NSS Unit RCOEM

The National Service Scheme of R.C.O.E.M organized several events in the year2015-16. This year the NSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobaba college of Engineering &Management had organised several events.

1. Organ Donation Campaign: -(Aang DaanMahadaan )

On 6th Aug 2015 NSS Unit of RCOEM along withtheir 45 volunteers participated in the organdonation rally that was organised by RTMNU,Nagpur. The rally was all about to create a socialawareness among the people towards theimportance of organ donation. Why the organdonation is necessary, how anyone can contributetowards the society by organ donation etc. werethe motive which was successfully fulfilled by the

end of therally.

2. Blood Donation:- NSS unit organizedthe Blood donation camp on 8 Aug 2015 incollaboration with Dr. Hedgewar blood bankfor students, teaching and nonteaching staffmembers. It was a very positive start for theyearlong activities of the NSS unit of ourcollege. About 175 students and members ofstaff came forward to donate blood

voluntarily and make this endeavour asuccess. The donors were given T-shirts,certificates and refreshments.

Independence Day: - Independence Daywas organized with great zeal and

Enthusiasm on college premises, and was

graced with the presence of ShriBanwarilalji Purohit. As he hoisted theflag, the feeling patriotism and pride inbeing a free citizen of India were almosttangible in the atmosphere. The air wasthen filled with the sweet heart touchingnotes of patriotic songs as everyonecelebrated the joyous occasion.

3. Tree Plantation: -Eminence and

inspiration were the words that resonatedwhen NSS unit of RCOEM conducted ''TreePlantation'' on the occasion of teacher'sday i.e. 5th sept. The event commencedwith the warm welcome of Dr. S. Dogra,NSS program officer graced the occasion

with their eloquent speech outlining thekey reasons behind the Plantation intoday's context. Then came the excitingpart of the event when several saplingsplanted. The entire NSS team wasparticipated enthusiastically. The eventended with refreshment and vote of thanksto the eminent guests.

The event not only helped thevolunteers on gathering knowledge butalso sensitized them to the importance offorestation.

4. Visit to Yuva Jyothi Orphanage:- Visit toNGO: - On 25th Sept 2015 the NSS groupvisited the Shraddhanand Anathalaya,Nagpur for the first time. Before weeven got to meet the kids, we wereoffered a tour around the property.Walking around, it was a pleasantsurprise to how our expectation of abusty and sad place were replaced bythe reality of a vibrant, heart-warmingand welcoming environment. 52volunteers visited the place. We werepleasantly surprised to encounter such

happy and lively kids who we could getalong easily. These kids also showcasedan exhibition of hand made diyas andthe decorative items made by them.This experience was, without a shadowof doubt, one of the most rewardingand fulfilling we have had.

5. Essay Competition: - With an attempt to explore and nourish the talent ofthe college students, the NSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobaba College ofEngineering and Management had organized an essay writing competitionfor the students of 1st and 2nd year. The purpose of the event todemonstrate their writing skills as well as to express their views on currentissues. The event was organized on 6 Oct. The topic of the of the event wastraffic awareness and first-aid safety. The event was organized with theessence to create an awareness among the students about the traffic andsafety which is very necessary in this scenario. The event was organized bythe branch representatives of 2nd year along with 3rd year core committeemembers of the NSS Unit. The students from all the year and departmentparticipated in this event resulting in the grand success of the event.

6. Visit to Saoner: - The visit wasorganized to celebrate the World Deafand Dumb day. The event was graced bythe presence of NSS program Officer ofRCOEM Dr. S. Dogra.During the eventfood grains and other eatables weredistributed to the students. Thedignitaries present interacted with the

staff members of the school tounderstand the extensive effortundertaken by the faculty member of theschool to make the students asindependent and responsible members ofthe society. The visit ended with thedistribution of sweets to the students.The amazing thing about the visit wasthat none of the volunteers had pity onthe students, instead they feel proud fortheir positive attitude towards life. Theyfeel honoured to be a part of their livesalthough just for some hours.

