and this year it was “Tere Bina” where all the songs are dedicated to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

MN - One of your first gigs was a coffee jingle. From coffee jingles to your success now, would you go back and change any of your steps along the way?AR - I wouldn’t I think each step was difficult for me, but I try my best to perfect it. Some of them are successful and some of them are not. It’s important to have an intention behind your life and what you are. That comes from within, if you have that intention you can go on with the journey of your life.

MN – Many artists I spoke with today owe their success to you. You have brought up many artists and contributed to their success as well as the fact you have given them their first break. They revere you- and listen to you daily. Who do you or listen to on your cd player?

MN - Speaking of modernizing and music- What is your opinion on being able to download music on the internet?AR - The time has come that we can all judge how we are and we should support each other. People are not going to police you and what you are going to do on the net. We’re all grown ups, we all have our own thoughts. What goes around, comes around. What you give is what you get- You give love then you get love. If you download someone’s hard earned stuff then that should be denied.

MN - The last concert was titled the “unity of light”. Many of your songs deal with love: a romantic love, love for a child, love gained, love lost and the sorrows and happiness that comes with it. How do you, AR ji, define love?AR - It’s a very good and big question with a very big answer. For me the love for God comes first, he comes first, he created all of us he created love and since I am of Sufi path that is more important and of course because of that, he has commended us to love each other then comes secondary love and then your life is peaceful or you suffer from love too much haha! (he smiles)

MN - You’re an international success and an icon figure- I can tell from your many concerts there is so much happening here (pointing to mind) and here (pointing to heart). You have amazing focus and have accomplished more then one can comprehend. With so much success now what do you wish to accomplish?

The speed was such and it was nearing the little Krishna. By the quick moments Krishna understood the situation and sending away the other boys for safer distance, he raised his right leg up. It grew and grew as bigger before the wheel. The giant in such a gigantic power and force came in form of wheel dashed with the foot of Krishna who was mightier than the enemy and his divine power of strength acted to give end to the giant. The wheel was powdered by the force raised by Krishna. After a while, the corpse of “Sakadasura was “found scattered into pieces on the ground and there was no charriot wheel at all. The dust raising land and the abnormal sounds like thunders, when “Sakadasura” came there turned as a place of calm ground of playing. The mother Yasotha and all the village people gathered there. She ran closer to Krishna with great fear as she thought some seriousness could have affected her child. Krishna with his beautiful smile embraced his mother. She brought the child to

palace and asked her friends to do the rituals and pooja, so that her child could recover from any attack and shock. She was just a human mother; it was quite natural she did, her caressing and affections of her child. Yashodha was to have Krishna an child!

It’s a good practice to look at the sky during the moonless night to develop the capacity of vision. Those who attend computer works, cine projectors, and writing will

be getting good benefits by this exercise. The ‘Shooting Stars’ are meteors which are often seen in the night sky. It is visible just one or two seconds as it is a traveling star with great speed. Then, it vanishes after the show.

These meteors contain iron and few other metals. The floating meteors when happen to cross or enter the zone of the outer space of earth, they are burnt automatically. This fire incidence, when the meteor destroyed sparks as bright flares. This is called as Shooting Stars.

There are three types of astronomical names. They are Meteors, Meteorites, and Meteoroids. On 20th June 1996, a village in Rajasthan, India happened to secure a meteor weighing 20KiloGrams. It was a belief that the object could have come from orbits of Mars. In the belt of asteroids there are lots of rocky objects which can not be seen through naked eyes. About two hundred years back an object with the largest size of 900 Kilometers in diameter was noticed and then named as “Ceres.” About sixteen years back, a smallest one, of size nine meters was also found.

With all the protection by nature, the earth is circling round the Sun. Every day many happenings are occurring in the sky. The Meteoroids are of major, iron contents, which come into the orbit belt of Earth and create wonders. Just imagine if they are free to give destruction to homes and towns on earth; what would become of us? The almighty has given the “Kavasha” the protection to earth which has its speed, gravitational region, and the atmospherc zone which will have the potentiality to resist such entrances and save the earth.

