Social EveningIn the past few months the Social Evening has been very successful with maximum numbers of SKA members. Infact we are fully booked well in advance of the closing date. Clearly our community likes to get together on a regular basis to stay in touch and have a good time.

The Committee works very hard, not only on the day, but to prepare for the evening and on many other fronts. To help keep the Social Evening going we are making a polite request that when you do attend, we would appreciate your help to clear up afterwards; especially to clear away your items, and put the tables and chairs away.

thThe next Social Evening will be on 5 August … and happy to say it is again fully booked.

We are pleased to announce the AGM date has been set for Sunday 25 September 2016 at the new time of 4:30pm.

A full Agenda has been agreed by the Committee and is set out below. We look forward to a good attendance, as there are a number of interesting and important issues that need to be discussed. Date: Sunday 25 September 2016Venue: SKA HallTime: New time of 4.30pm onwards Agenda: 1. Approval of previous AGM Minutes 2. Approval of the Accounts for the year ended 31 March 2016 3. Re-Appointment of Auditors 4. Approve the following Resolution: ‘From and including Navrati 2016, SKA members shall be permitted to bring non-member friends from the wider Gujarati community to SKA Navrati. Non-member attendees shall be charged an entrance fee of £3.00 per person per day’ 5. Approve the following Resolution:‘In the event that no member of the Executive Committee is able to attend at the funeral of an SKA member, the Executive Committee may ask an SKA member to attend at that funeral and deliver a Eulogy on behalf of the Executive Committee’ 6. Any Other Business

Agenda item number 4 above is being proposed following the topic having been raised at previous years AGMs, and with a view to increasing attendance and participation at our annual Navrati events.

In respect of agenda item number 5, members will be aware that our community very sadly suffered a number of bereavements over a very short period of time earlier this year. The Executive Committee is committed to attending at the funerals of our members who have sadly passed away. Fortunately, to date, the Executive Committee has been able to achieve this. However, we are conscious that in the (hopefully rare and exceptional) case that a member of the Executive Committee is not able to attend for whatever reason, alternative arrangements should be made to recognise the achievements of members who have sadly passed away. Whilst this agenda item is being proposed with the best of intentions, we are aware that it is likely to be a very controversial topic. We therefore look forward to hearing your views at the upcoming AGM.

We encourage all our members, particularly the younger members of our community, to attend at this year’s AGM. This year’s high profile EU referendum has hopefully highlighted the importance of having your say. This extends beyond national decisions and also applies to our community. The AGM is your opportunity to share your views and have your voices heard by casting your votes!
