To be or not to be that is the question! So, are we alive or does life play tricks on us?

“Like a shy guy at the show” is more than just the lyrical hookline of one the band's songs. Disintegration is the major topic of songs, lyrics and artwork of the German band shy guy at the show which was founded in 2005 in the town of Karlsruhe. Paul Auster's fictional character Marco Stanley Fogg in his world-famous novel Moonpalace serves as some kind of role model for the band's search for identity. Whereas the moon is Fogg's point of reference sgats have discovered music as theirs.

But wait!

There's more to it than just a youthful long day's journey out of night. Inspired by the works of modern poets such as Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams and Robert Frost shy guy at the show mix textual sparseness with 80s Wave Rock à la Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Camouflage or Kraftwerk.

The cold light of mankind. I embrace thee and turn away from the coziness of divine hierarchy. How much does it take to let me stay? What do you want me to do and say and vow and preach to endlessly drink your sweet ambrosia? Doubt, I call thee friend whereas they will deem you enemy!

I’m neither man nor woman. I AM A MOTHERFUCKING ANGEL. What is an angel? Who am I? I’m leaving you for earth, where they call me divine, precious, mighty, immortal. Books have told my life. I’ll read them. I’m not longing to become human. They are weak and false. But they own and breed doubt. Heaven slumbers. I am awake and roaming the alleys of knowledge to learn the seven arts of mankind. One master of the trivium, the threefold path. Three masters of the quadrivium, the fourfold path. I’ll watch them, I’ll learn from them. One philosopher bound to teach me grammar, rhetorics and logic. An architect who’ll teach me arithemtics and geometry. The third one a musician will pass along his knowledge of composing. The last master an astronomer. Art breeds doubt. Art gives birth to doubt. Art gives life to the doubt inside me. It gives life to me...I will form myself after the image of mankind. “The Birth of Doubt” is shy guy at the show's ambitious attempt of combining literature, music and visual aspects. The LP containing 12 songs is joined by a music video and a 40 page Graphic Novel which illustrates the songs' lyrics and contents. Based on Goethe's reception of the myth of Prometheus, the band has created the story of a nameless angel who wants to learn mankind's unique ability to doubt. Shy guy at the show function as a multimedia-based project and thus offer more than a just a musical experience. This pretension also serves as a guideline for the band's electrifying live shows.