Rare incidences are registered all around the world about the falling of Meteors on earth. That gives the caution “any thing could happen”. About 12 years back, the planet Jupiter was attacked by a big Meteor from a comet, which was coming closer to Jupiter and entered the surface of Jupiter, this clash made damage for more than thousand miles. The Astronomers from the earth watched the incidence and registered the success of their fore-telling.

The matter of reference to tell these incidences under the title Shooting Stars does not connect to any war between stars or any collision between worlds. The earth has got it’s protectional region which our forefathers named as “Kavasha.” Even the satellite voyage and returning from space stations, the crafts are not reaching the earth straight away. They have to make the influence with the region of “Kavasha” by circling around the earth step

Bakthi is devotion. The term usually refers to the devotion

by a lesser being to the higher one. Thus we have Mathru Bakthi, Pitru Bakthi, Guru Bakthi and Divine Bakthi representing devotion to

Mother, Father, Guru and Almighty respectively. The level and kind of bakthi is of varying degree. In mathru bakthi, there is a mixture of affection and endearment. In Pithru bakthi, the mixture of entitlement and efficacy is more pronounced. In Guru bakthi, the mixture of reverence and abdication is keenly felt. And in Divine bakthi, all these and much more form the mixture with devotion!

Divine bakthi should be pure and unadulterated. Rituals alone do not form bakthi. They are only tools in the process. Prayer is a means to reach the stage of bakthi. Faith and sincerity are the essentials of prayer. A perfect understanding and concentration in what we do form the basics of proper prayer. Repetitive sincere prayers are borne out of bakthi on one hand and on the other hand go towards increasing the level of bakthi in one’s self.. You can pray and worship the Divine in any form. The great Nayanmars and Alwars expressed their bakthi in different formats and also by singing the praise of the Lord in various ways. The bakthi of various saints was of different type. Meera Bai and Andal had the ardent bakthi and longed to be in unison with the Lord. The rustic hunter, Kannappa Nayanar, adored the Lingam as a living being and offered his eyes, one after the other, when he found trace of blood on the face of the Lingam. For Nandanar, the very sight of the temple tower of Chidambaram evoked great ecstasy before entering into the temple. For Arjuna the Lord was a relative, driver, friend, philosopher and guide. For Bhadrachal Ramadas’ bakthiful lamentations, Lord Rama presented himself before the Sultan. Thyagaraja’s soulful musical renderings on Lord Rama reverberate among the hills and dales of South India.

Many episodes in the scriptures and puranas depict the devotees rendering bakthi to the Divine in their conceived forms. But the basic tenets of bakthi – resolute faith, sincerity and steadfastness – reigned supreme. Lord Krishna reiterated these tenets in Bhagavad-Gita. (Ch:12-Bakthi Yogam)

Sakthi is energy in simpler terms and power in a greater term. Matter without energy is of little use. Scriptures describe the status of matter as “Chethana and achethana”,. Sivam (the Supreme matter) combined with Sakthi (the supreme power) pervades the world. One of the six forms of worship enunciated by the Aryans was Saktham- Worship of the Divine in feminine form.

For any movement, energy is required. The supreme Sakthi energizes the world. Scriptures describe Sakthi as of three kinds – Icha Sakthi, Kriya Sakthi and Gnana Sakthi. Icha Sakthi is the energy that creates and motivates the desire (Icha). Kriya Sakthi is the energy that is required to do and act (kriya) as per the motives and desires. Gnana Sakthi is the energy required for the achievement and culmination or the fruition with utmost wisdom and profundity of knowledge (Jnana). For any great

Sakthi is worshipped in various feminine forms – as Lakshmi (Goddess of wealth), Saraswathi (of learning), Durga (of destroyer of evils), Parasakthi (of great all powerful and kind protector) and different manifestations. From time immemorial Sakthi is worshipped both with awe and love! There are eighteen sakthi peetas – where the power of Sakthi is with added concentration – spread over in a few states in India, each with its own legend,. Each one has distinctive features and a hoary past. There is not a single village in India without a temple of Devi.

Siddhi in simple terms is achievement and in broader terms attainment of perfection or the ultimate. Siddhi is the pinnacle reached by unadulterated Bakthi and acquisition of Sakthi. Without bakthi and sakthi, Siddhi cannot be perceived. Practicing an ardent life with devotion and strict adherence to the norms, regulations and mantras set out in the Atharva Veda to reach the stage of Siddhi, one becomes a Siddha Purusha or Siddha.