7. Visitto Old AgeHome: -On

6th Nov 2015, around 20 volunteers of theNSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobaba College ofEngineering and Management made a visit toPREM DAAN (an old age home), nearKasturchand Park ground, L. I. C. square. TheNSS volunteers along with the NSS programofficer of RCOEM Dr. S. Dogra, reached the oldage home at 11:30 am and were present theretill 1 pm. In this span of time they interactwith the inmates and also to break themonotony of the lives the volunteers hadorganized different activities like singing,dancing etc. There were around 35 members in the old age home and this

help to make the visit more interactiveincluding with this it also creates a joyfullenvironment there. The response of the oldpersons there was also good which make thevolunteers to realize that old age has itspleasure, which though different, are not lessthan the pleasure of youth. Including with thisthe NSS team had also donated grains to thehome. The in charge of the old age home, sister Amla thanked the whole Dr.S. DOGRA, NSS program officer and the whole NSS team for theircontribution towards the institution and also for the time they spend therewith the inmates. A sign of satisfaction and happiness can be observed easilyon the face of both i.e. the volunteers and the old persons in the old agehome.

8. Annakoot: -N.S.S volunteersparticipated enthusiastically in‘Annakoot’ i.e. distribution of food toall devotees of Shri Ramdeobabaincluding people from Gittikhadanarea. The program was contributedunder the guidance of Dr. S. DograH.O.D Physical Education Department& NSS program officer RCOEM.

9. Ram Katha:- This was one of themega event of Shri RamdeobabaCollege of Engineering andManagement, which was volunteeredby NSS Unit of the college. It was

conducted from 11th Jan 2016 to 18th

Jan 2016. People were enlightened bythe narrator Shri Vijay KaushaljiMaharaj and were inspired by thecharacter of Lord Rama. There werearound 1500 devotees attended RamKatha.

10.Seminar on Traffic Awareness: - Withan attempt to explore the knowledgeand aware the college students, theNSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobaba collegeof engineering and managementalong with the RTO Nagpur, hadorganized a lecture on ‘’trafficawareness and first-aid ‘’ for the first year students. The event wasorganized on 20 Jan 2016. The event was marked with the presence eminentguests Dr. D.T. Pasar (R.T.O), Subodh Deshpande (assistant RTO), JayantMore (IMV) and Pardeeiehagaonkar (system administrator & PRO) alongwith the NSS program officer of SRCOEM Dr. S Dogra. In the beginning theguests were felicitated by Dr S. Dogra. The topic of the of the event wastraffic awareness and first-aid safety. The event was conducted between11:30 a.m. To 1:00 p.m. The event was organized with the essence to createan awareness among the students about the traffic and safety which is verynecessary in the present scenario. In the lecture some video clips wereshown to the students that how a small thing can led to a major accident.Including with this pamphlets were also distributed among the studentshaving the information about the traffic rules and traffic symbols. To makethe session more interactive a question- answer session was also there.After this the NSS Unit thanked the guests for their presence in the premiseswhich will result in the huge success of the event.

11.Republic Day: -NSS dept of RKNEC celebrated the Republic Day in the college

premises in the presence of Shri BanwarilaljiPurohit, Chairman SRKNEC, ShriGovindlalji Agrawal (Secretary), Dr. R. S. pande (Principal), Dr. S. Dogra (HOD,Physical Education Department& NSS Program Officer) and Prof. AmitAnurag, Lecturer, Physical Education Department, Head of departments ofall departments and other members of management committee. ShriBanwarilalji Purohit hoisted the national flag and encouraged all with hisinspirational words. The event concluded with sweet distribution.

12.Old Garment Distribution: - The NSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobabacollege ofengineering and management had organized an old garments distributiondrive. In this drive the clothes was collected from the students and the staffmembers of the college and then further distributed among the poor andneedy people in different areas of city. The event was organized on theauspicious day of Eid i.e. on 26th Sept. The garments were distributed atMEETHA NEEM DARGAH and in RAILWAY Colony. The distribution was donewith the active participation of NSS volunteers. The people there blessed thestudents for there contributions in this Nobel cause. A sign of satisfactioncan easily be observed on the people's face there and also among the NSSvolunteers which makes the event successful.

13.Prerna 8.0(15th-18thfeb 2016):-NSS unit of RCOEM conducted its annualevent Prerna 8.0, a four daylong eventfrom 15TH Feb to 18thfeb 2016. Themain aim of this programme was tocreate social awareness amongtechnocrats by the means of variousinter-collegiate competitive events andguest lectures by Imminentpersonalities. The first day started withthe inaugural function, which wasgraced with the presence of Mr.KanhaiyalaljiMandhanaas the chief guest of theprogramme. The event also marked the presence of Dr. R.S. Pande(Principal,RCOEM) and Dr. S.Dogra(NSS Program Officer, RCOEM).

