Function – purpose for which the institution was created. Usually refers to the objectives, mission, vision.
Symbols – are important for identifying the type of institution.
Rituals – are performed in institutions for symbolic value as well as to preserve the institution.
Hierarchy – structure of organisation. Can be visually depicted as a pyramid. It shows structure from highest in authority to lowest within an institution.