There are eight types of Siddhis called “Ashta Ma Siddhis”. They are Anima, Mahima, Lahima, Karima, Porpthi, Vasithvam, prakathmiyam and Ishathvam.

The Siddhas who practice different pursuits with specialization can perform unimaginable acts like walking on the river water, get buried in earth for a number of days, raising above the ground level with movement of limbs, converting things to metals, getting into others’ body (Jala Sthambanam, Bhoo Sthambanam,

Vayu Sthambanam, Rasa Vadam, Para Kaya Pravesam) talking to birds and beasts, talking to the dead etc. Another branch of siddha activity is the siddha system of medicine specifying certain natural ways of life and medicines made of simple herbal ingredients of effective cure of all ailments, which is acclaimed as one of the best systems all over the world. There are only a few siddhas who practice techniques relevant to the present day situations of the family life, influence of bad spirits in one’s life, different types of doshams or evil influence of planets, black magic mental agony and other such problems.

In olden days there were several Rishis (sages) who became Siddhas. Of these eighteen Siddhas (“Pathinenn Siddhars”) were notable for different kinds of siddha activities. Some were prominent like Kapila, Bhogar and Akasthiyar. Mention of Siddha is made even in Bhagavat-Gita and the Lord says “I am Kapila among Siddhas” (Ch: 10-26. Vibuthi yogam). Some Siddhas had setup separate “Peetams” (foundations) to perpetuate the lineage.

Contrary to public belief, a siddha is not one who renounced the world (Sanyasi) but one who leads a normal life in the world, utilizing his knowledge and powers to alleviate the sufferings of the people to the extent possible. He is a living being, your next door neighbour. He is a person with ordinary looks, but of course, one with some extraordinary abilities!

Let Bakthi and Sakthi join hands with Siddhi in an effort towards making the world a better place to live!

After the birth of a child in the world, the habits and behaviors are inculcated in them gradually. The duty of the mother is most important in bringing up the child. The entire future depends upon molding of the child in the early child hood. The nature permits the change of seasons

from child hood to a stage of grown up boy or girl hood and then comes the youthful personality.

This particular stage is going to be acknowledged as adult. The mind and activities at this age will be with fast tendencies and quick decisions. The life is there to live up to old age of 70, 80. The modern fashions, customs, and opportunities are drawn towards attractions.

The variations between affectionate and passionate could not be observed by the youngsters. Fashions and fascinations are capturing the minds of youths. Prone to passion is passionate. Affection, in a good subject with good will in its purity is love. This one can not get in strange occasions or events. One has to know where to apply what and when and how.

The prime youth are like spring time scholars. The age and the circumstances will be attracting them for fun activities and searching for a friend of other sex. The variation of these unknown destinations of desires dominates their mind. In this search, they may go through lot of failures which may lead them to “the failure to be stable”.

Lack of Self control causes the issues. They should realize the principles and aims which may equalize and help them to reach to their expectations. The outwardly appearances for the suitability is not necessary. What is the thirst of one? Will it be to the norms of long standing lives? One should also check the adjustments and flexibilities to move with, for their better future ahead. Before they realize the hasty decisions and speedy movements lead to a state of

dissatisfaction. Life is not chained with tests as it is bound to settle with happiness. Testing every time with out an aim will ruin the life of one. Good under standing and the observations of behaviors are most important to have a friend either of same sex or of other. Passion is lesser to the rank of love.

Some times the friend ship with other sex proves fertile and leads to the marriage and they continue happy living. It’s usually lesser than 8 out of 100 people. Most of the relationships end up as failure. So, the real love is real far away. No one should fall as victims and lose their future. In true life it is rare to get success as intellectual friendship is graded first.

In the divine land a most beautiful pair, Manmatha and Rathi were determined as the best couple. Manmatha, the epics call him as “Cupid” (God of love), a personality of a masculine finest beauty. ‘Rathi, is also compared as the top most among women. They were living very happily. Their divine powers permitted here zto go to any place, mountains, rivers and skies. Manmatha was having a Sugar cane bow and lotus as arrow. The epics describe the bow with great meanings.

