The 9th China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair drew to a perfect close on 27th
February, 2009 after a 3-day run.
Pioneering trends of the global optical industry for 9 consecutive years has indeed been one of the most admirable achievements
of the Show. This year the gross exhibition area of more than 36,000 square metres saw another glorious achievement at
Shanghai Everbright Convention & Exhibition Centre as 700 exhibitors from 22 countries fully occupied the multi-storey East
Hall, West Hall, an outdoor hall of the Exhibition Centre and all the function rooms in the nearby Everbright International Hotel.
254 foreign exhibitors, whilst amounting to 36.3% of the total, made our Show truly international and countries such as Italy,
France and Japan continued to render our Show full support via establishing national pavilions.
The 9th China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair also proudly displayed a full range of the most elite items and famed brand
names in the industry, with 306 brands being genuinely global. The range of exhibits embraced the highly diversified
categories of spectacle frames & sunglasses, lenses, contact lens, visual test equipment, raw materials, accessories &
processing machinery. Technologically advanced materials blended impeccably with extravagant diamonds hinged on frames
to match outfits and accessories. Coupled with the trendiest design, a hint of romantic nostalgia also set the most sought after
and authoritative benchmark in relation to frames and sunglasses.
One of the major highlights of The 9th China (Shanghai) International Optics Fair was brand proliferation. This year 306
reputed global brands swamped our SIOF 09 and further reinstated our international status. In the realms of frames and
sunglasses, renowned brand names include ALAIN MIKLI, BVLGARI, CELINE, CERRUTI 1881, CHARRIOL, DOLCE &
GABBANA, DONNA KARAN, DUNHILL, ERMENEGILDO ZEGNA, ESCADA, FENDI, FERRARI, FRED, FURLA,
GIVENCHY, GOLD & WOOD, GUY LAROCHE, HENRY JULLIEN, JF REY, JEAN PAUL GAULTIER, LAFONT,
LINDBERG, MAJI MASATOMO, MASAKI MATSUSHIMA EYES, MERCEDES-BENZ, MINIMA, MOKUCHOU ROMAN,

AEROLITE, ARCHITECT, CALLIGRAPHY, KODAK LENS, MING YUE, NEXUS, NIKON, SEIKO and SUNACTIVES
joyfully joined our regular league of highly satisfied customers. With regard to contact lens, COOPER VISION, COLORS
NOUVEAU, EUROPA, EXOTICA, EYE PIA, FRESH KON, HYDRON, ISENS, NEO COSMO, NEW GREEN, PROMIR
AND VASSEN COLOR etc stole the limelight. Last but not least, world famed visual test equipment manufacturers like
CANON, CHAROPS, ESSILOR, GO, HOYA, MECCANOTTICA MAZZA, NIDEK, PICHINA, POTEC, SHIN-NIPPON,
TAKAGI, TOPCON, UNICOS and ZEISS etc added a perfect finishing touch to our Show.

Mainland Chinese exhibitors did not pale at all in this 3-day occasion. Local
famous brands exhibiting included PORPOISE, JINGGONG, YINGCHANG,
HONGCHEN and TIANHONG. As for Mainland Chinese participants who
already had gained worldwide recognition, E. SHADES, ELESE, FINCLE,
GALLUS, HICH, IGUANA, LENVY, PUSION and UNISEL caught the
attention of numerous buyers. Besides, the most successful and representative
Mainland Chinese enterprises engaged in eyewear processing were all present at

to Mainland Chinese manufacturers of visual test equipment, big boys such as
NINGBO MING SING OPTICAL, SHANGHAI JINGLIAN ENTERPRISE
DEVELOPMENT, SHANGHAI SUPORE INSTRUMENTS and XINYUAN
HIGH-TECH CENTER proudly showcased their state-of-the-art machinery. On
top of that, multi-national joint ventures like CHENGYI OPTICAL XIAMEN,
DAEJEON DAEMYUNG OPTICAL HANGZHOU, HANDA OPTICAL
SHANGHAI, HOYA LENS SHANGHAI, RORING INDUSTRIES XIAMEN, SHANGHAI CONANT OPTICAL,
SHANGHAI NOJIRI OPTICAL and XIAMEN GENSUN ENTERPRISE tried their utmost to outshine competitors.
Most important of all, SIOF 09 was not seriously affected by the recent financial crisis
at all. The number of visitors totaled 43,000, coming from 61 countries and regions.
All these manifest the very significant fact that good quality shows like ours “stay
strong” amidst international economic turmoil.
According to Chinese customs statistics, in year 2008 China’s export of eyeglasses
was valued at US$2.1 billion and that in turn represents a year–on–year growth rate of
13% as compared with 24% of 2007. As for 2008 Chinese imports of optical
products, they amounted to US$0.23 billion, pointing to a growth of 22.91% over
2007. While ascending import figure implies strong purchasing power, sustainable
export increase rates mandate that Mainland Chinese industrialists need to import more new machinery, materials and
technology in order to upkeep and improve their standard of production and hence stay
competitive. Besides, it is important to note that recently the Mainland Chinese
Government slashed import tariffs and issued purchase vouchers and all these have
substantially enhanced the purchasing power of her people and offered international
eyewear elites the perfect timing to tap this vast and highly lucrative market.
Undoubtedly, SIOF Shanghai and CIOF Beijing signify the Spring and Autumn
seasons respectively during which the best trading platforms capture the absolute
attention of eyewear entrepreneurs, buyers and manufacturers alike.
