Energizing the world of utility vehiclesMany towns, communities and companies have already discovered the benefits of an electrified fleet for their public buses, delivery or waste removal trucks. Successful projects can be found in numerous places around the world, and we can expect an exponential growth of such installations as both electric utility vehicles and available charging infrastructures are now adapted to perfectly fit the needs.

The future-oriented charging setup takes care of a diverse mix of vehicles, considers restrictions in power supply setup, optimizes

your electricity bill and most important, provides you with the safety that all your vehicles are always available when you need them. Furthermore, it has to seamlessly integrate in any existing environment. Small footprints in highly frequented areas and a design which supports your brand need to be considered.

With the SICHARGE UC family, Siemens provides such a set of building blocks which adapts to the various requirements and restrictions you encounter in energizing your fleet now and in the future.

Depot charging

Providing you always with the best fitting hard- and software for your specific needs is our mission. For this, you can freely choose from the components of the SICHARGE UC family in its various power classes. One or multiple Charging Centers are always the core of the system as it contains the AC grid connection and the DC power electronics for your charging purposes.

The easiest way to connect to an electric vehicle is via a charging cable from the Charging Center. As space is valuable in many public places and logistic sites, you might want to distribute the DC power from the Charging Centers via up to 5 additional

Frontends which you can install flexibly within your charging setup. As this cable connection requires some user interaction, and is dedicated for longer charging times, we generally see this installed in bus or logistic depots.

Opportunity chargingAlso used in depots but often dedicated for short-term opportunity charging, we see the use of Pantograph solutions, either installed on the vehicle or as part of the off-board infrastructure. The SICHARGE UC family provides solutions also for these automated connection

possibilities via a mast mounted Panto-graph or respectively via fix contact rails installed in the mast or roof mounted Hood. Either of such option is again powered by the Charging Center and if you want to combine frontends and Pantograph, you also have this flexibility.

The SICHARGE UC familyCharging Center The Charging Center is the core of your system. It contains the charging controller, the DC convert-ers and optionally a direct cable connection to the vehicle. Several other vehicle connections like the cable based Frontend, inverted Pantograph and Hood can be powered by this unit.

Frontend

The cable connected Frontend of the UC family is installed close to the vehicles connection with a small footprint and elegant design.

For investment and space optimization, several Frontends can be powered in sequence by a single Charging Center.

Mast mounted Hood

For electric vehicles with integrated Pantograph, the Hood is the connecting counterpart. You have the choice of a single as well as a double design for sequential charging.

Inverted Pantograph urban design

The inverted Pantograph is your fully automated option to connect to your fleet e.g. on feeding opportunities along the route.

This “urban design” was created to accommodate modern urban architecture.

Inverted Pantograph industrial design

With similar features as the urban design, the industrial design of the mast has its advantages of a moduar installation as well as optimized cost.