Sugar Cane Bow: The people in all over the world and the divines in divine land are eager to have the sweetness. The plant sugar-cane gives the best form of sweetness. It is explained that the sugar cane is bottom side of the plant will be with more sweetness.

The flower of sugar cane comes from top side of the plant. From far, it looks like a huge gathering of furs and silky feathers and its more than 2 feet tall. You can observe some tints like rainbow

too. Altogether it is a very pleasant and a beautiful show.

In this explanation, what are the essentialities to understand?

Sugar cane is a thick stem with full of juice. The top side of sugar cane is not used as it’s not sweet. Manmatha and Rathi are like this juice with full happiness. They appear near sea and dance on the sand. As ‘Manmatha’ encircle his hands around the waist of ‘Rathi’, the dance continues on rivers, mountains and gardens. They find happiness, joy and enjoyment everywhere.

Why lotus flower is used for an arrow? While the masculine nature is that of sugar cane, the feminine nature is that of flower. Women yields to the need of a man and very flexible and curve to the expectation of the husband. Lotus is very beautiful with full of attraction. The stem (Core) of the Lotus comes from the bottom of a pond or lake. It’s hollow in the middle. The stem projects above the level of water to get the oxygen needed for survival. The women, by nature very soft, begin to live with man, like an oxygen supplier. Such relations are must for the mankind.

Manmatha was doing his duties for his guru “Sukhra Acharya”. The lives on earth, the creations, reptiles, fishes, animals and human being were all multiplied only on the orders of Sukhra Acharya. He was the authority for love and relations and the cause for child birth. He even controlled the creation of flowers and plants.

Sukra Acharya is a ruling deity of the planet Venus. He creates desires, eagerness and passion. So, the real match with ‘Rathi” is a boon to Manmatha. It’s always said that any couple should

One day, when they were playing in garden, the game of hide and seek, Rathi with her supremacy vanished in clouds towards north. Manmatha began to search her and went up to Kailash. He was very tired and upset while he saw Lord Shiva in meditation. Manmatha asked himself why Lord Shiva should meditate without spending time with Umadevi (Lord Shiva’s wife) and aimed a lotus flower arrow, which fell on the head of Lord Shiva. HE was disturbed from his sacred doings of meditation and opened his third eye which was meant for the flames of fire for destruction.

The pitiable ‘Manmatha’ was destroyed to ashes. The fun game gave a fate of destruction for Manmatha. Rathi, after a long while, could not see her husband but by her soul power she under stood what had happened. She went to Kailash and fell on the feet of Lord Shiva.

She cried as she lost her husband and her life of everlasting love. Realizing what her husband had done, she begged the Lord.

“Oh Lord Chandra Sekara, your Lord ship are the kindest of all the kindest. Your Lord ship has given asylum to Shree Chandra up on your head! My humble husband unknowingly has done this sin. Oh Lord! Grace me to live with my husband.” Her plea was accepted by the Lord and granted the life to Manmatha who fell at the feet of Lord Shiva. Thus the lost life of Rathi and Manmatha continues still.

There are many islands in the Pacific Ocean. One among them is “Hawaii”, the most beautiful and exotic tropical island on earth. In each of the islands, there was a ruler or

leader who used to govern that Island.

Hawaii had two rulers. One is a male whose name was ‘Kavo’, the elder brother and the other ruler was ‘Kela’, sister of Kavo. Since the Island was surrounded by the vast sea, all the people living there were well experienced in swimming.

They make their own “Surf – Board” which was helpful to go into the deep ocean. The edges of the “Surf-Board” had the sloping shape. For the out look, Surf Board was spacious enough to one who can even sleep on that. Through the help of Surf board, the ruler Kela used to swim and enter into the deep sea and come back to the island. No one in the island had the swimming skill as that of Kela.

Her brother Kavo used to say “Kela would have been born as mermaid of sea”. Some among the skillful swimmers used to fold their legs and sit on the board while on voyage in the sea. Very few swimmers used to even stand on board, while they get into sea and venture. When the ruler ‘Kela’ grew up, her brother ‘Kavo’ had the thought of marriage for his sister.

