Agenda

What is “The Cloud?”

•  The Internet

•  Virtual Systems

•  Storage

•  An on-line Service

•  An Internal server farm

“Cloud”

•  When people say “cloud” they can mean anything! Most of the :me they just mean the servers are not on-premise

•  Companies have internal “clouds” as well

•  We need to understand what people mean. All of this is “Cloud”….

Decision

InfrastructureasaService

(3rdpartyhos0ng)SoawareasaService

•  Rent the Hardware

•  Own the Software, pay once

•  Rent the Hardware

•  Rent the Software, pay forever

Basic Cloud Decision

©2017,EricHelmerAllRightsReserved.

Cloud Types •  SaaS–(SoHwareasaService)-rentthesoBware

•  Salesforce.com model, customers do not buy licenses, rent the service for a :me by month – pay by user or usage.

•  No access to servers, pay for URL-only service

•  CapEx vs OpEx decision on so]ware licensing

•  i.e. PBCS, FCCS

•  IaaS(InfrastructureasaService)–rentthehardware

•  Customers OWN the licenses but have someone else host the servers and perhaps a Varity of IT managed services.

•  Full access to servers, only ren:ng the hardware, datacenter space, electricity, and paying for managed services.

•  Secure VPN – full extension of client network, looks as if on-site – client can manage or we can manage day to day

•  Up to customer to install, implement, manage so]ware

•  Ie: Amazon, MS Azure

•  ManagedPrivateCloud–fulloutsourcingofthesolu3on

•  Full IT service, administra:on, support with Oracle Experts on private infrastructure

•  i.e. Mercury Technology

©2017,EricHelmerAllRightsReserved.

Confusing the Numbers

•  Survey shows about an even split between those interested in SaaS and IaaS

•  Oracle’s “clouds”:

•  SaaS (PBCS)

•  Infrastructure as a Service

•  Plaaorm as a Service

•  Oracle Managed Cloud Service

•  Published numbers don’t say which cloud nor indicate who is actually using the cloud in produc:on.

Oracle’s SaaS today

•  Financial Close and Consolida:on Cloud Service (FCCS) This is NOT HFM

•  Enterprise Performance Repor:ng Cloud Service (EPRCS) This is not Financial Repor:ng

•  BI Cloud Service (BICS)

•  Account Reconsolida:on Cloud Service (ARCS)

•  Profitability Cost Management (PCMCS)

•  Tax Repor:ng Cloud

New:

•  Essbase cloud service – Oracle Analy:cal Cloud Service

The Vision

§  Any app, on-premise, hosted, or cloud, on any device

§  Offer mainstream EPM applica:ons with a flexible SaaS model

§  Compete with BI SaaS marketplace leaders targe:ng midmarket companies such as Adap:ve Planning and Host

Analy:cs

ü  Your Choice ü  All Supported

ü  All Strategic

Oracle Cloud under the covers

§  Mul:ple For:fied Oracle datacenters around the world

§  Mul:-tenant, servers and infrastructure are shared

§  Oracle Enterprise Linux based

©2017,EricHelmerAllRightsReserved.

Oracle’s SaaS Cloud

§  Benefits

-  Extraordinary rapid environment provisioning (implementa:on :me can be the same)

-  No hardware costs

-  No IT services needed

-  No so]ware installa:on, configura:on, or maintenance

-  OPEX Subscrip:on based

§  Key Features

-  Automa:c (and forced) patching

-  Flat File loads or use of on-premise so]ware to upload

-  U:lizes on-premise Smartview

-  Built in wizards, tutorials, guides, and task lists to create applica:ons

§  Oracle Cloud Support included (Not Oracle Support)

©2017,EricHelmerAllRightsReserved.

Oracle SaaS Considera:ons §  Usually only get one applica:on, two apps require two separate non-integrated subscrip:ons

§  Two environments (DEV and PROD)

§  Limited func:onality – a small frac:on of what is available on-prem

§  No access to servers, logs…. URL only based access

§  Data and metadata files must be uploaded via the web or through a command line FTP interface program that must be

downloaded from the cloud landing page. Flat file integra:on only w/o addi:onal on-prem so]ware.

§  Must commit to one hour of down:me each day

§  Limited Disk space

§  Extremely difficult to leave – if you want on-prem, you will have to buy the so]ware.

§  Not transferable

Newest features – code developed for cloud first, then ported

to on-premise versions..

Other Considera:ons

•  Current re-orgs of Oracle Sales push high pressure to sell SaaS and some:mes indicate Licensed so]ware cannot be sold anymore

•  Not true. Contact Oracle Digital: [email protected]

•  Even though new features are developed in the SaaS cloud first, we licensed customers are geing updates quicker than ever before in the form of Patch Set Updates

Think Bigger: Enterprise Cloud Solu:ons

•  We must think about the enterprise, not just Hyperion. Hyperion is just one piece of an overall corporate cloud strategy.

•  Hyperion is rarely the source system. Data needs to go in/out and be coordinated. Must think of all down-stream and up-stream systems as one unit when considering cloud and poten:ally outsource more than just Hyperion.

•  It’s ok to use different providers/solu:ons for each product area if it makes sense. However, consider how you are going to address overall management and integra:on.

•  Idea: Use one single en:ty to advise, handle, administer, maintain, coordinate all solu:ons. A Cloud provider of the cloud providers. Single solu:on provider for all maintenance, administra:on, support, etc. “Enterprise Solu:on as a Service”

•  Make “cloud” truly a fully outsourced set-it-and-forget-it model.