Following events were organized under PRERNA 8.0Orater Of The Year

The first day started with the l round ofOrator of the Year, where theparticipants immersed themselves inspinning a web of words to catch theinterest of the audience, on the topicsgiven to them ten minutes before theirspeech. The competition brought to lightthe innate skills of oratory, as well as theknowledge acquired by these studentsover the time, and their ability to

impress and captivate audience with it. Therounds were judged by Mr. HitestDewani ,Director of a leading training institute (H.RMentors) for CAT and MBA CET in Nagpur.

I. JUNOON-Succeed against allodds

NSS unit of Shri Ramdeobaba College OfEngineering and Management took a step“Junoon” to showcase the talent of speciallyabled children. The word “Junoon” itselfmeans passion and this passion move menbeyond their shortcomings and failures. This

was, what has been portrait that day in thecampus of RCOEM. Marked with thepresence ofguest of honour Mr. SaleemKhan (Director of C Tell Solutions) and DrV.H Asudani (HOD of Humanity DepartmentRCOEM).Born visually impaired, Dr. V HAsudani is a perfect example who hasconverted a disability into opportunity withhis strong will power and dedication. He wasasked to inspire the participants with hismotivational words.

II. Brain Teaser

This was an event were the participatingteams were given witty questions andpuzzles to solve, with the social essence.The game was played on Computernetwork by all the teams. This was

basically a fun filled event whichwas enjoyed by all the

participating team members. The eventwas a huge success with more than 100teams participating.

III. Mega Blood DonationThesecond day glided by with the

successful organization of a MegaBlood Donation Camp, held incollaboration with ‘Dr HedgewarBlood Bank’ gaining a healthyresponse from the students andTeachers. They checked the bloodgroup of the donors, clearly telling them about their health condition.“We take the opportunity to thank him for his support andencouragement”, says the organizers of the event. Dr R S Pande,Principal of RCOEM and Dr S Dogra, NSS programme officer madegracious presence in the camp which started at 10 am and went up to 5pm. The programme received an overwhelming response from thedonors and the count was around 220.

IV. Health Check Up

On 18 Feb 2016, the NSS Unitof Shri Ramdeobaba College ofEngineering and Managementpays a visit to “Aajangaon”, 43Km from Nagpur. The NSS

volunteers along with the NSSprogram officer of RCOEM, Dr.S. Dogra reached the village at10:30 am and was presentthere till 5:30 pm.

Around 250 villagers took partin the event and gotbenefited.We was havingdentists and general physicianthat helped in our event andmade it a huge success.

V. Cleanliness Drive

This event was held in parallel with the health checkup.

Students of NSS unit took the initiative of cleaning the villagearea.During the visit NSS volunteers undertook a cleanliness drive thespate of activities in accordance to the nationwide Swachh BharatCleanliness Campaign. People were given handy tips to keep theirsurroundings and school clean. Volunteers enthusiastically took upbrooms and garbage bags to clean up every nook and corner of village.This cleanliness drive made students aware of the dignity of labour.

VII. QUAKERS

This is basically a fun event with thesocial essence to create a socialawareness within the participants.This event consist of various groupactivities, physical tasks and skateround etc. The event got a hugeparticipation of students of ourcollege and other colleges also, the

total count was around 400 people.The event creates an optimisticenvironment about the PRERNA 8.0in the campus.

VIII. Reflections

A simultaneous effort was madeon to uncover the creative sideof students by the Reflections,which was a Poster MakingCompetition on the theme of‘Humanity’. The students got anopportunity to showcase theirpainting skills, and bring out the

various facts of nature through theirkeen observation of the naturalsurroundings alive with their coloursstrokes.

Awareness program for water conservation

The NSS Unit of Shri Ramdeobaba college of Engineering and Management hadorganized an awareness program for the water conservation in the collegepremises .

The program was organized on 22 March. In the program around 15 NSSvolunteers along with the students from the Department of ManagementTechnology interacted with the people in college premises and in the class also tomake them aware about the need of water conservation and what can they do atan individual level. The volunteers cover all the departments of the college. Themain motto behind this awareness program was to create awareness and to makepeople realize that how water conservation is necessary, so that they can starttaking efforts in favor of this