But ‘Kela’ gave a condition. That condition was that one who wishes to marry her should have the skill of surf board and he should defeat her in the swimming competition. In another Island nearby called “MAI” lived a ruler called “Loloal”. In the life of Loloal, a tragedy took place. He whole heartedly loved a girl of his Island. He used to play with her in the sea. It was usual to go into the sea with surf board. Loloal and his lover girl entered into the sea one day. Unfortunately on that day a storm attacked their balance. In that accident Loloal lost his lover girl.

Even after two years, Loloal could not realize himself from the shock. But the people of the land reminded him and compelled him to get married soon. Then Loloal made a visit to ‘Hawaii’. In ‘Hawaii where all the youngsters had failed to win the ‘surf board’ competition with the ruler ‘Kela’, her marriage was also getting postponed.

The prince Loloal had come to know about this and decided to compete with her. The competition took place. Fortunately Loloal had won the match. The brother of Kela arranged the marriage for both of them and they got married.

After the marriage, Loloal told Kela, all his memories. In that events he told about his lover girl and times with the surf board into the deep sea and also the incident of accident. Loloal requested his wife ‘Kela’ to come to his Island “MAI” where there was a place surrounded by mountains. He suggested further that there was an old fort for a comfortable living. But Kela denied her husband’s request, because she loved the sea of ‘Hawaii’ very much and their family life was also good.

After some years they had one child and become parents of few more children later. Since the years passed Loloal had forgotten his lover girl who died in the sea. So in “Hawaii” itself Loloal had built a new palace near the ocean and lived happily, with the family.

As we travel the path to Spirituality, it has to be clearly understood that it is beyond our body, mind, energy or emotions. As a first attempt in the form of writing this article, let us be aware of certain guidelines and teachings of Great Saints. This article highlights some excerpts from the knowledge and wisdom

shared by our forefathers (GURUS) like Ramana Maharishi and Swami Vivekananda.

Guru or a Master:

Firstly, Guru means dispeller of darkness (of ignorance). The Great Saints who have come and gone before us clearly define that a Guru is one who has meditated solely on God, has flung his whole personality into the sea of God and drowned and forgotten it there, till he becomes only the instrument of God; and when his mouth opens it speaks God’s words without effort or forethought; and when he raises a hand, God flows again through that, to work a miracle. Do not think too much of psychical phenomena and such things. Their number is legion; and once faith in the psychical thing is established in the heart of a seeker, such phenomena have done their work. Clairvoyance, clairaudience, and such things are not worth having, when so much far greater illumination and peace are possible without them than with them. The Guru takes on these powers as a form of Self-Sacrifice.

The idea that a Master is simply one who has attained power over the various occult senses by long practice and prayer or anything of the kind, is absolutely false. No Guru ever cared a rap for occult powers, for he has no need for them in his daily life. The phenomena we see are curious and surprising – but the most marvelous of all we do not realize and that is that one, and only one, illimitable force is responsible for: -- All the phenomena we see; and the Act of seeing them.

Do not fix your attention on all these changing things of life, dearth and phenomena. Do not think of even the actual act of seeing or perceiving them, but only of that which sees all these things – That which is responsible for it all. This will seem nearly impossible at first, but by degrees the result will be felt.

On the path to Spirituality…

It takes years of steady, daily practice, and that is how a Guru is made. Give a quarter of an hour a day for this practice. Try to keep the mind unshakenly fixed on That which sees. It is inside yourself. Do not expect to find that “That” is something definite on which the mind can be fixed easily: it will not be so. Though it takes years to find that “That”, the results of this concentration will be seen in four or five months’ time – in all sorts of unconscious clairvoyance, in peace of mind, in power to deal with troubles, in power all round, yet always unconscious power.

Let the aforementioned thoughts and teachings of Ramana Maharishi guide us in our path to spirituality. From now onwards, let your whole thought in meditation be not on the act of seeing, nor on what you see, but immovably on That which Sees.

God or an Almighty:

As Swami Vivekananda put it in an easy way to understand for a question from one of his disciple “ whether God exists?”, he pointed to three things in our life – (1) as long as the event of death exists, (2) as long as the events that we desire for, does not happen and (3) as long as the events that we do not desire for, does happen -- God will exist, whether you believe it or not.

Religion, whether it be Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, Theosophy, or any other kind of “Ism” or “Sophy” or system, can only take us to the one point where all religions meet and no further. That one point where all religions meet is the realization – in no mystical sense, but in the most worldly and everyday sense, and the more worldly and everyday and practical the better, -- of the fact that God is everything, and every thing is God.

From this point begins the work of the practice of this mental comprehension, and all it amounts to is the breaking of a habit. One has to cease calling things “things”, and must call them God; and instead of thinking them to be things, must know them to be God; instead of imagining “existence” to be the only thing possible, one must realize that this phenomenal existence is only the creation of the mind, that “non-existence” is a necessary sequence if you are going to postulate “existence”.

The knowledge of things only shows the existence of an organ to cognize. There are no sounds to the deaf, no sights to the blind, and the mind is merely an organ of conception or of appreciation of certain sides of God.

God is infinite, and therefore existence and non-existence are merely His counterparts. Further to above-mentioned understandings of Ramana Maharishi, he also doesn’t wish to say that God is made up of Definite component parts. It is hard to be comprehensive when talking of God. True knowledge comes from within and not from without. And true knowledge is not “knowing” but “seeing”.

In the world history, “ALEXANDER THE GREAT” was a very notable king of Greek. His ambitions and hopes were

always focused on expanding his power and regime by covering almost all countries of Asia.

His troops and commanders were very large in numbers. The victories followed one after another. All the routes and ways, up to India were known perfectly by his Commanders. The annexing of the countries and enlarging his kingdom for several thousands miles were done with great efforts. There was a stage when Alexander was capturing the position of emperor of the world.

On his way, after reaching the Indian Territory, the great king happened to witness a scene. There was a man, with long beard sitting under a tree and meditating who looked just like a Fakir. Fakirs were the persons inland, like Afghanistan with long beard. As Alexander went closer, wondered to see this man with no cloths. But, the k i n g ’ s presence was not n o t i c e d by that Fakir. Since A l e x a n d e r crossed all the lands and met several people, he just considered that man as Fakir. But, he was actually a sage who do penance, which is an art of worshipping the Almighty by meditation. In those days the ‘sages’ did such penance by closing eyes for months and years together. They needed no food and they would continue their meditation in a fixed position for such prolonged periods.

Since the King was unnoticed and not shown any sign of respect, Alexander got very angry. The sage did not even open his eyes as his concentration was on meditation. King Alexander got wild and took his sword.

Oh! No! The king just cut the beard of the sage. But, there was no response from the sage. The soldiers and commanders were also witnessing the event. King then turned violent to kill the sage. The sharp edge of the sword was aimed to set in between the eye brows of the sage.

Slowly the sage opened his eyes and began to speak. “Oh, King Alexander, I know you are a valiant and a great warrior. Why should you interfere in my duties?”

Astonishingly, the King calmed down from his temper and asked

the sage, “All the people from all countries are welcoming and bow down their heads in respect. Why are you, the only person to disobey the situation?”

Sage smiled and told “Only for the Almighty, the God, I use to bow and pray. Even though you are a king, you are just a man like me. So, I need no commitment to bow”. Sage added further “Your days are counted, when you go back to home after these victories, the death will occur. Bear it in your mind”.

King did not want to continue any conversation with the sage and went on to attend his duty. Later, Alexander won several other battles and was returning to his country. In the midway he fell ill and was suffering. The circumstance was very crucial and

helpless. He was not able to get any good medicines. King then called the

commander-in-chief and explained to him.

“Commander, the man I

t h o u g h t was fakir, whom I spoke in India; I think he

is more than a

Sage. Do you remember

the incident?”

“Yes my lord!! It was like a miracle on that day”

replied the Commander. “Indians are actually very skilled. We under estimated their

efficiencies of good men. Now, I feel that day has come to me.” King cried.

“No your lordship, you will live a long life” a reply came. The deeply

sorrowed King with no energy said, “My savings, wealth, all gold, lands and diamonds, which are secured through the war, nothing could now be helpful as suitable as medicine for me”.

The great King, who conquered most of the world, died and left this world. The Sage’s words came true. His experience is a great example for all of us to realize that power, position and ego exercised against the nature, can sabotage anybody’s life and consciousness in a negative way.
